1) The CnC3 zoom is normally way further back than that. He selected a campaign mission where you have a limited amount of infantry making it useless to zoom out more and thus it was restricted in that mission.
2) In CnC you have the minimap which makes it quite redundant to zoom out to that level.
3) CnC has a much smaller scope overall and the zoom level serves just fine in the CnC scope.
I'm not hating on SupCom I think the games are great but the video is biased and stupid...

I dunno man... I played a little multiplayer from C&C3 and I couldn't really get into it and actually I really was put off by the lack of zoom compared to Supcom.
But... I dropped out of Supcom later because... actually the game never worked.
(as in, large games kept de-syncing)
After being Supcom free for a few years... I was never bothered by the lack of zoom in Starcraft2! :)
Don't get me wrong, supreme commanded is no doubt an awesome and epic game and fun to play when you have plenty of time to play.
C&C, though, offers a more fast paced game play and on lower end machines still gives you a fun game. You need a beast of a machine to bring out the best of SupCom.

I love supreme commander, and when playing starcraft 2, I always get so frustrated when I can't zoom out! It helps so much when switching between micro and macro.

I don't know why I'd want to, but the instinct is there! I was playing some old WarCraft 3 a while ago, and I felt so blind, it was horrible. Even picking up the new Starcraft, in all my excitement I got 5 min into the game and was horrified realising that it of course, didn't have the zoom. T_T

@skrie yeah but when you are playing supreme commander with a computer that can run max graphics then you look at one of the tech 1 mech marines and you look at its simple architecture and you notice just how awesome it looks. the seraphim liquid metal look is still the best look i have seen for any machine army though.
C&C is really better for a person who has really been playing the RTS for a while, supcom is a great game for anyone, thanks to its mod friendly design. I think i have around 20 seperate mods

Yeah, this drove me crazy when I tried CnC after about 2 months of playing SupCom. It's one of those unique features of the game that everyone loves :D

the game did not lag but i couldn't control the commander at the end what ever i did it would not move a bit and a other time my colossus wouldn't move some glitchs in the game i guess on FA to . o and they made 3 mistakes in the first booklet page 27 air staging platform is Cybran for the UEF page 41 air staging platform is UEF for the CYbran and page42 T3 quantum gate is UEF for Cybran still this is the best RTS ever copy of TA

I agree. I loved all C&C games up to C&C3. I guess when you don't renew a concept for 10 years. Eventually someone will add something that will make the game cooler.

well i've never played dawn of war or sw empire at wars, not even sure if i've heard of them (probably have just can't bring a picture to mind) i've played LOTR, C&C, rise of nations, both supcoms, only FA installed though.. I dunno they all seem kind of same idea whoever has more units will have the clear advantage. Strategy comes second thats why i like supcom cause strategy is more like a 1.5 thing rather then second... I'll check out those two games. I like uniqueness! Unique lasts longer :P

SupCom has such ridiculous system requirements because it is potentially keeping track of and rendering thousands of objects and to scale noe less. plus the pysics engine is calculating the trajectory of every shot fired. In theory you can have 8 players with a thousand units each and piles and piles of recoverable wreckage. The sheer scale of the game is extremely demanding.
Starcraft 2 is cheap tactics, and...well seriously what is so special about the gameplay?
this has more than the strategic zoom you see in this video, it has a unique UI and command structure, Can you shift click on 3 or more buildings in starcraft, so your units will automaticly move onto the next with out you haveing to order them to? i dont know, but you can do that in C&C3, plus the fact that each shot, say someone shoots at someone, they miss and the bullet may hit the guy behind him

I got 100 bucks and I had a choice between RA3 and Supreme Commander: FA. I choose the latter and I'm not looking back.

Skrimish is ok but no way i can play campaign. So boring.
I think the game is not coded well because it needs to good hardware for this game. C&C 3 KW I can play almost with maxed graphics here must play almost on min graphics. Aldo units dont look so good in Supreme Commander. Most of the time they look boring. Oly big ones look cool.

CNC3 is retarded cheap ass tactics n shit. and Supcom didn't make WCG because its slightly slower paced. and it takes quite a while to do a skirmish. Pero esque C&C Tiberum Wars es solo gráficos. Supreme Commander ha sido totalmente revolucionario para la estrategia en tiempo real, creando las batallas de estilo futurista más grandes e impresionantes de todas. Tiberium Wars is a good game, i have it on xbox. But Supreme Commander is just a better game, with more units better factions and a story almost as good as TW. I say SupCom.
I don't played c&c3 yet, but i think it's good too. I have both supreme commander and forged alliance and i can say only that this is the best rts i ever played. But i will chek out C&C too.

I watch this vid so damn many times. Found on PP forums ofc but I'm sure many people here just stumbled on it. I honestly thnk you should do more piano pieces from games and put them up here, your supcom piece was quite possibly my favourite piano piece.
The zooming feature is good, skrie, because you can zoom all the way out to make the game look like the mini-map. But there are other reasons to like SupCom: epic music, multiple engineers and building assistance, naval factories (C&C3 sucks for not having navies), and character animation.
Supreme Commander is way better than Command and Conquer 3. I quit using C&C3 after I completed the campaign modes so I could play SupCom. There is no way I'm going to back to Tiberium Wars or Kane's Wrath.
that would be cool if they made 1 game for all the games ever created, and put all of supcom's and supcom: forged alliance's unit vs ALL the other units ever created in any game. supcom would at least have a 10% chance of winning. thats good....right!?

The first RTS games I played was Command and Conquer, and I have fond memories of Red Alert 2.
But Supreme Commander is C&C on crazy steroids.

That's sort of true. But there are different types of RTS. This is the ultimate grand scale RTS, with hundreds of units battling at once.
But then you have Dawn of War 1/2 where you are commanding at the most 12-14 squads and a few tanks but create massive carnage.
I only play RTS. I have all SW:Empire at Wars, both Supreme Commanders, both Company of Heroes.
But I like ALL of them. They are all different playing games and that's why I still play all of them.

I got 100 bucks and I had a choice between RA3 and Supreme Commander: FA. I choose the latter and I'm not looking back.
RA3 has annoying death noise sequences. But hey enjoy your fap session over your superior officers who somehow wear completely shameless outfits even though they're in the army.

Just played this game and got bored after some hours.
Skrimish is ok but no way i can play campaign. So boring.
I think the game is not coded well because it needs to good hardware for this game. C&C 3 KW I can play almost with maxed graphics here must play almost on min graphics. Aldo units dont look so good in Supreme Commander. Most of the time they look boring. Oly big ones look cool.
Also they move to fast for robod, just looks silly. :D

CNC3 is retarded cheap ass tactics n shit. and Supcom didn't make WCG because its slightly slower paced. and it takes quite a while to do a skirmish. But CNC is just, mass up mammoth tanks and rollover the bad guys. how the hell is that better?!? supcom=Massive kick ass battles, and the most inovative RTS ever created. Where as CNC3=Just another tank Rushing game with nothing special.

Pero esque C&C Tiberum Wars es solo gráficos. Supreme Commander ha sido totalmente revolucionario para la estrategia en tiempo real, creando las batallas de estilo futurista más grandes e impresionantes de todas. Este C&C no es ni siquiera uno de los mejores de la saga, es uno más y bastante soso. Simplemente no se pueden comparar porque Supreme Commander está muy por encima.

Tiberium Wars is a good game, i have it on xbox. But Supreme Commander is just a better game, with more units better factions and a story almost as good as TW. I say SupCom.

The zooming feature is good, skrie, because you can zoom all the way out to make the game look like the mini-map. But there are other reasons to like SupCom: epic music, multiple engineers and building assistance, naval factories (C&C3 sucks for not having navies), and character animation.

Supreme Commander is way better than Command and Conquer 3. I quit using C&C3 after I completed the campaign modes so I could play SupCom. There is no way I'm going to back to Tiberium Wars or Kane's Wrath.
