  • Everytime i watch this episode i always end up sobbing. And i cry even harder when o see this part in which sherlock is watching john. I have trirmed greatly to contain myself from screaming at sherlock. "OH MY GAWD WHY CANT YOU JUST YELL OUT TO HIM GOF DAMN IT GO LIVE ON YOUR OWN ISLAND WITH HIM GAAWWDD TELL HIM YOURE ALIVe!!" you guys, if they dont reunite in the first season im going to pull a moriarty AND a sherlock. Hmph.

  • i was crying when i saw this.. it just hurts so much, to lose someone you love.

  • MARTIN, YOU ARE AMAZING. Poor John- he has to live on, depressed, without the man who made his life change completely. In the Empty House, the book after Reichenbach, John fainst when he sees Sherlock.

  • ALL THE FEELINGS

  • Sherlock disliked this, because he doesn't like seeing John sad.

  • MASSIVE MIND FUCK

  • 15 seconds, then I cried. <3

  • BAFTAs should create a "Best Scene of the Year" category. This moment will win hands down.

  • YES

  • SHERLOCK IS THE CLEVEREST MAN EVER!!!!??

  • SERIES THREE BETTER GET A MOVE ON OR ELSE JOHN IS GONNA DO SOMETHING STUPID!!!!!!

  • @AnimeGirl623 Like move to Shire and go on a quest for a magical ring?

  • I loved when John got emotional there. It showed that he had doubt about Sherlock dieing. I just hated to see him like that. I was sad when I saw the head stone. The BIGGEST smile broke out onto my face when I saw Sherlock their looking at John. Cant wait for the new episodes!

  • my face spread into a huge smile at the end. even though i was still crying, i thought just how john would react after finding out he was alive. he would probobly go find him... and choke him :D

  • Is that a BAFTA I smell...?

  • Obviously for John it's going to suck for the next few years, I have to wonder what toll their separation will take on Sherlock though.

  • I think what got me with this scene was the utterly flawless way that Freeman made his voice break.

  • I must admit, I cried more when I saw Sherlock was alive than the actual fall, I just thought "HES ALIVE I MUST CRY." :P

  • So, just to summarise:

John has lost the one thing that pulled him out of what was basically a sleepwalking existence, and sure, he's nearly been blown up and killed several times, but in the end, he's left without his friend, and thus without much of a life at all.

And Sherlock's lost his home, his friends, his ability to solve cases, which is really what keeps him sane, or as sane as he can get....pretty much everything.

So they've both pretty much lost it all.

    DAMMIT SHOW.

    *Goes full banshee*

  • @willkillyoulast But wait, there's supposed to be another season - the third was commissioned the same time as the second.... and besides, this series is just too good to end like this! T-T

  • @pegasusdreams1 I know, I know, but until we see Season 3...this is all I'll be able to think aboutin relation to Sherlock. Along with how much I LOVE the show, yes, but still...alas, there is more to come! :-)

  • @Zsuzsi2: Just search for "John Watson Blog" on YT, there can all videos from the blog be found! The last one you mean is the news broadcast

  • Okay, I didn't cry during this scene. But I had this awful, numbing pain in my chest that stayed there all day long. Their reunion is going to make me cry, though...lots of punching and hugging. Oh yes. BBC HURRY UP WITH SERIES 3 IF YOU WOULD AND GET IT TO AMERICA NOW

  • There's a video on John's blog (in the last post 'Untilted'), but I can't play it. Please someone help me find it on youtube if it is possible! Thanks!

  • I love how Sherlock actually did do what John wanted, Don't be dead

  • I kept thinking Sherlock was hiding behind the tree and that he would pop out and scare John or that he would dig his way out of his own grave. But him off in the distance sulking is good too.

  • @KatieohsoRaNdOm That's right, think big :-P

  • @NevermoreIsEvermore John is even calling Sherlock Spock in "The Hounds of Baskerville"!

  • i dont think sherlock knew how much of a friend he has in john or how to handle it

  • MAUFET

  • God, I hope they have another fistfight when John finds out. I love fistfights.

  • Just before that, there's this scene when John's therapist asks him, "There are things that you wanted to say - say it now", and John says he can't.

At first I thought that he couldn't say the words, "Sherlock is dead", but he's saying them right at the episode's intro.

Maybe what he can't say are the words that a big part of the fanfom is waiting for? :)

  • To reference Frankenstein, in honour of Benny Cumberbatch's performance...

    "HE'S... ALIIVE!!!!!"

I bet Sherlock's bugged his gravestone so he can listen to everyone that visits him.

(And as much as I love Sherlock, I hope John punches him for doing this. And making us all wait a year to conclusively find out how the hell he did it.)

  • Oh, Sherlock, you complete arse.

  • i wonder how sherlock reacted to what John said. Since he now (and probably always) he knows what John thought of him

  • John and sherlock = kirk and spok.....anybody else getting this?!?!

  • Most emoional scene for me, I really had to cry :´(

John is so sad, so Sherlock, GET YOUR ASS UP AND SHOW HIM YOU´RE ALIVE!

    Please?

  • I watched it like 4 times. Each time I cried really quickly, then stopped, then watched it again and started crying again. >_< Stop being dead Sherlock, I love you.

  • It took me about two seconds to burst out crying. Arrgh, I'm such a cry baby. This is terrible. ;_;

Please Sherlock, stop being dead. For John? *sniffle* I'm not crying. I dunno what you're talking about. But anyway, please?

  • So many tears.

  • I think Sherlock is actually really quite guilty and sad, just doesnt show it. If you look at his eyes, they r quite emotional. Still, can't w8 for when John faints!! :D itll be so cute!

howevs, I have heard in the loop that John punches Sherlock in the face when he wakes up. Unfortunately, I find that more likely.

  • Could you please upload the scene, where Moriarty tries to steal the crown jewels?! I love this scene!

  • Sherlock doesn't seem sad at all, he looks like " Well this was all planned, too bad John is so sad, he'll be mad at me when he finds out I tricked him same way as with the baskerville hound"

  • @Aikafly My thoughts exactly. Sherlock doesn't show emotion even if he does feel them. That is what I think is the "out of character" bit that Gatiss is talking about, the fact that he showed emotion only on the rooftop. Rhododendron Ponticum side effects possibly?

  • @eryberrie Rhodendron Ponticum is the poison from Baskerville, right?

Doubt it could be its side effects because if you look at John's blog, he is writing about the Baskerville case the 16th march and about the death of Sherlock 16th June. I don't think it would last a couple of months before the effects of the poison would appear? But you got a point in Sherlock only showing emotion at the rooftop.

  • @Aikafly Not sure if RP was the Baskerville drug. It was a name of a flower that Sherlock mentions to John when he is trying to find the disused sweet factory. Sherlock could have administered the poison to himself on the rooftop.

  • OH MY GOD, WAS THIS IN THE ACTUAL EPISODE?? Where did you get the footage??!!

    Man, this BROKE me

  • @RoziBadgerNinja24842 If you want to, I can send you a link for the episode. I saw them on the internet too (being the only person in my country who knows about this show). I'm not spaming or anything, I just want to help.

  • The look on Sherlock's face... oh god, that killed me. You can just tell how much it's hurting Sherlock to watch John say those things at his grave, to hear John literally begging Sherlock not to be dead, and not being able to comfort him in some way.

  • Comment removed

  • Expectations for the reunion:

    Hugging

    Punch

    Crying

    Ultimate Bromance

  • Everybody knows that after Watson fainted and woke up again, he punched Sherlock in the face. I would like to see them do this in the RDJ version, too!

  • I very much doubt that the next time John sees Sherlock he'll avoid his nose and teeth again. :P

  • OMG I was going into hysterical mode, I was crying soooooooo much........Uh Oh here I go again *sob*sob*sob!!!!!!

  • dus it look 2 any1 else @ the end that sherlock is about 2 cry?

  • HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO WAIT FOR SEASON 3 AFTER THIS!?!?!?!?

    T_T

  • this is the first time I've almost cried watching a tv show

  • When i saw sherlock the first time. I watched this, i went into hysterics. Laughing cuz hes alive and i knew it all along, crying cuz its so damn tragic, swearing at sherlock for being such a dick for making john cry, and loving that sherlock knows what he did kils john and feeling visibly terrible for it (even if it was to save him)

  • he's used to listening to john. 'stop it. just stop it.' and so he did.

  • If I was pretending to be dead, I would hang around by my grave too. Just to see who cares about me.

  • @TheNeiraaa If I was pretending to be dead, I would do that-then haunt those who dont come.

    Person: AAAARGHHH

Me: Y U NO VISIT ME??

  • I don't care how he did it or how he's going to reveal his survival...

I just want him to tell John that he's OK :'(

  • you know who I want to talk to? Mrs. Holmes. I mean who's their mother anyway? Who raised these two super-intelligent boys so that they didn't know affection and were seemingly unable to feel compassion for anyone? Is there back story of that in the books at all?

  • @hereverydayadventure I reckon they are dead, but I have a tiny, random, unexplained hunch that Sherlock was adopted and Mycroft is related. Just a hunch

  • When Sherlock jumped, I cried, but when John says "Don't... be dead," I wailed.

  • Doesn't matter how many times I watch this. I cry when I hear John's monologue and I get goosebumps when the music starts and we see Sherlock.

  • If they make the episode where Sherlock reveals himself to John anything like "Empty House" it's going to be funny as hell! Although I've got the feeling that John'll probably punch him at some point!

  • I didn't cry at Sherlocks suicide, but here I cried, a lot. For a short time, but I cried. This moment, is so wonderful <3

And! This series made me cry! Another reason to just love it so much as I do :)

  • I had managed to stop crying for a few hours and now the tears are coming back.....

  • Something i love about this scene is the larger than life trust that Watson has in Sherlock. He doesnt really understand HOW Sherlock could survive. But he has trust that Sherlock can survive.

  • Anyone else notice John looks like he is limping a little bit again as he walks away? Poor John Sherlock was the one that mad him get over that limp and now without him it returns...

  • Look at how sad Sherlock looks when he's watching John, I know he probably won't admit it to John, but he is just as heart broken as John is.

  • @Salaxxxxx That's what broke me. John's sadness was depressing, but that look on Sherlock's face says it all. I swear, you can see in his eyes how much he wants to run over to his friend and let him know he's okay, but then you see his sadness when he knows he can't. So incredibly heartbreaking...

  • When is season three coming? This show is an addiction!

  • @Hey93Jude isn't it? :) they haven't released a date yet. the co-creators like to keep us on tenterhooks. it may not be until 2013, though. martin freeman is busy being frodo and benedict cumberbatch is busy being smaug the dragon for 'the hobbit.' :) :)

  • @bluebanshee3 Oh man really!?!?! I do love 'The Hobbit' and can't wait for the movie, but COME ON! I have to have my fill of Sherlock and John.

  • @Hey93Jude it's just speculation. who knows? but really, three minutes is a long wait imo :D. that's why i re-watch episodes and have become addicted to fan videos :D. so happy that these are here.

  • @Hey93Jude oops---i meant bilbo baggins!

  • Sherlock. Prepare your cheekbones.

  • I am crying again. I will never get over how John's voice broke when he said "dead".

  • I really can't wait for John's and Sherlock's reunion!!

  • I wanna hug John to bits. :*(

  • and then- years of silence.

  • ...Please excuse me as my heart shatters into about ten thousand tiny pieces.

If anyone needs me, I'll be curled in a ball crying myself into dehydration. Bye.

  • Don't cry, don't cry.

His voice breaks as he says dead.

:'(!!! I can't stop!! How...Steven Moffet is a genius who I'm annoyed at for doing this!!!

  • I don't think John will take it well that his best friend did this to him, but I would love it if when they reconcile they have a hug. Sherlock and John aren't gay but they're sort of soul mates.

  • @eryberrie Gah, thank you! I don't think they're gay, either, but I'm pretty sure that, British though they may be, there's going to be a bit of hugging on both sides when they're finally reunited. If John doesn't murder Sherlock himself... :D

  • @PrincessAnya91 Or punching from John's side and THEN hugging.

  • @FinTantei That too. John might have another "bad day."

  • @eryberrie If it stays true to the book, he'll be all sorts of pissed but he'll get over it. Also, don't be so sure that they aren't gay. Doyle never said anything to the contrary and it would be sort of adorable if they wound up together.

  • @KiltAllen if it stays true to books, after his wife dies sherlock will secretly buy his new home from him with a better that expected selling price under a fake identity so that Watson will have no excuse not to move back in with him. seriously. The Adventure of the Norwood Builder.

  • @eryberrie

I imagen John giving him a good punch in the face and then give him the most loving hug in history and then realize how gay it looks and back off akwardly "ahumh...glad you'r back..."

    XD

  • @TindraSan Yeah, so many people have said that a punch is on the cards, Gatiss and Moffat if you are reading, we need a punch and a hug - in that order!

  • Season three can NOT come fast enough.

  • awwww... poor John! Shame on you Sherlock, fooling your friends and family that your dead!!

Grrr... if I EVER wouldmeat you I would kill you anyway!

Btw you're a great person even tho you're mean now.

  • Why do you think Sherlock is watching John at his grave? Do you think it was to make sure John was 'okay'? Because surely it would have hurt Sherlock watching John cry over his grave like that :'(

  • @Eriks0Angel I think Sherlock is there because he figures if John has to suffer the pain of Sherlock's "death" then Sherlock should suffer John's pain. It's Sherlock's punishment for what he did to his friend.

  • @Eriks0Angel He was absolutely checking up on John. Partly to make sure John believed in his death, but yeah, he was checking up on him.

  • this made me cry zo hard when I saw it in the episode. I actually yelled to the screen: GO TELL HIM YOU'RE ALIVE! HE'S CRYING, DAMN IT!!

  • There are all sorts of interesting ideas in the original stories that were just touched on and I had always wished could be dealt with in much more depth in movies, and in this series my wishes are being fulfilled. This is so satisfying!!!

  • THIS SO MANY EMOTIONS....

  • WAIT! Hope! I KNEW IT!

  • I have never been so releived to see that culy haird collar-done-up-so-he-looks-cool-with-his-cheekbones bloke in my life, as soon as i saw him i was like..ahhhhhhh, i can breath again.

  • i wonder if the new series will begin straight after this moment, with sherlock revealing that he is still alive to john, or whether it will begin a while after with john already knowing...the first option will be better in my opinion

  • @reduolf If they stay true to canon in spirit, which they've done so far, then we'll see Sherlock surprise John with an "I'm alive" moment. And John's reaction should be priceless. Wonder if they'll stick to canon for that one. ;) They've done it so far, even to having Holmes watch as Watson mourns his death...

  • To be continued in the SUMMER of 2013...

  • @WinterWhisper ohhhh so long to wait :(

  • @reduolf Americans have too wait that long. Series 3 will be in January 2013. At least that is what I heard.

  • @ladykira58 All I've heard is they HOPE to film later this year, anything else on that? Is Jan 2013 a definite goal?

  • @kamwrites Part of Reichenbach Fall part 2 is already filmed. At least thats what it says on wikipedia. I honestly dont know if jan 2013 is a definite goal but I certainly hope so.

  • @WinterWhisper Has this been confirmed?

  • I think the book reunion is great, and I'd have no problem with it, but this John seems like the kind of guy who would punch Sherlock immediately after he came to. Or before. Whichever is funnier.

  • @skatinanwaitin that was my first thought. whenever he's gonna see that Sherlock is not dead, he's going to break his nose or something, because he fooled him like that.

  • @daffodil977 I completely agree! The book reuinion would be so perfect!

  • It kills me that if you watch John as he walks away, he starts limping again, just like he used to before he and Sherlock became friends.

  • @Moneneko you just made it even worse for me... fuck, this is hard to stand!

  • In the story "Adventure of the Empty House" which is when Sherlock reveals himself to be alive to John in the books, John faints. I think this would be not only fantastically cute in Series 3 but true to the stories and realistic.

GATISS IF YOU'RE READING THIS PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN.

  • @daffodil977 NO John should look at him and just stare then Sherlock will try to say something and then John will punch him in the face. Cut to opening credits.

  • @daffodil977

    ALSO SEBASTAN MORAN

  • Was I the only one fixating on Sherlocks scarf when the camera turned around?

  • The only reason I was sad when Sherlock died is because Watson was sad too.

    I'm a bad fangirl :/

  • Sherlock is a realy bad hider, not behind a tree or half next to a tree,

Noo Sherlock know´s best, in FRONT of a tree! or by the way not even that! just a five metres of his one ´grave´ xD

  • am i the only one to consider that maybe the sherlock we're seeing is actually a ghost?

lame, i know, and it's not that i want him to be dead, but of all the theories i've read, no ones said that one, so just putting it out there...let the retorts begin...XI

  • @bookmaniac2013 I'd say I agree with you if there isn't a third season, I'd accept that...

But, since there will be a season three, we can assume he's not a ghost. XP (Although, I do know that in the original books that the author originally intended for him to stay dead...but his fans wanted more...so he wrote more.)

  • When I saw this episode and the scee when john says don't be dead I cried. Tears were raining on my face. But whe the camera slided to Sherlock's face I was like OMG ,WTF and I KNEW THAT EPISODE CAN'T END LIKE THAT at the same time. But even now when I know that Sherlock is alive I cry every time I see his jump or this scene. :'(

  • @iamverysherlocked I literally had the exact same reaction! I was just kind of tearing up for first part, but then he said don't be dead, and I lost it.

  • When John's voice breaks on the word dead.

    Fuck

    no.

Mamas coming after you Sherlock. Mamas. Coming.

  • Has anyone else noticed the mark on Sherlock's neck at 00.26 ? What do you think it is?

  • @6xxOliviaxx6 its a birthmark you idiot

  • @ThatMysteriousGuy2 oh right, thanks! just thought it might have been that little clue we'd all missed, I guess not!

  • Don't know bout you but I can't wait to see the way Sherlock comes back to John

  • I think that when John was pushed down by the biker he was gassed by the same chemical for "The Hounds of Baskerville" that he and Sherlock uncover. John hallucinates the blood, and the spectators where Sherlock's hooligans he hires for intelligence on the streets. Sherlock's "dead" body is whisked away and given to Molly and Moriarty may be in Sherlock's grave instead. There is also no continuos shot during Sherlock's fall, making it even more possible that he was on a wire of some sort.

  • I laughed during Marley and Me and the Titanic. I didn't tear up in Wall-E, Up or Toy Story 3. But this had me blubbering like an infant.

  • I was yelling "NO NO NO NO NO!!!" All through his suicide scene. Then I was crying like a baby through the funeral. Then when he was standing there as John walked away I was like "I knew it! YOU SON OF A BITCH!"

  • @geofferychaucer I KNOW RIGHT! That was the first time in my entire life (which isn't that long) that i felt that much emotion.

  • "One more miracle for me, Sherlock... Don't...Be...*voice cracks* dead! Would you p- Just for me, just stop it..."

Oh GOD this makes me wanna cry again for like hours ))):

  • This is impecable acting! I was blown away by the transparency of his grief. Outstanding performance, really.

  • Am I the only one who can hear Morgan Freeman narrating as the camera circles Sherlock's face at the end? You know, something like "It was then that Sherlock truly realized, after all his years in solitary comfort and painful numbness, how much John had changed him, for he was now able to perform a strange feat against his will - that he could feel more than he could be bothered to feel; that he felt, by some bitter miracle, exactly as his best friend did...."

  • @Procrastina777 Well, I didn't before, but now I can't not hear it when I rewatched (and again and again). Can't shake it out of my head, and it is AWESOME!

Thank you for your great imagination

  • The fact that we knew he was still alive doesn't make it easier to watch it. I really cried a lot... it was devastating to see John's reaction and how lonely he became without Sherlock. Just like he was before Sherlock. >': Benny and Martin = A++

  • even though i have access to these episodes I just can't watch them. The emotions in these clips is just to much for me to even think about getting 90 minutes of it

  • why are you able to upload only around 30 seconds? thats strange for youtube. i thought the time limit was between 10 & 13 minutes?

  • welp. i just creyed all my creys and then my creys creyed creys and then i drowned.

  • I feel kind of heartless for not actually crying when Sherlock "died," but I guess it was because I knew he would find a way out of it

  • I think Sherlock used the same trick to fake his dead that Moriarty had used to deceive the kids (they are scare from Sherlock).

  • I cried like a baby when john said "dont be dead"

  • Sherlock looks like he's about to cry.

  • jesus this has to be the best thing the bbc have done in a long time. both of them are amazing as sherlock and watson. i think this is better than the films!!!!!!! cant wait for the 3rd season.

  • @thebearbaiter1 Hmmm...I grew up with Jeremy Brett, so he's my Holmes. ;) But Benedict is plain awesome. I adore what they've done with this series, and it's so fun to catch all the references. Modern day perfection.

  • I didn't cry until he said "don't be dead", after that I cried like a baby and then they showed Sherlock and was like "WHAT?!!"

  • SDFRGTHFJYGKHJBHVCFGXDDMFJVG *flails* THE ENDING

  • Will this ever stop being sad? Even though we know he's still alive, both characters went through the ringer in this episode.

However, I firmly believe Moriarty's still alive. Sure, two supposed deaths and subsequent 'resurrections' might be too much, but we know for sure something will have to make Sherlock reveal his very-much-alive self when the show returns, and what else WOULD bring him out bur Moriarty? I just wonder what it is Moriarty will do? I love watching evil clever people scheming.

  • threE YEARS NO WHY TIGEHEDJBA

  • The way Martin said "dead" feels like he doesn't even want to say that word out for he refuses to believe, so sad...;(

  • Stay calm and believe in Sherlock. Thumbs Up!!!

  • @MsSherLocked Probably, when John finds out Sherlock faked his dead, he's gonna punch him half to death because he fooled him. At least, that's what I think he'd do. :)

  • How the hell did he survive ?!

  • In Sherlock Holmes we trust.

  • @viikidavikingful Don't worry. I won't hurt him...much;) I still love him of course<3 I mean seriously I don't think I can ever really punch those lovely cheekbones8D

  • I love how Benedict has a way of showing all the emotions Sherlock is feeling without saying a word or even changing his expression too much. You see him in this scene and you know that he's hurting for John, even though his face is as stoic as ever. He sort of looks away at the end, and the fact that he's even there watching John...

And Martin. Oh my god, Martin. He is absolutely perfect in this scene. That's all I can say about him.

These two, and their chemistry, are perfect. This show. <3

  • poor John TT_TT... he looked like he started limping just a little bit again

  • The most heart-wrenching thing about this is that John knows, somewhere deep inside, that Sherlock isn't dead, but everyone and everything is telling him that he is. So he's pretty much begging Sherlock to tell him he's not crazy, to show him that he's alive and put him back together. He's asking Sherlock for something he doesn't even know is possible simply because he can't handle the alternative, which is living without Sherlock. And Sherlock has to sit there and listen to that.

    My heart.</3

  • Sherlock Holmes can never die...FACT!

  • Will you do that just for me?

If I was Sherlock I would jump out and shout "Of course!" <3

  • The way he says dead the first time literally broke my heart.

  • *screams like a little girl for good hour DEAR GOOOOD OMFGSDLGFUSDOFUSGPVSOJLDZKVM NO WORDS CAN FUCKIN DESCRIBE THE FEELING I HAVE RIGHT NOW

  • I love the music when it shows Sherlock's face again :D Uggh! SO good!
