  • Emily's part never fails to make me cry.

  • 2:57 Emily's part always give me goosebumps. God these guys are brilliant.

  • The lines from Emily of "This city needs you now," is one that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Exceeded, barely, by "I still have work to do." Manly tears will be shed.

  • # What I love about this song is that as light stands under a collapsing building he welcomes death knowing he will be with his love again. As his last act on earth he finally has the courage read Emily's letter. From beyond the grave she pleads with him to stay and help the same city that wanted to kill him. The selflessness of his decision is staggering.

Also, you haven't truly listened to this song until you hear it through good speakers on max volume...the vibrations will change you.

  • What I love about this song is that, even after Emily and Joe were killed, Light still has the will to go on. THAT is a true hero.

  • and i thought Megaman had no plot :D

  • this is what capcom needs to make a live cgi megaman movie using effect from iron man and mix it with megaman and lucas arts and for the story use the story and music fron the protomen.

  • @powerofblack No! Just use this as the story and make it a musical.

  • Joe, when you see Emily, tell her to wait for me.

Because I still have work to do.

  • I just spent the last couple of hours listening to this story: Beautiful!

  • There's a good story behind this album. Take notes, Capcom. It might do you good for a desperately needed Megaman reboot.

  • is it supposed to sound shitty at the end

  • @ilovemuffins1337 Yes. They're seguing into the sound of the first album, since it comes after this one, story-wise. The first album sounds much less polished.

  • @ValkamToo I also see the use of a less polished aspect to show the aspect of Light's fraying mental state. He just sent a man to his death, Light's own death, and helped to enslave an entire society. So now he will go and fight back in the last way he can. By making another man and then sending him to kill. He see's this, he knows it must happen, and he hates it.

  • The one dislike was from Dr. WIly

  • @Megamildman oh god three dislikes... It's Gutsman...and Cutman

  • "I still have work to do..."

    Chills up my spine.

  • omg i wanna make a comic and have this be the best part

  • @Xethcher Do it if you can please.this stroy is amazing =)

  • @mgs29 i already did the first album but its really hard to get in the drawing mood

  • Very very few other songs can bring a shiver down my spine, especially few that can do it three times in one song.

Almost makes you tear up at the beauty and power this holds.

  • @Wanghealer I'm fascinated with your clearly "educated" opinion. What exact aspect(s) of this song do you find so dreadful?

  • @Terredia Too much awesome vocals and story telling perhaps?

  • @UnusualNumber Ha, yeah, maybe he just couldn't take it. (I'm saying that in a sarcastic/serious tone, actually.) Though, I'm just trying to honestly see if healer here has a roughly 'fair' reason.

If not, well, sucks to be him/her. A humiliated troll is a sad thing to be, more so then a normal one.

  • @Wanghealer u suck

  • @Wanghealer It seems that you like Rebecca Black.

  • Bought both albums, listened from start to finish, mind absolutely blown.

  • fucking awesome!!!

  • and then i exploded

  • I think I jizzed my pants.

  • can we form a posse and hunt down the one dislike? come on..

  • @cal5086 im in dude

  • Joe. When you see Emily... Tell her to wait for me. Cause I still have epic rocking to do!

  • I love how the end gets dirtier and more distorted, like the style of the first album... the transition into that world.

  • @MrChenrezi Haha, I love how you also noticed that. You probably also noticed when the instruments of the old city turned into the synths of the new city in How The World Fell Under Darkness, too, yea? You, my friend, are awesome. Just wanted to let you know that. *hifives*

  • i like to robot it the background

    xDD

  • Jesus, I just realized how much Emily's letter implies that she knew she was going to die... ;_;

  • Her vocals are SO. FUCKING. GOOD.

  • From what I gather the first album is about the birth of Megaman and his fight with Protoman. I'm guessing this album takes place before the first album? If so holy hell, The Protomen have once again outdone themselves. Hoepfully Act 3 will be about Megaman's decision to save humanity. After all like Joe, hope rides alone...

  • @RMD00

It's the prequel, yes. It's the Rise of Dr. Willy and how Light reacted.

  • Damn this song is amazing! I especially love when Emily starts singing. Gives me goosebumps every time. <3

  • I know I know people will tell me this is obvious...but I love how the little piano tune during Emily's song, is exactly the same as the scratchy acoustic guitar in "Hope Rides Alone." Anybody else get this?

  • Joe fell from a height most men never reach :(

  • I can't help but wonder what "the arm" is supposed to represent. Is it the dismembered arm of Joe? The metal arm that held up the big screen? Or the arm of Wily's new martial law?

  • @MrProminance1 I see three big meanings of "the arm."

The first uses the train symbolism Light is using. When the arm that stops cars from moving into train tracks comes down, that's it, the train is here. "Here comes the arm" could mean that the final moments are coming.

The second is the long arm of the law. Specifically, Wily's arm. The arm of the law is coming to finish what it started.

Finally, a bit of foreshadowing. "The arm" of Protoman's Arm Cannon.

    Choose your meaning.

  • @HayateKusanagi

I kind of like to see it as light talking of his own arm after he finds Emily's note in his coat and lifts it to his face to read it, dreading the contents of it. I know its very unlikely but just something I like to imagine.

  • @HayateKusanagi gets it.

  • Anyone else notice that the "Protomen" lettering kind of looks like the "Tron" lettering?

  • @Sopraltofilms I think that's the Idea, this is supposed to be retro oriented. So it looks and sounds like something that came out of the '80s

  • RIP Joe. You are a hero among men. Never will your sacrifice go in vain.

  • The Hounds or Here Comes The Arm. Discuss?

  • @LeeDonbo Can I choose both?

  • It's really awesome listening to these guys, hearing them only through their completely epic music, and then meeting them. They're all really nice, cool people that you could casually chat to as well as admire.

  • It's 4:10 pm...

I still have work to do

  • At least Joe never had to see the arm...

At least he died the last hero left in man...

  • 1 person doesn't still have work to do.

  • At the end, it begins to take on some of the synth elements of Act 1. Nice little touch, in my opinion.

  • Jesus.

    CHRIST.

How can ANYTHING be this epic????

  • Whenever they start belting "This City" I forget for a moment that this isn't a broadway show. Chilling. I love it.

  • @authressintraining Hi there ;D

    I must concur.

  • @authressintraining and it TOTALLY FUCKING SHOULD BE

  • @flaco3188 Well no shit

  • Album starts so strong and goes downhill after the hounds... disappointing. At least it gets sort of optimistic again here at the end.

  • @youmayfindithere Wait, are you talking about the storyline or the actual music?

  • @Dojack Both- the heavy synthesizer and darker tone go hand in hand thematically. I just prefer the first part of the album, really.

  • I have brought Protomen to my friends here. It's annoying. I have act I and II physical copies. I've only held them for about a day. The discs have been circulating everywhere and I just want it back someday XD

  • This is not the world my father knew...

  • This music, plus the lyrics, plus the cover-art for the album depicted in the video equals... a wicked combination between Mega Man and Watchmen.

  • Songs damn good.

  • Tony stark ain't got shit on TOMAS LIGHT

  • This wasnt nearly as good as i was lead to believe :/

  • @TranceWulf Depends on your tastes in music.

  • @Mirithonomy Well i saw all this hype for this band flaotin around and i was disappointed, thats all lol

  • This might sound goofy, but I actually cried.

I'm not trolling, shitting you, or pretending. I literally cried. Not just during this song too. Four times over the course of two albums. Fuck me, I feel like a pansy.

  • @xxDoesitmatterxx It's because you cried for me as well...*manly tears well up, but are suppressed*

  • im buyin it

  • I love the way it gets all grungy at the end, transitioning into the darker distorted theme of the first album. This music really is amazing, and I hope people don't discount it as only for videogame nerds. I've never even played a Megaman game, but I can't wait for Act III

  • This should be a f*cking play; would give me a reason to go to Broadway.

  • 0 Dislikes. Fuck yeah!

  • Chills. Every time.

  • I need a phisical copy of this album, not an iTunes buy...

  • Goosebumps! This song and Emilys "There will be light" in the Father of Death give me chills every time i hear it. Great album. Best of the C21st.

Please, bring the fight to the UK!!

  • One of the few bands I would see live. Come to Winnipeg! In Canada!

  • @pantscheese

But only three or four people and a lame dog live in Winnipeg.

Some maps don't even have it!

    ;D

    lol jk

    you Canucks need music too!

  • Went to see them in New Orleans. Brilliant show, great crowd! The Protomen are part of something bigger than themselves and you can feel it just being at a show.

  • THE CITY NEEDS YOU NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!

  • Think the best part of this song is how it slowly changes into the sound of Act 1. Back where it all began.

  • I love how it's like the hero is PROTOMAN, the next is MEGAMAN... And then there's Joe lol

  • @panda1234567891 I like how in the beginning the hero is an 'average' Joe, then it's a 'proto' man, and finally it's a 'mega' man ;)

  • true that man, just bought both albums yesterday. can't wait to listen to them. also, I'm planning to to a duette with someone with this song on blogtv.

  • I've been meaning to buy the Protomens ablums for a while now, but after listening to this track I finally got around to buying it off of amazon. Simply brilliant.

    Wish I'd done it earlier.

  • Can someone explain to me what here comes the arm means? I don't get it when he sings it in the song..

  • @CrossTruth ...of the law.

  • @CrossTruth The way I see it, its like a fist being pulled back ready to punch someone. The fist is Wily's, and the person getting punched is humanity. Only Light can see that their shit is about to get fucked up.

  • @CrossTruth I think it serves two purposes. 1, the long arm of the law. Since Wily is the law now, it ain't gonna be pretty. 2, foreshadowing. Just add cannon after arm and you'll see what I mean.

  • I think The Protomen would make a great play, especially this song.

    It's the perfect ending.

There's the sort of bookends, with this like an 80's version of The State VS Thomas Light,

the whole build-up in the song,

After the letter all the actors would come out and sing,

    the one line ending,

and that's how most plays work, right?

And this new player is weird,it keeps moving when I don't want it to...

  • Not gonna lie... When Emily's voice started reading out the letter, I got a tingle in my spine...

  • The story The Protomen follow is totally different than the story in Megaman. Really the only main similarity is the names and very basics of the characters. In this Joe was a citizen of the city that saw through the hidden dictatorship that Wily had set up. Sniper was a green robot with a single eye (looks like Sniper Joe from the games) that Light built and Wily stole and used to kill Emily (Light's lover). Joe wore Sniper's armor and became Sniper Joe when he tried to end Wily's rule.

  • At the end of that song, the guitar part sounds really familiar. Is it on another song on this album? (Or on Act I?)

  • @Tamino2443 It's on several songs. Its a central motif to the entire story. I believe its i Keep Quiet as well as a few others.

  • Where can I buy the album?

  • Still missing, How the World Fell Under Darkes and The Fall. Intermission is up though.

  • I personally believe that Protoman, in this tale, is based off of Joe. In the original games, Protoman/Breakman was the original design for the Sniper Joe series of mass produced robots. Of coarse the robot that they took the helmet from would have probably been said Sniper Joe, although they didn't name it here. At least that's what I think, everyone can have their own interpretation of the same thing. -shrugs-

  • @seasonalsoldier Well. I think he was inspired by Joe to make Sniper Joe. Proto was made BEFORE the Sniper Joes...I think. But that is a good idea. :D

  • @TheOneandOnlyCG Thanks. The timeline in the Protomen's work still confuses me a little, so I don't know when things are compare to the games. XD

  • @seasonalsoldier Well, Act II was the prequel. But in the game context Protoman was actually made before Sniper Joes. So..when Joe died perhaps he did make the Sniper Joes once Protoman was finished?

  • @TheOneandOnlyCG Wait... is this in the game or the song now? @____@ And I know the the Sniper Joes are a mass produced model of Protoman, hence Breakman's design.... um... so I'm really just confused.

  • @seasonalsoldier The context I was using was from the game. And I'm kinda confused how The Protomen went around this timeline of Sniper Joes and Protoman. :T

  • @TheOneandOnlyCG The Sniper was the robot design Light and Wily made at the beginning. What marches out during this song is an army of mass-produced variants. They were named Joe to taunt Light, and Protoman, here, is basically a super-refined version of the Sniper build with some obvious extras.

  • @TheOneandOnlyCG I think the protomen have stated that the mass-produced sniper robots (based on protoman's design) were named "sniper Joe" to spite dr. light after he and joe killed the original sniper robot.

  • @G0lfimbul Agreed. I reread over the game timeline after I had posted that 2 months ago. Sniper Joes came before Protoman. So you're right. I haven't read up on them explaining the timeline. Thank you for clearing it up. ^-^

  • Comment removed

  • @seasonalsoldier Fuck the timeline, this is better.

  • joe when you see emily, tell her to wait for me....cause i still have work to do

    fucking epic

  • @theredmenace07 too bad he fucks up.

  • @theredmenace07

His work is Protoman, then eventually mega, if you didnt know.

    Act II is a prequel.

Not saying you didnt know, just helping the general public.

  • @theredmenace07 its so epic it grew me chest hair

  • @theredmenace07 I totally pictured Dr. Light looking up from Joe's helmet with Stanley Kubrick Stare toward Dr. Wily's tower at that part.

  • when the choir starts at 4:28 singing "this city" it sends chills down my spine

  • @Greeno666 what gives me the most chills is on the other album when they sing 'We are the dead' I shudder every time

  • my best friend had never played Mega Man (shocking, I know), and he's gotten into the Protoman quite a bit. This story is good for all demographics who like this style of music.

  • @SephurMcGoul Actually I haven't played Megaman either (But I will this summer). But I'm HOOKED to the Protomen. The story kindof fills in the plotless game and the music is just wicked awesome.

  • 4:15 - 4:30 best part

  • Music Videos!!!! Do it now Protomen! Do it. Or make a flash video at least :)

  • Along with The Good Doctor, this is my favorite song of the album.

  • I would just like to add a question and I'm sorry for the double post but I just thought.... You know Ummm where the hell is Megaman? After the first act he just leaves. He isn't dead, Protoman is, but Megaman hes just wandering around as Light and a random guy named Joe end up taking the city back. or is that something you think they might have had planned if they made an act 3?

  • The whole second act is a prequel, set before Protoman and Megaman were built.

  • Ahh Now that makes more sense. XD

  • I think Joe is Protoman? O.o

  • @Nightmare3922 I think that the helmet Joe wears becomes either protomans or megamans.

  • I had a similar idea of Megamans hemet. Joes becomes Protomans, Megaman takes it from Protomans grave. He'll reclaim it in the third to kick ass.

  • This is a prequel to the first cd, megaman hasn't been built yet. And the city wasn't enslaved until their failed attempt on wiley's life.

  • this is all before megaman is built

  • Wow only 58 views. This is odd.

Great Song, I really should by the CDs so that I actually know whats going on.

  • Buy the album dude. It's a great band and they need support.

    Also, it's an amazing story.

  • @CrunchyModem Actually most bands make next to nothing on their albums most of the money goes to the record companies; the best way you can support them is buy seeing them live and buying as much merch as you can at a show because thats where they make the bulk of their money.

  • @CrunchyModem indeed

  • @CrunchyModem saw they live bought two shirts :D

  • @CrunchyModem I'm getting a paypal just to buy these albums

  • @CrunchyModem It's an amazing story because it's a contribution to Megaman. All the songs tell about Megaman.

  • @VidyaShow More like an alternate universe which should totally be a game...
