@Firefate8 Sorry for late response. Most people would say:READ THE TITLE ******! But in the title it say Gear Failure. So on approach for the runway to land he tried putting down his gear but two got stuck. Hope this helped, if not contact me again.
That is extremely unrealistic. It would fall down on the right wing immediately after touchdown. There is no way you would be able to hold it up like that.
@etin12 and @thebeastpilot: Next: in as far as I know any ditching emergency checklist it's a procedure to raise the gear. Also look at youtube.com/watch?v=qmeRfcWrDnQ and especially from 4:22, supporting what I said before. Look @ 5:55 to see the impact. Look at youtube.com/watch?v=-NzzSmMESbU (real footage) to see what happens if one part is ditching earlier than the other. Coolboez was asking whether it wasn't better to ditch on the water. The answer remains: no.
@tinytwarps I guarantee you you can't, the engine would be damaged when it hits the ground, thus making it either dangerous to activate reverse thrust or impossible, here's hoping i never fly with your dad.
@slaneyboi listen retard did u know u culd disengage reverse thrust befor the engen hits the ground and not risk overunning the runway.man get your facts strait
@tinytwarps Right so you disengage it before it hits the ground, awesome well done. Now, what happens when the engine hits the ground? More than likely it will fail, it will bend and cause the fan blades to break. That leaves one engine working, that one engine if reverse thrust is activated would pull the aircraft off to the side. Now, who needs to get their facts straight?
You came in WAY too high first of all, a bit faster than you should with only one gear, and in real life you would have broken the gear right off with that landing, not too great tbh
@Cheesepickles22 Yeah, when you go to the Main 'Free Flight' screen there should be a 'Failures' tab to the right. Click that and you can customise your failures etc....
@Coolboez305 uhm... no. Simply because hitting the water like that would likely shred the plane into pieces. Landing on land not only gives you better access to emergency services, but it does indeed keeps your aircraft more in tact when executed correctly.
@Coolboez305 Absolutely not. 1) At high speed water is as hard as concrete. 2) The left side will suddenly be pulled into the water because the gear is digging into the water while the right side isn't -> the plane will desintegrate. 3) Even without failures landing on water with a modern plane is really difficult. 4) The chance of survival for passengers is a lot less then on a airport (where there is no flooding, less panic and emergency services nearby).
@thebeastpilot and @etin12: please read the comment I was commenting to. The hudson river incident didn't have one gear down. Next to that I'm not saying it's impossible. But I'm sure that when at the Hudson incident ONE gear was down the outcome would be different. Next: if the pilots had the option to land at a runway instead, they would have. Remember that in landing configuration this airplane is still going around 66 m/s. Landing at rough water is like landing on a very VERY bumpy road...
@theforce119 you can land in water just pitch the nose to 5 degrees above water level then lower speed to 30-40 knots it should give you enough balance on all sides of the aircraft and even tho the wheel will corse drag it shouldnt have much efect aslong as you counter wieght the plane.
@Exseigee You are talking rubish. 1) You don't want too much pitch because when the rear touches the water it will create a lot of drag, so the front will be smashed into the water. Like doing a wheelie with a motor cycle and then break suddenly. 2) A Boeing 737-800 (as in the video) has a stall speed around 110 knots. 30-40 knots WON'T give any balance at all!
@theforce119 tbh im right because my dad is a pilot he tells me everthing about a plane. for example if ur going to hit water and u only have 1 engine working you ever speed up or glide and you do pitch ur nose up or the nose will go under water and fly the aircraft.
@Exseigee "the nose will go under water and fly the aircraft"? How does your dad land a Boeing 737-800 with 30-40 knots? And we aren't talking about 1 engine working, we are talking about a situation where only one gear is down. Oh and please look at the video's I linked to as they clearly demonstrate why a pilot prefers land above water for emergency situations. And that was where this whole argue was about.
The engines of a Boeing airliner usually resemble a scoop, and that'll take the wings right off, shred the fuselage and probably kill more people than what landing on land would.
you would have brought that one wheel up instead of having only one wheel because the plane spins out of control, so u shouold have had raised that wheel
I love how fsx ignored the engine and it just sinks into the ground. But on the other note, i'd almost consider landing without any gear at all vs the one gear so I could prevent the 12 foot crash onto my wing and keep the plane straight.
"Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We are currently on final to Middle of Nowhereville International Airport.
