Also look at youtube.com/watch?v=qmeRfcWrDn­Q and especially from 4:22, supporting what I said before. Look @ 5:55 to see the impact. Look at youtube.com/watch?v=-NzzSmMESb­U (real footage) to see what happens if one part is ditching earlier than the other. Coolboez was asking whether it wasn't better to ditch on the water. The answer remains: no.

More than likely it will fail, it will bend and cause the fan blades to break. That leaves one engine working, that one engine if reverse thrust is activated would pull the aircraft off to the side. @Coolboez305 Absolutely not. 1) At high speed water is as hard as concrete. 2) The left side will suddenly be pulled into the water because the gear is digging into the water while the right side isn't -> the plane will desintegrate. 3) Even without failures landing on water with a modern plane is really difficult. 4) The chance of survival for passengers is a lot less then on a airport (where there is no flooding, less panic and emergency services nearby).

But I'm sure that when at the Hudson incident ONE gear was down the outcome would be different. Next: if the pilots had the option to land at a runway instead, they would have. Remember that in landing configuration this airplane is still going around 66 m/s. Landing at rough water is like landing on a very VERY bumpy road...

@theforce119 you can land in water just pitch the nose to 5 degrees above water level then lower speed to 30-40 knots it should give you enough balance on all sides of the aircraft and even tho the wheel will corse drag it shouldnt have much efect aslong as you counter wieght the plane.

@Exseigee You are talking rubish. 1) You don't want too much pitch because when the rear touches the water it will create a lot of drag, so the front will be smashed into the water. Like doing a wheelie with a motor cycle and then break suddenly. 2) A Boeing 737-800 (as in the video) has a stall speed around 110 knots. 30-40 knots WON'T give any balance at all!

I love how fsx ignored the engine and it just sinks into the ground. But on the other note, i'd almost consider landing without any gear at all vs the one gear so I could prevent the 12 foot crash onto my wing and keep the plane straight.
