  • aH this makes my carpel tunnel hurt! I remember going to sleep early in the morning to this music at many many Galaxs! Well before the stalls were torn down and pavement put in. Oh I miss those days where Bluegrass and Oldtime were mingled together for all to enjoy. Not sure if the Bluegrass just finally ran them out or if the Killing of the stalls did it. But as a true Bluegrasser who spent 33 years at Galax it was a sad day. I think that is why I lost interest 2 years ago when I quit going.

  • I went to Clifftop this past Summer. It was my first festival, and I went by myself. Mark and Hilarie from this band were the first friends I made there. Wouldn't you know they went on to win trad band! Great musicians, and some of the nicest people you could hope to meet.

  • This band finally got the recognition they deserved this year - First Place in the traditional band contest at Clifftop 2011!

  • MAGNIFIC

  • Great Jam folks

  • damn that's good!

  • WOW..............

  • This is just amazing. This should replace rock and hip hop and party music of this day... It makes me groove.

  • Great musicians.....great bass player.

  • 4 people need to learn how to use there mouse ?

  • check out the duet at swammy05

  • GREAT GREAT video!!!!! Just puts your soul in the Mountains

  • Cool tune, whata kick!

  • Superb

  • Me too. I come back to this video often. Yes, great warmup tune and just plain fun to listen to. I have shared it with other friends. Hope some of my jam group guys pick up on it. I will kick it in on tonight's jam at the Donut Shop.

  • I have been playing guitar in Bluegrass bands for over 45 years and I guess one of the top rhythm guys arm breaker songs to accompany is Rawhide.

But I love to play this great video almost daily and follow along playing the chord changes as a warm up exercise. Love this video!!

  • thats crowd gathering stuff ,play it and they will come. 5 stars

  • Poor white trash. HAH! If that's what they're calling today then I'm sure proud to be a part of such great music.

Best version I've heard of Half Past Four.

    5 stars

  • I've just discovered this wonderful video and find myself playing it every day. Never heard this tune "Half Past Four". Really memorable tune. Everyone is so happy playing it. Nothing like a good fiddle tune to put you in a good mood.

Also especially enjoyed the frailing??_drop thumb?) banjo and the guy on the banjo/uke pounding out the rythym.

  • Boys, if you ain't right...............well I'm sorry. Now if my feet will just keep still I'll be able to calm down. They just ain't no better music and I don't care who you are.

  • Not poor white trash you are rich with music. It is pouring out all over you..God gives us talent and He sure gave you guys alot. God Bless

  • heck yes, thats what america is about, chillin and jaming where ever you want. Great times, family.

  • ya'll aint too poor!!! great tunes,great vid...way ta get'em pickin' and a choppin'!

  • nice

  • Rachel Eddy is a RED HOT FIDDLER!!! She plays with alot of drive and feeling, and she ain't too hard to look at either!!!

  • Racheal........you rock!! you all rock!! please please do a tutorial on the fiddle for this version of this tune, I am trying to work it out but am struggling with the bowing!!

  • HOT DOG

  • I really like this! I wonder though, sometimes many of you have on sunglasses, & other times you do not. Was this filmed at different times? Just curious! carry on!

  • I so love this tune and this version too.............you guys rock!!!

  • where is rachael now?she is cute.

  • Very cool Bill. I tried the "&fmt=18". Sharp, and for youtube closely synced with music.

  • Great tune but OH SO FAST!! Slow it down guys as it loses too much being thrashed like this!

  • Hey, we were playing for us... and we had a lot of pent-up energy seeing as we had raced to the stage to play in the contest and gotten there about 20 seconds too late. You couldn't have slowed us down with Thorazine at that point. We were ready to play and by gum we were gonna play something somewhere.

  • I miss clifftop :'( this video makes me think of it ^_^ glad to know there are clifftop videos out there

  • I've watched this many, many times. Great tune, great playing, great edits. Five more stars.

  • Awesome playing. Is the little banjo/uke the instrument that is chopping?

  • Thats groovy

  • beautiful. i could listen to this all damn day long

  • Some might'y fine jammin, but"boy"my arms got tired just watching you.

  • You gotta love it!! This is real music!

  • Great playing guys, I really enjoyed that.

  • Rachel you look so purdy, If you were'nt twice my age I'd marry you!

  • Like we were there; I can't keep from tappin'. Thank you billamuss. 5*****

  • That's brilliant!....as I read the comment about you just having to dance to this tune, I realized my head was bopping and my feet were tapping along!

  • Great chops you guys! One of these days I have to venture cross the Mississippi to checkout your festival.

  • I Love IT. We need more of this music on the radio and TV. Bring It Back

  • Just Great .. Thanks Guy Wolff

  • Why the hell do the record execs continue to push "new country" when this stuff's got more life, better rhythm, and tons of soul. Fantastic.

  • @djfinex

Packaging unfortunately. They want pretty faces, sexy bodies, etc. It's not about music to them, it's about money. Get a group of playboy bunnies that can play as well as these folks and watch them skyrocket to fame.

  • @djfinex Because garbage sells better than real music. The public is a bunch of braindead mental cripples. That is why we get robbed by the government, and raped by corporations. The public gets what it asks for, if we stop buying garbage and start supporting fantastic real musicians, we'll hear stuff like this all the time.

  • @violatione S/HE SPEAKS THE TRUTH!

  • @djfinex , Record companies push crap because the people who spend the most money on records prefer crap.

  • @guitarslim56 the world's stupid, can't change it so just do what you love and f the rest

  • The chop or chunk rhythm you hear is the banjo uke, which supplies a lot of rhythm. It's all a matter of taste I guess. Personally I don't think it takes away from Rachel's fiddlin' or the banjer playin'. It's awfully hard to keep your feet still when listenin' to this song. If you don't want to buck dance on this one, sway, or pat your feet you'd better check with the doctor. You might be "daid"!

  • the chop rhythm helps make this tune swing! the more instruments the better. thats one hell of a string band

  • Nice sound . . sorry to be critical though but I can hear someone using a "chop rhythm" thought that was a no no in old time music, as that method of playing should be only used in Bluegrass?

  • What's wrong with expansion?

  • Wat a place u no!

  • love it so passionate

  • Very nice, I might check it out this year, I live so close and have never been.

  • Wish I was there ... Thanx for posting.

  • Great playing guys, I really enjoyed that.

Hey ... Good Luck next year! :-)

    Cheers

    Dick

  • Pure passion

  • That Rachels chicks smile there towards the end says it all!

  • if that doesn't just make you feel better!

  • I love Clifftop!

  • that's Rachel Eddy of the Morgantown Rounders on fiddle, Hilarie Burhans on banjo and Mark Hellenberg on banjo uke (both of Hotpoint Stringband, a contradance band), Stuart Kenney (of Wild Asparagus etc.)on bass, and Bill Dudley on guitar. This was recorded just after they missed their call for the OT stringband contest at Clifftop 07 (drawing a "3" didn't help!)

  • Yum Yum!!!

  • Hillary Burhans on banjo, Rachel Eddy on fiddle, Mark Hellenburg on banjo uke

  • Good pickin'!

  • That's Rachel Eddy on fiddle....

  • FARM OUT!!! I gotta go to Clifftop next year!!! Thanks for posting such a fun video featuring fine musicians.
