Just listen the song "Turn It Up".....it sounds like a Lady Gaga song. Ok the first album of them was decent but never real Melodic Death Metal. After 2005 they changed to Emo Pop music.

Melodeath is a fusion of NWOBHM style heavy metal and death metal, forming a more melodic death metal hybrid. Even the band "Death" who started the death metal genre were very melodic and shared very similar vocal style to a lot of Melodeath bands. Just listen to classic tracks like Symbolic and Crystal Mountain and you will see I'm right.

From what I can hear (and this is from a non-metalhead) melodeath sounds alot more like NWOBHM with a bit of death metal influence rather than a real mix of the two. Still tho, saying melodeath isn't "real metal" is ironic since the NWOBHM sounds more like early metal than does death metal. Melodeath is closer to the original death metal sound than modern death metal the melodies are very similar, as are the vocals. Slipknot isnt Melodeath and earlier In Flames used the Death Growl technique which comes form the chest. You've only named the most poppy sounding Melodeath band. Bands such as Amon Amarth, Insomnium and Dark Tranquility all use death growl vocals. Well, I agree with you on most of the part, like pushing them into sludge death metal or swamp death metal, but I have to say that Sonic Syndicate is not even supposed to be considered as mainstream Death metal, since they don't incorporate any death growls at all into their music. Death metal is categorized via death metal vocals, which is the aforementioned growling. Sonic Syndicate uses screams like in most hardcore bands, yet they metal riffs, hence they are metalcore and not melo-death.
