Your math is pretty off. Use a max of 6 for fighting non-vehicles? Run up to say a Trigon, squad of gene stealers, or even worse shooting terminators/gray knights? Your 6 guys will hit with 4 on average and do 3.3 wound to the first two assuming they are out of cover, and only 2.2 wounds to the terminators(not even the shield type). And now quite annoyed, they assault and destroy your Dragons. Unless maybe people you play against only like using units of 5 maybe?
Why would you waste a falcon to transport fire dragons. Its a waste of a weapon rofl, terrible idea. If you move 12, which you should, you will waste a weapon.
If you bring an exarch youve just wasted 20 points rofl.
@Parckie The reason you would use a Falcon to transport Dragons is because a Falcon is much more likely to actually survive to get the Dragons to where they need to go. Wave Serpents are easy to shoot down with STR 8 weapons whereas a Falcon with Holofields is extremely hard to take down. You take the holo-Falcon because it keeps your Dragons alive, the guns are just a bonus. As for shooting, if you take an EML and you do need to move 12 you can still fire it as a Defensive Weapon.
@samuelwarhammer40k a warlock to put in the guardian squad with the conceal ability, and a tank either a fire prism for tank busting abilities/ tough enemy troops or a falcon for shots at infantry. Also a close combat unit stiking scorpians, howling banshees or harliquins if you have the effort to paint them, and a farseer to hang around with the war walker with one of his psychic abilities
please those of you foolish enough to think the Eldar can't exterminate any of the lower races are really in deep denial...the Eldar can see the future & manipulate all races to thier end...another thing- The Eldar can leave the Universe anytime they want & live in the Webway (which they created). Numbers, guns, being outnumbered, or being at the brink of extinction doesn't matter if you're an Eldar...with all their "Weakness" they're still 1 of the most powerful races in the game....
plan ahead, write an army list for how ever many points you plan on playing, you'l save time, money, and a few headaches this way.
i suggest a farseer with a few warlocks, warlocks cost about 5 dollars per model and the farseer should be about 15. so for about 30$ you can get a really strong and customizeable HQ.
@AgeOfReclamation Nope, Dude 1 eldar fleet like destroyed an attack from hive fleet kraken, Prince Yriel like carved the hive tyrant leading the attack to bits.
Yeah, these Fire Dragon tactics are pretty dire. Truth is of course that they excel at both killing tanks AND hard units. Doh.
What also gets me riled is that many of the people who record these tactica don't take the time to actually do their homework. I am really not interested at all in them having to correct themselves whilst they look things up DURING RECORDING
against new fifth edition armies with huge tank squadrons like imperial guard leman russ squadrons fire dragons excel.
charging at terminators can work but with 12 inch range you ARE IN ASSAULT RANGE 6+6, also if you are using them as anti-heavy infantry crack shot is very good for only 5 points since in 5th edition practically anything on the board gets a cover save, and tank hunters is incredible against tanks, what fire dragons are for.
Best tactic vids ever. Good work guys. I look for tactics for eldar and I get people talking from the darn Codex. I CAN READ PPL!! Again, nice work. Love the vids.
Decent list, not mobile enough for my tastes. Also, what are you claiming your objectives with? Guardians or dire avengers have always been vital in my lists for objective games.
I run.
1)Guide/Fortune Seer in Falcon
2)Dire Avengers in Wave Serpent x2
3)Pathfinders for holding your home objective 4)with their 2+ cover.
5)Shining Spears
Depending on points you can add
2x Fireprisms (the linked AP3 large blast is a great MEQ killer)
give your exarch dragon's breath flamer and give him crack shot. not much can survive a strenght 5 flamer ap4 that rerolls failed to wounds and no cover saves
I have what i call a " Dragon Wagon" a squad of 5 fire dragons (4+exarch) in a wave serpent that has spirit stones so it can always keep on the move. Sounds cheap but it is an awesome tank hunting squad.
ok, i watched these vids, like the eldar style, but dont know alot about them other than they look cool and are low priced. question, what should i buy for my first 500-1000 pts
Low priced? Their units are some of the most expensive ingame, save guardians. And there transports are the most dangerous, survivable, and expensive.
fire dragons are really strong (they shoot the anemy and BOOM) .but their 4+ save really dissapoints me, so instead of taking them in my falcon i use 6 harlequins in a falcon (including shadowseer). should i use 10 or 9 dragons in a serpent???
I use 10 Fire Dragons (9 + Exarch) to bolster a gunline made up of 20 Guardians with a Bright Lance Heavy Weapon and 10 Dire Avengers (9 + Exarch) and a Wraithlord, if the enemy throws any vehicles my way on turn one the Fire Dragons knock out the vehicle leaving the Dire Avengers 27 shots of Shuriken Catapults and my Wraithlords Shurkien Cannon...
... If nothing is left then I use my Guardians Bright Lance to target any other vehicles behind the first. Then my Scorpions and Autarch move in for the kill.
Dude what's up with the fear of assault terminators, they only got that 4+ inv save in CC, so actually tactical terminators are so much worse, since they can shoot you aswell as squish you in cc... geez
You use crack shot to ignore cover saves or combine with a heavy flamer to give some serious anti-infantry power. (re roll to wound str 5 ap 4 template= Dead swarms)
Well u need redundancy in an eldar army. I use 3 squads of 6 fire dragons (3 falcons, 2 dire avengers squads 2 wave serpents, eldrad.) The fire pikes added range isn't very useful as you should be looking to plant the whole in range. Vs high value targets the reroll and ignore cs is fine but not inspired. This combo murders nobs, stealers, other eldar and marines. +3sv will fail if you take 5 of them. Remember fire dragons are cheap, take lots, for 128pts u get a unit that can shoot up anything
The list I mentioned earlier is 1700pt (northern europe) army. Works very well. Can focus on one half of the field quite easily.Where it'll out gun and reroll most non eldar armies. Don't ask about CC, it has to be doomed, me fortuned and a wuss. Very fragile and eldrad dependent. The redundancy of most units being able to tackle armour (rear hits please) or infantry means you have to wipe half the army (or the farseer) to cripple it. Its the infantry not the vehicles that do the bulk killing.
I'm an atheist, and I find stuff like "satan ftw" a mere joke. I was not implying that I want to go to hell. Also, it sounds you are saying that atheist worship the devil? maybe this is a mishap, but atheists do not believe in heaven or hell, hence me thinking "satan ftw" is funny.

True line of sight. Put the Falcon on the flying base like it is supposed to have and your models can see right under it. It's high enough that it won't even get in your way. No cover save for them and they still have to go around.
I find no support for this in the rulebook or in the errata online. The only thing I can find in the rulebook is "Note that a skimmer must be set down on the table and left in place at the end of its move - it cannot be left hovering in mid-air!"
Also C' is pronounced 'kah', so it would be Kah-tan for C'tan.
Also, fire dragons within 6" of a vehicle with tank hunter exarch power will destroy a tank after a penetrating on a 3+ and as normal at a 5+ after a glancing hit! That's awesome!
Ok, now I get it, I misread the rules and checked in a scenario with my models, they ment that you place the BASE down on the table which the skimmer is hovering on, not putting down the entire skimmer on the ground.
Still, being able to easily knock-out tanks in 1 round of shooting before moving on is pretty awesome. I think I will use my fire dragons as tank hunters.
Once again, sorry for my bad way of reading the rules. I'm new to this game, so I'm pretty much still learning. :(
This doesn't make any sense. Fire dragons have a range of 12", that means if you shoot an enemy unit, you pick out the casualties from the back of the unit and then you're still able to assault. Fire Dragons in assault = GG.
Just checked the rulebook on page 24. Seems I'm right
"Note that any model in the target unit can be hit, wounded and taken off as a casualty, even models that are completely out of sight or out of range of all of the firers."
But if you drop them in the BACK of the falcon, the enemy cant run at them, meaning they have to go around, and may not be in range, Meanwhile you can shoot through your falcon
just wandering is it worth putting these guys in a 1,500 point list

5 Dragons (no options) in a cheap Serpent is enough, then put 2 of them...
It's like a one-shot stuff that get killed after, but it's cheap and reliable.
Puting Dragons in a Falcon is not that good, because Falcon is the only Eldar Tank that can get 3xS8 shoots.
I use them with 5-6 avengers...to get a S8 tower then go taking objectives, moving 12" using Plasma missiles (S4)+Pulselazer+maybe shurikens (S4).
