I wanted to make sure that if I committed to a relationship again, there would be no point to having a family if i couldn't count on my wife to be, to be there 20+ years down the road. I didnt want to be a man who paid child support to provide for my children, I wanted to BE there.

Movies teach us that the "Chemical high" is love and the man owes it to the woman to provide her with a perpetual high (something similar is done with men regarding sex), and the only places you will find women that are not raised on a steady diet of that kind of movie are places you will have to risk life and limb just to visit, much less find a woman who hasn't been raised on that. @JasonCaesare Philippines is not for everyone. What the philippines has in terms of expecting a perpetual "high" it lacks in the form of executing legal action to act on these fantasies. I've had a wonderful time in the philippines, and have decided never to return to the USA. If a person is not willing to learn the local language, and adopt the customs, then I would advice a western man not even to try.
@WisdomThroughLogic I'm just speaking as a man who has lived in the Philippines for the past five years. My impression has been the opposite of what you've said. I have seen too many cases of women using the legal system to abuse men. I can speak four of the dialects here, and I pretty much adopt anything from the culture which is decent, but I concede there are certainly more freedoms here than back home. I'm happier here in a lot of ways. I have no plans to go back.

One thing I've seen here is that no two places are really alike. The TV is the real enemy, it makes sure the "Message" gets around. If you're planning to settle down and marry in the Philippines, know that all the women are brainwashed into wanting to go abroad.
@JasonCaesare I'm already here. I live in sariaya(quezon province). I studied tagalog for 2 years, built up a big friend network here. What i advise men to do before settling is to KNOW the language. Knowing the culture has saved my ass many many times. I did come across the greencard grabbers upon arriving. Word gets around that there is an "american" living in the city. I initially got alot of attention. But was very carefull.
@JasonCaesare pt.2 I made my intent clear. that "I do not wish to go back to the USA to live". I told them I came to the philippines to adapt, and to asismilate. Eventually the greencard grabbing women gave up. And I was able to see women who were pure of heart (so to speak). Rule #1 for me I would only meet women through introduction, from friends who knew what my intentions were (they were a big help from keeping me out of trouble).

@WisdomThroughLogic It's funny you ask that. Technically, there is no such thing as "Ilonggo language". The people from Iloilo are Ilonggo or Ilongganon, but Hiligaynon covers a much larger area. Movies teach us that the "Chemical high" is love and the man owes it to the woman to provide her with a perpetual high (something similar is done with men regarding sex), and the only places you will find women that are not raised on a steady diet of that kind of movie are places you will have to risk life and limb just to visit, much less find a woman who hasn't been raised on that. I've had a wonderful time in the philippines, and have decided never to return to the USA. I have seen too many cases of women using the legal system to abuse men. I can speak four of the dialects here, and I pretty much adopt anything from the culture which is decent, but I concede there are certainly more freedoms here than back home. I'm happier here in a lot of ways. I have no plans to go back.

@JasonCaesare I'm already here. I live in sariaya(quezon province). I studied tagalog for 2 years, built up a big friend network here. What i advise men to do before settling is to KNOW the language. Knowing the culture has saved my ass many many times. I did come across the greencard grabbers upon arriving. Word gets around that there is an "american" living in the city. I initially got alot of attention. But was very carefull.

Eventually the greencard grabbing women gave up. And I was able to see women who were pure of heart (so to speak). Rule #1 for me I would only meet women through introduction, from friends who knew what my intentions were (they were a big help from keeping me out of trouble).

@WisdomThroughLogic It's funny you ask that. Technically, there is no such thing as "Ilonggo language". The people from Iloilo are Ilonggo or Ilongganon, but Hiligaynon covers a much larger area. Some of them even generically refer to it as Bisaya. It is, in my opinion, 25% like Tagalog, 40% like Cebuano, 15% other, and maybe 20% unique. They are really into mixing it if they are in the city. I came for many reasons, but I couldn't explain it here.
