  • The downward trajectory on the refrain is just heartbreaking.

  • Jesus, this song is so beautiful and emotional that it's physically painful to listen to.

  • That was lovely. Thanks for posting.

  • Extraordinary - such wonderful vocal control - beautiful <3

  • Wow...Kate Bush always has the power to put me deep in thought and make my eyes water. It just takes me back to the late 70's / early 80's when I was in my teens. Kate you are such an amazing talent. Thanks arosegrowingold. Great Posting.

  • I don't think it's her greatest unreleased song. But I really like the pictures.

  • Beautiful when she was a child.

  • I wept...

  • 1980, left Houston to take new job in Cancun' (stayed one year), but first drove home to Florida with my wife, bought a couple of cars to drive to Mexico (enlisted my best friend to drive the extra), one for personal use and the other for a quick illegal sale to raise cash. On the way back west toward Mexico, stopped in various flea markets to convert most of my money into goods, again for resale there at inflated prices.

  • @rlsimmonsjr Somehow I ended-up with an unlabeled home-recorded cassette tape. Playing it on the trip, my only tape for almost 3,000 miles, I discovered Kate Bush (and Adam Ant), though I didn't know her name for years. To this day, I can't think of that trip without hearing those songs.

  • @rlsimmonsjr You'd think I wouldn't have forgotten to bring music, since I'd done the same with "The Moody Blues"- "Knights in White Satin", 5 years previously at 19 yo, on a 3-car caravan I organized (again enlisting friends) to sell cars on the Mexico/Belize border.

  • Stunning, had to listen again.

  • Nice music and pics. Are those pictures of Kate as a young girl? Cute, whoever it was.

  • @daven58100 The pictures are taken from 'Cathy', a book of photographs of Kate as a child, published by her brother, John

  • @arosegrowingold thanks.

  • KATE, PLEASE RECORD THIS AGAIN ):

  • Master piece...!

  • her voice is just a miraculous instrument

    eternal existent

  • Perfect...

  • Thank the gods who care to listen that Kate is not remotely so portentous as those who fawn upon her work and her words. She is special. But beautifully human. Are you so much less that you can only sit like starving dogs at the table of the Mistress waiting for the morsel of sustenance that might fall from her lips.

  • It is one of her best. Didn't she do this when she was 15?

  • Kate Bush is the Queen, nothing can describe the way I feel about her,

  • Wow totally brilliant !!

  • i agree, this and "a rose growing old" are masterpieces...why on earth did she not release them? I can't imaging how many b-sides and extras there must be, both new and old, that are just sitting around somewhere...

  • very art song orientated - I wish she had released some more early songs like this song and e.g. Carmilla

  • As nice as this is, "Under the Ivy" blows it away.

  • You can see where .The Man With the Child in His Eyes' come from.

  • Her music is stunning, come to that so is she...

  • Wow

  • what a talent always been my number one female vocalist & so fearless

  • Bought her box-set a year ago with 2 c.d's of her really early works...God I love that woman.

  • The music just pours out of her like sunlight.

  • a precious rarity, this piece totally new to me. she shares such inspiration. thank you for uploading this!

  • The pictures are from the book Cathy, right? Never seen it but heard of it.

  • hypnotic,mesmerising and addictive

  • The words "bliss" "delightful" and "exquisite" were all put in dictionaries as an aid to describing Kate Bush, She was a teenager when i was a teenager, were about the same age. I loved my music, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Genesis, Simon and Garfunkel, and many other great artists. I also liked Kate Bush, but she was just a beautiful looking popstar who produced nice songs, nothing more. Alas it has taken me 30 years to recognise her genius. I have wasted over 50% of my life. James.

  • @020960108 Oh what a lovely comment - but you have realised and there is still enough time to appreciate her genius and - oooh look - she has a new album out in a fortnight!

  • @020960108 i think it does not matter at what point enlightenment comes...the important thing is that it comes and it always comes at the right time. Nothing has been wasted.

  • @020960108 Good for you mate, mind you, them other bands you liked were a bit special too were'nt they? Some people have never even heard of Kate Bush. But I get your drift buddy, she's a total revelation I think.

  • 10,000 views for a 35 year old unreleased song after only 9 months on YT.

    Genius will always shine through...

  • @arosegrowingold Make that 20,000 in 10 months!

  • @arosegrowingold 30,000 in less than a year!

  • what a talent. wish id had those breaks.

  • she is so so awesome!

  • What a gem ! How old was she when she wrote this ?

  • @finalcut75 Like all Kate questions - not very easy to answer. There is an earlier version, probably recorded when she was 15 - I think she's 17 on this version.

  • @TheQuietEye hahaha whaaat? :D

  • This is a really early work right?

It's far from the maestria of some songs she released after that but it's suprisingly mature, just as the the Kick Inside.

  • Best quality version I've heard of this song, thanks arose!

  • The perfect accompanying images for this lovely song. Thank you!

  • I forget if I've posted this before (and I have two YouTube IDs, the other is The Quiet Eye) but the reference to wading through the pond reminds me of a short story by Saki relevant to the content of the song, I could find the reference if I wasn't sitting in a the kitchen in the early hours, with a cat trying to press CTRL-ALT-DELETE or at least shed fur on the keys - god, she was well-read, and her parents did an amazing job of providing their children access to so many aspects of culture.

  • @flo15jo Couldn't you just enjoy it, other half? Why the analysis? Ah, we're incompatible.

  • This HAS to be the most beautiful song she has created. I absolutely loved it the second i heard it and fell for its charm. Im soooooooo glad that its not just me that liked this the most out of all her tracks...but it is simply, simply stunning.

  • Watched an interview with her from 1980 before the release of 'Never For Ever', she said that she probaly had 200 songs composed and written before the release of 'The Kick Inside', that is amazing. I hope that one day she will release some of these gems.

  • Oh i love her

  • Why would something so beautiful not be released?

  • this is goddess work.

  • I'd add It hurts me and KOABS to the most promising unreleased songs...

This one is something more than a song to me.

  • There's something that sounds like a song In my garden, by the willow A piper: "Oohoo, ahoo, oohoo, ahoo, oohoo, ahoo, hoooo" I see him when I turn the lights down low, In my garden, wading through the pond. Dressed in sailing wear. "Oohoo, ahoo, oohoo, ahoo, oohoo, ahoo, hoooo" I've called him by every name I know, By every name I know, But he won't answer me. He keeps coming forward, but never moving. Is there no destiny here? It sounds like a song In my garden, so long before aeriel too!!
  • @snacklofter She is pursuing a single-minded artistic direction, motivated by an pantheist philosophy that has never wavered since she was 11. Listen to the demo of 'Why Should I Love You?' - it's like a misson statement for the production of Aerial!

  • @snacklofter Thankyou for the lyrics to this wonderful song. I have listenend to it for years and I couldnt quite make some words out. But reading the lyrics you have put down they do make sense completely now! Thankyou!!!!

  • OMG. I totally agree! this is a beautiful track. tori amos eat your heart out!

a close second for me is "scares me silly (but it gets me going)"

but this is truly the greatest

  • so simple yet so beautiful

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks so much for the recommendations there all really great! And here I thought I have heard all of Kate's music;P Thanks again!

  • Speechless... this is just genius and so hauntingly beautiful! I love the simplicity. She is such a gift to the world.

  • @dgisit If you enjoy this - check out 'It Hurts Me' or 'Rinfy the Gypsy'

  • Nice work ARGO!! I've always wondered what this would have been like if given the full production treatment, but there again "Why should I love You" was and it ruined it for me - I much prefer the original demo, TRS 11 (This Chapter Says) watch?v=icqumCYwzjE , so perhaps this simple version should stay as the definitive one! It's beautiful as it is. Oh, shut up TC, you're going on, and on, and on .... always the same when you get on your pet subject haha!

  • @vibesinthesky I thought the same.

This song is already incredibly beautiful in the demo version.

I wonder how it would be with a wise musical arrangement

    Probably we'll never know

  • Someone who sounds like a genious.
