26th St. and California? signs on the back of porches? I never saw that but maybe that could mean "if you are trespassing in my porch or my apartment that is where you will end up?" or maybe people just brag that they "lived" there.
I'm pretty sure it was someone who "lived" there;-) This was a long time ago -- late '70's, early '80's -- back when Chicago's street signs were still yellow with black lettering, and the north side neigbhorhoods along the Red Line had some pretty rough areas.
@artistmac Until they were gentrified. Some of those neighborhoods near the red that are yuppie neighborhoods were controlled by gangs back in the 70s and 80s. Wrigleyville was Latin Eagle turf and tough back in the 80s.
