slew was a nice big horse -- Made it look easy - Notice the size of that head! A real colt! and a true legend --He beat Affirmed a few times and Affirmed had talent and heart to spare!-- thanks for the video!
@143ilovestormy Many people own a grandson of Seattle Slew. Seems like just about every card accross the nation has at least one horse with Seattle Slew in their bloodline.
@gotch09 I was stunned when i saw that, he is bumping and pushing them around, "get out of my way bitches". slew had an agressive disposition. he seriously wanted to run away from them all.
@umarmaxmas Slew did one thing if he didn't know anything else,if they didn't move aside just "bull" your way through. You had to admire his guts and nerve.
Yes, that was obviously the key to the race. Cruguet doesn't get enough credit for aggressively clearing a path. I was glad this version showed the isolated replay of the opening quarter.
I remember being stunned when Slew broke so poorly. The Derby is the one race you can't afford that, as a frontrunner in a logjam race.
Good tactic, IMO, by For The Moment. He made Slew earn it, after content to trail Slew in the Champagne. Cormorant pushed the front end in the Preakness.
The baby i just got today is a grandbaby of him <3

Wow, I didn't know that people were already comparing Seattle Slew to Secretariat back then.
Safe to say he lived up to the billing. He sure got away with one here... somehow finding a way through after a slow break!

It's really inspiring to see Slew fight his way to the front by the first turn. Very much appreciate this post :)

Great extra footage and insight afterwards. Always terrific to hear the late Jim McKay; ever the consummate professional. He'll be missed.
