Sadly Carlos Vela flatters to deceive. He's a very one footed player. Has insufficient upper body strength for the Premier League. He'll likely do OK in Spain's annual two horse race but won't be at the races at Arsenal. He won't compete with Chamberlain, Gervinho, Miyaichi or Walcoot for a wing position.

Everyone believes he is a striker/winger. He is more of a playmaker, very similar to Arshavin. He could of had 3 or four assists in this match. I hope he gets a chance at Arsenal. I think he is good enough..

@Reuben235 He's good enough but lacks the attitude off the pitch. He had a chance in the summer to go on loan to Lorient and he refused as he only wanted to go on loan to a Spanish-speaking club. How can he possibly succeed in England with that attitude? On the pitch his attitude is good enough, he has a good work rate.

@wriches Everything on the pitch is promising. Technical ability, work rate. I think it comes down to his motivation. I don't know how hard he works in training, but you'd think if he showed the right qualities Wenger would of played him. I wonder if he ever really settled in London, especially with the language barrier. These things have a big bearing on his performances, which is why he may have chosen to go to Spain. I don't think he speaks french.

@Reuben235 Yeah, I don't think he ever really settled - I'm yet to hear him speak English! He hasn't been helped at Arsenal by the formation - he can't play up front on his own, in the wide positions or central midfield. Instead he needs to play behind the striker(s).

Regarding the loan, the club wanted him to go to Lorient as they were the only team interested, and he refused. Sociedad's interest came later.
