  • never do your enemy minor damage...

  • ummm i have a queston, i dont live in the best of naighborhoods so i was wondering what kind of knife would be best to carry around.( yes i think its nessesary, i almost been mugged severl times before)

  • @MrJaywalker27

They responded to a question like that up above the audience comments.

  • librefighting are you open to having an authentic master in eskrima do a seminar at your place? he is highly sought after by law enforcement for his knife fighting knowledge. I have studied FMA for over 36 yrs and have never seen a more real approach to eskrima than what this master teaches. he is based in OC, socal and teaches a select group from his backyard. leave me a message and contact info if you want to learn more. with all my respect to you and your group!

  • what is song ?

  • Hollywood Undead - City

  • thats a pretty brutal demonstration put on there. If all you are trying to do is defend yourself, a single knife to another person, maybe even 2 is enough. They are going to be bleeding a lot if youve already gotten off a few clean hits. Ive done some krav maga on a trip with this company called lionops. what we were taught was basically to immobilize the other person, or get rid of their weapon so that you can get to safety, or subdue them

  • i want to learn libre fighting. i will ask my master has special knife and i bet he already learn this stuff

  • Not bad, but for the love of murphy, start using stiff rubber knives like the ones from Boker, and put on some goggles. Someone's going to get hurt.

  • lol, all killing strikes. better be okay with the consequences if your gonna use this on the street. Most likely end up in prison for stabbing a dude's neck 3 times and slashing down their back to finish them. (youtube viewers)

  • is not too risky to internalize moves that will inflict critical wounds on someone's body and render void any claims of self defense? i mean, even if you practice it for art, won't these moves come through automatically when you are attacked? can an experienced person calibrate the level of lethality at all in such a case?

  • @heirihunziker its the same for ancient martial arts( i say ancient because most died, leaving uneffiecient sports) you are trained to see how much damage you will do, see how much horror it will do, and even if you acciddently do it the first time, you will never ever do it again, unless in great need.

  • Do you guys suggest wielding the knife in your strong hand or offhand? Also, what type of stance is best in your opinion, again strong leg leading or the opposite?

  • @SexyParty154 Hello, it's better if you use your dominant hand when holding a bladed weapon since it's faster, stronger, and you're more used to using it (Even better if you train to use either hand, in case your dominant hand gets injured). Regarding the stance, you lead with your dominant side, kind of like in fencing, for maximum reach, and to get your weapon where you want it faster than the other guy. For self-defense purposes only, mind you, my friend!

  • im being honest....i learned these moves at home myself.

the human body is amazin so wit the human mind.

both are the worlds deadly weapons. think about it

  • @jonm107 You really should practice in a club or something. You have to account for reactions on different people, different skills, different body types.

  • the only thing that can protect you from a knife attack is an equilizer like a plank of wood,a brick, rock, or another martial arts weapon i carry a sword concealed as a cane.

  • what knife do u suggest for every day carry

  • @bossman12334 The swiss army knife is great. It has a okay blade and nice selection of many tools. It is the perfect EDC.

  • Looks like a vicarious liability nightmare to me.

  • you guys are truley amazing! thank you for the vid! the best ive seen!

  • Very fluid demonstration of Filipino Martial Arts. One of the best I've seen.

  • Do you grab the person's arm holding the knife and then stab them with your own knife?

  • Great stuff!

  • I was brought to this video by JT. Just wanted to say that this is some badass blade work! Always thought that blade fighting was a technique only for special operators but since you have some DVD's out, I think I'm gonna get em and give it a go.

  • In response to Mydeadguy: We have a saying in my system, "Throw your knife - lose your life."

To Mr. Babb - I can do without the music (at my age) LOL! But you and your students are very impressive. Very much like my system with the flow of blocks, cuts, and passoffs. I look forward to seeing more of your demos posted. Thank you very much.

  • scott babb=cut you the f*&% up.that guy is to real,he needs to change his name to riggidy raw.wish i lived in san diego.cool video

  • does this system come from 52 blocks?

  • 0:48 she looks so inocent lol

  • Damn thats fricking cool.........and awesome video and music combo! I definitely need to think about taking a class.

  • BAD ASS....THANKS, SUBSCRIBITION ADDED!

  • Very cool video, Im glad that in your comment to sputnikdx that you said you made this video to be bigger and more expressive than in your class, to be enjoyable. It seems alot of martial artists train against human "statues" of bad guys. But we all know that no one just stands there in a fight. You guys should shoot a video of a sparring match full speed... Much respect

  • just love it!!

  • i would lve to be able to fight like that but mainly its because i dont wanna have to carry a weapon or kill anyone unless i have no options and if i can disarm someone like that ......man that would be tight

  • when he did all those moves i woulda been like "fuck this" then thrown the knife at him

  • there is no reason to justify survial

  • This is cool...

  • I was friends with a trained Weapons Specialist From the State Patrol , He told me the knife instructor there could throw a knife and bet him on the draw of his weapon!

  • AMAZING. thats all i got to say

  • Cutting Edge Combatives will be hosting Scott Babb, Libre Fighting Head Instructor, in Orlando, Florida on October 9th, 2010.

Join us for this dynamic seminar; space is limited!!

  • I take JKD and we do a lot of knife fighting. I gotta say I like what I see here. I'm sure just like in my practice it's not quite as pretty as it is in this video. Ha, fighting never is though is it? Great trapping skills and tapi tapi though. Keep it up man.

  • why do you need all those movements, a knife to the throat should do it

  • This music is awful.

  • Cool demos, Do you guys have videos showing non-static stuff or sparring? I would like to see how this all goes down with someone resisting hard. Cool black uniforms btw ;)

  • lets just say "rather know it then not know it"

  • to sputnikdx Its showing "flowing" in the art of Kali/escrima each thing could be broken down into a self defense "technique" But who wants to go around with a bag full of "techniques" Just learn angles and how to flow ! It does not matter if it is empty hand or with a knife or stick! just learn angles and flow. Clearly your comment leads me to believe your one dimensional in action and thought! You should train in Kali / Escrima first and understand what is really going on.

  • THIS IS SIMPLY A FILIPINO MARTIAL ART, IT IS ESKRIMA/KALI..

  • I do not understand the people who are complaining that these moves are lethal. This is a MARTIAL art, people. People who go to the gun range are also training to kill - are you posting horrified comments on every marksmanship video?

The art is what it is, and its up to the instructor to choose who he teaches, put things in context, and be responsible. Its also up to the student to use their discretion and common sense.

  • Thanks Scott your dvd is awesome you cover alot of good stuff.. keep up the great work!!

  • This method of fighting is clearly a more artistic martial art. Aside from the unarmed portion of the video, hardly any of these moves would be smart to perform on the opponents a normal person would be facing. As for the shooters of this video, I think it would be a good idea to show what unarmed vs armed techniques you have, to display a more self defense idea in order to better justify these teachings. Either way, great video. Real cool.

  • @sputnikdx Thank you for taking the time to express your concerns in a very respectful manner. In these youtube videos we tend to make the moments a bit bigger and more expressive than we do in class, just to make it more enjoyable to watch and a little easier to follow. Also, the "feeder" tends to stand very still we we are filming, as we are moving full speed. In class we spend a lot of time working against non-static opponents, unfortunately, it just doesn't look as clean on film.

  • @LibreFighting This is very true. It's so hard to film in a manner that really reflects your true intent. If your too combat oriented in video, the untrained person will not understand. On anther note training is always done in a progressive manner and understanding the technique always comes before we can train with resistance.

  • @LibreFighting do you prefer a fixed blade or folding? just curious.

  • @Grunt922 If I knew I was going into a fight, a fixed blade. It's sturdier and faster to deploy. But there are all kinds of issues that come with carrying one. It will freak people out, law enforcement will always take a closer look at you, they are more awkward to carry, and if you ever have to defend yourself with one it's going to be an uphill battle convincing a jury you weren't looking for trouble. So for everyday use, a folding knife with a good solid locking mechanism is the way to go.

  • @LibreFighting you make a good point about the fixed blade giving you trouble in court... what are some manufacturers that make the best folding blades?

  • @sputnikdx

you are having a laugh aren`t you.

  • @sputnikdx More artistic? Libre is pure function. Can you clarify this statement "hardly any of these moves would be smart to perform....." Why do you consider unarmed vs armed "self-defense?" Unarmed vs armed means time to kiss your wife, kids and ass goodbye. Unarmed vs. armed is not self-defense, it is pure fantasy. In combatives "the situation demands the action." Clearly an assailant with a knife demands equal or greater force to stop, if escape is impossible.

  • @sputnikdx Even if an assault begins with out a weapon; your empty hand techniques and tactics are used so that you can fight your way to your weapon. Gun, knife, whatever you carry!! Teaching anything else is completely irresponsible and in my mind borders on criminal! That empty hand vs. weapon shit will get you killed on the street. Look at guys like Itay Gil from Israel. Knife attacker (he blasts in the face) breaks contact and shoots him to the ground that is real! And so is Libre.

  • I have been in the martial arts almost all my life and I know how to defend my self. But your system is fresh. I would look into adding a few low kicks, jujisu or akido throws from stand up. Wish we could train together but I'm broke and married with children.

  • is libre an art or is it just his gym?

  • I would appreciate a response from the uploader. Would you guys use these techniques in real scenarios? It seems like you're specifically going for major arteries and are doing moves to kill, not injure. If some drunk comes at you with a knife would you actually cut him and finish your moves with a slice to the throat or a stab to the lower neck, along with artery cuts? It seems like overkill and almost an execution. The courts could easily turn things against you if you're pleading self defense

  • @BrandonEclipse when someone tries to kill you, i.e. comes at you with a knife, you kill them. that is the most humane and legally defensible course of action. if you simply disable someone you may end up sued later, or the jury may decide that you were skilled enough to have just walked away. to kill implies that you had no other choice, which is the truth when your safety or that of others is on the line. attacking to wound is purely idiotic and the idea of it is something left to liberals.

  • Wow, this truly is an art.

  • In short, after training with us, the last thing someone would ever WANT to do is use a knife on someone. However, if they are forced into that position, they will do what needs to be done as quickly and efficiently as possible. As the old saying goes, "Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6."

  • i'll tell you something, and this isn't some "armchair warrior" talk. I use love making, collecting, practicing with weapons. i use to shadow strike with the original fixed blade buck hunting knife. on dec 6 at 3:00 am in the morning, me and my friend were jumped by a group of people. They beat up my friend, kicking him on the ground, i stabbed one of them twice and ran to use my cell phone. I'm now facing an aggrevated assault charge. I most likely will get time. -$10g's.don't playwith knives

  • @LibreFighting You damn right! LOL I feel ya!

  • For the record, we spend a lot of time in class covering the moral, psychological and legal ramifications or using lethal force in class. All of our students are educated in the laws pertaining to carrying blades and using lethal force. They are also shown picture of real knife wounds, so they can see the dangers or what they would be facing in confronting an armed opponent as well as understanding the horror or the wounds they would be inflicting.

  • @LibreFighting The technique looks clean, however I'd use eye protection when practicing with the training devices. The knife training is scary, some of those cuts I would imagine would get you grilled in a courtroom, even if legally defensible. However, I admit they could possible save your life.

  • This WILL either get you killed, or have you kill another human, and face horrific emotional, moral, and civil consequences. To put it straight, if you lose you die. If you win, 99% you've broken the law and will spend the rest of your life in prison for murder. So you still lose. Best think to do: Run like hell. Don't give me any what-ifs. What-ifs are excuses you make because you WANT to fight. If you put yourself in situation where you have no choice at all, then it's your fault.

  • LOL what happens if you dont want to kill with the knife???

  • Very nice. Where is the origin of this fighting style? Its lookslike the most realistic knife strike ever in MA training that I have seen.

  • These knife moves are killing moves. Knife training like that is training to murder someone. This is not self defense, and you would go to jail for a very long time if you killed someone "defending" yourself. Knives can be deadlier then a gun. A long slice up the body will open many blood vessels and a slash the to inside of a thigh can sever the femoral artery and cause death in minutes. I would never "defend" myself by attempting to kill my attacker. Disabling is preferred to murder. My $.02

  • @CypherVirus I'd like to point this out. If someone is trying to kill me, he is attacking my child. If I die over half the household income is lost, the rent can't be paid and she has to live in worse area, money doesn't get put back for her college, the amount and quality of food on the table goes down, and I'm not there to protect her. If someone wants to punch me, I'll let him if I think it'll end the problem. If I feel there's any risk to my daughter, I'm putting him in the ground.

  • superb

  • wow the practice knife looks shiny.......i sure hope it's not the real deal tho.

  • One word... two syllables = badass

  • Heehee The guy just killed another guy with a hat. ^_^

  • Awesome video and I'm sure this has to do more with the fighting style, but I feel like this is too lethal of a technique for real life if that makes sense... Disabling and disarming seems more useful like ASP.

  • This is great! 1:28 is SICK!!

  • I like the knife work...

  • Very interesting video. Keep up the godo work guys.

Feel free to drop by our page as well, we've got plenty of martial arts videos up and tons more coming soon.

    Thanks!

  • I wanted to get clases of this in Madrid but there are BARELY practicionares of Kali..but when I ran onto this video my jaw just dropped

    uberness O_O

  • The bloopers must have been hilarious.

  • My Bulbasaur could take 'em.

  • song is "city" by hollywood undead

  • wat song is that

  • All targets are fair game.

  • 0:23 WTF... kinda not cool to cut in that area.

  • 1:20 was so badass

  • Very cool video. I don't like keyboard experts, so i won't comment one way or the other on the moves/flow/blocks. But the presentation and the song were sick. pretty much gave me a hard on. @LibreFighting I live in boston but one of my best friends is in Oceanside and now and again i get to SD, do you guys do trial classes? I would love to drop in for one some time....

  • very pretty

  • The targets & flow are impressive, the defenses are weak at best.nobody will keep the knife hand still..just because you touched it!!

  • I assume you're talking about checking the weapon hand on the initial movement, right? When checking at the shoulder, for example, its a hard stop to the brachial plexus, its not designed to stop the arm but to pause it for a second. You'll notice they've moved completely offline after the check and cut at least one vital target. After that they're free to keep moving while the other person its trying to play catch up and lossing conciousness.

  • those chicks are brutal

  • yes this is kali. can anyone tell me it's called a libre system?

  • Now this is what u call realistic training people are not rushing in from 5 meters with a attack

very nice job if i didint live in amsterdam i would join ur training for sure

  • what is the name of this song?

  • It's called "City", by Hollywood Undead.

  • Good Flow...Im diggin it!!

  • That was pretty damn impressive stuff.

  • Finally a video with women fighting! I was beginning to think I was alone in representing the female population.

Great video! I wish I lived in Cali just so I could train with you guys. Keep up the good work!

  • We have some VERY dangerous females in our class. :)

  • @prezjackie doubt it

  • i'm guna try and take some classes with you in the summer. i'd be honored to train with any of you at libre fighting. i've been doing stuff on my own but nothing with that kind of professional technique. keep up the good work.

  • This looks brutal!

  • This guy is no joke. He is a rare combination: Great Fighter, Technician and Teacher...and very nice guy! If you have a chance to train with him...DO!

  • mabuhay!

  • I am not a 52 expert. I have done a lot of research into 52, and what I have learned has definitely influenced our empty hand training. I wrote a blog about it. There is a link on our youtube home page.

I have been following Piper for quite a while now, and I am blown away by what you guys are doing. I would love to meet up with you guys someday. I'd really like to learn all I can about Piper.

  • BTW. Am I seeing some jail house rock/52 blocks in thier? 1:24-1:26??

  • Hey guys I'm a long time FMA guy! Now a Piper soldier! You guys are a breath of fresh air...technique is superb! intent is right on! Congrats to you! Hope we can all meet up some day.

  • You move very, very well. Wow! It looks effective as hell to me. I was especially impressed by the street fighting empty hand applications at around 1m20s in the clip. Is that some 52?

Nigel would eat that up ;) He loves that kind of thing.

  • nice work do you have dvds!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice work do you have any dvds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
