To everyone saying he is saying 'terrible' he is not. Hes saying 'INCREDIBLE'!!1!1!11!!!1!!!! Theyve been on this show like 3 times of course he doesnt think they are terrible....
@skidooshbag Wow, I totally respect that your taste in music has changed, and you find yourself not believing you listened to and enjoyed such a band at one point. But some of us can see past just what is actually being played. We can absorb the musical content. The message, if you will. And that is as strong in Bloc Party as when SA first came out, stronger even. But my point is we all have our musical opinions, that is irrelevant. But why the fuck did you have to bring up 9/11????
@skidooshbag delete your comments bro. And I don't know what these people expected from a dick named skidooshbag. And what's that about you not believing you liked Bloc Party? Runescape nerds? in two comments? wtf dude. you got issues. Just don't expect to bash on Bloc Party or any of it's members and come out untouched.
and the vocal at 1:31 was like a fork scratching a plate, ow!, but anyhow who cares, your my favourite band, and you will definately be played to my future kids one day:).
notice how at 0:13 that keyboard sound is missing that is on the album version. I put it down to the fact that because they made their album electronica some stuff recorded can't be played live because it was artificial.
@kooldaug its because gordon plays the bass in the intro part, and its too quick a transition for him to straight away pick up the sticks for the glockenspiel so he just leaves it for the first few bars before coming in.
Maybe he just doesnt say terrible. I think its just the beginning of a further sentence or word, so dont missunderstand it. Later... is on of the best, if not the best music show on TV out there
Maybe he just doesnt say terrible. I think its just the beginning of a further sentence or word, so dont missunderstand it. Later... is on of the best, if not the best music show on TV
iv u read wot a said am asking iv any1 heard jools holland say terrible right at the end i think bloc party hav been the best oringal band out there since 2005 and is a massive fan
What is the picking style Russell uses during the chorus? I can only really do down-picking unless I'm playing a tremolo bit on a single string. But in some Bloc Party songs the power chords require really fast picking which can get tiring if I'm just using down-picking. So I guess I just want to know if there's an easier way.
@cwulffy See how he's casually strumming up and down? I just can't get that to sound good. It's alright when I strum down, but when I come back up my pick sometimes gets stuck on the strings and it just isn't smooth.
@RussellThePumpkin oh i thought of something else, cuz you mean strumming more. when you're strumming power chords its easier to use a thin pick cuz it bends easier. also make sure you curve ur wrist outward when you strum up
@cwulffy Thanks for the help. I've been playing for around 8 months. I have been practicing just strumming up and down quite a bit so I am improving. I think the main problem is that I haven't quite found a comfortable wrist position. But once I get that I think I'll be good. Another problem I have found is muting the low E string and strumming can be difficult. But I'm sure I'll get it with practice. Thanks for the help. :]
@RussellThePumpkin you must learn to alternate pick. That means picking the strings down AND up. It takes time getting used to at first, but you get the hang of it the more you do it. Force yourself to do it and you'll see how much easier it is to play the songs you love.
I find that for bands this good, for some reason, I can never pay attention to the lyrics my first few times listening to a song. Eventually I'll listen to them, but being a musician myself, it fascinates me what choices these guys make.
They definitely developed their sound more with the intimacy album. For me, its very original and like nothing i've ever heard. I hope they keep it up for the next album.
And honestly, for everyone that keeps attacking them, you must honestly know NOTHING about music if you think what they're doing is "easy". Sure you can play one of their riffs, but are you the first to write it? Writing music is very different from just playing it.
At first I hated everything about Intimacy, but then I realized as musicians it must be boring to play the same old thing over and over. Now I actually think Intimacy is a great album, for the most part.
Music doesn't have to be played fast, and it doesn't haven't to be complicated to be good. Bloc party are amazing at what they do. Their music may be easy to play but it sure couldn't have been easy to write and it sounds great.
i mean i like pete doherty. hes not a great guitar player but he does it in his own style and his songwriting ability and charm just come together brilliantly
I agree. Personally I think their songs are pretty advanced particularly Matt's drums and the way both guitar lines compliment each other. When I said they were easy I was responding to samnninty's comment. I meant he may think they are easy but that does not mean they are bad. Know what I mean? :D
Gordon is so key to Bloc Party and their style... he may not always play the bass as you mentioned... but he is always doing something that is sooo key to the song...
gordon can play more instruments than anyone else in bloc party. He is a key part to the band. Actually when you think about it, everyone in the band sticks out so much on their own. U got Russell:imaginative/effects/delay master, Kele:Unique voice, Matt:AMAZING drummer/Great voice, and Gordon:Great unique voice/amazing bass player/knowledgeable of many instruments. They're all lucky to have each other hahaha.
i don't think its neccessarily about AIDS, but about contracting a STD. think about what he's saying that pretty much gives it away: "I cannont say that i was not warned or was misled" well the girl must have been a slut/ one night stand, someone who he really saw as easy. "claimed all my lovers" they're getting it too. "i didn't think i'd catch fire when i held my hand to the flame" well he was being niave, probably not wearing a condom too.
you're right, it's not his best live performance, still not bad though :-) but he can do much better. 10 hours till i see them live.. hope he will be in good form just like russel, matt and gordon :D
anyway, awesome song. better than studio version in my opinion, even if he's missing some notes. it's more exciting live ;-)
i love this song on the album but live im not to sure. because it missed the drums out at the begining and it sounded like the instrement had been turned down, it lost the whole tension realeasing explosion that makes me smile every time i hear it
this album and the last were a big let down. silent alarm was there masterpiece. kele's voice has so much work done to it in the studio it's hard to appreciate them live
wtf weekend in the city was amazing!!!!!! and the new one is wickedddd aswell new directions!! i think to some extent a weekend is better than silent alarm!
I actually didn't like a weekend in the city so much, to much trip hop for me to handle, but I give them credits for amazing songs like song for clay, hunting for witches and the prayer.. the rest I just can't swallow
but it differs really whether you like noise of relaxed songs.. I love silent alarm's noise, that album was synchronized chaos, and that made me fall in love with bloc party, and I still am =D
They have progressed from silent alarm which is why some people don't like them. Sure, 2 more albums like silent alarm would have been amazing, but progression in music is so important. Kele is always saying that.
Some people react bad after listening this album because they usually hear bands that maintain the structure. However Bloc Party are always inovating and that's why they are the best
this whole album sounds so much better on cd, it's hard to get the production quality imbued into the live performance. love the album though, was a massive relief aftr the shitty second one
Gotta agree. Its not just that its not a very hard song, they just looked bored. And it doesn't help that Kele can't really hit any of the high notes in the chorus outside of the studio.
bloc party dont really have a powerfull performance, and to be honest there not too great live. dont get me wrong, the're still one of my favorite bands.
No way in hell. I'm also quite fond of them and I do love their music, but when it comes to live performances, they lack the stability and vocal powers to deliver. Still, I'm going to see them live in Finland on 26.02 :D
Radiohead and Bloc Party are both great bands and obviously Greenwood and Lissack are both awesome on guitar. Why must people say one is better than the other. It's a matter of opinion. I happen to love both with a passion. Why can't some of you tools seperate both bands music as it's own, even if one is influenced by the other? They are both GREAT!
if you dont get there concepts dont listen to them, but dont complain, all their albums are class and intimacy for me is they're best one..furthermore anyone who loves music will realise u can't produce the same monotonous riffs all the time you grow as an artist
i have to disagree there and say your chattin utter shit! just because u can't fink out of the box and need several play throughs to grasp exactly what they're singin and playing about. the bloc have always made thought provoking musical, very much off the wall and have successful detatched themselves from the indie box, silent alarm put on them. i believe the first album was compromised in many way but as evidence has shown they had more ideas other than guitars bass n drums
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The new stuff has no spark to it. You could tell they were running out of steam on the second album. Annoying cos silent alarm was one of the best albums of the decade

bloc party dont really have a powerfull performance, and to be honest there not too great live. dont get me wrong, the're still one of my favorite bands.

Eh, this really wasn't one of their best live performances at all, but Bloc Party is probably one of the best live bands out there, in my opinion.

They are both GREAT!

if you dont get there concepts dont listen to them, but dont complain, all their albums are class and intimacy for me is they're best one..furthermore anyone who loves music will realise u can't produce the same monotonous riffs all the time you grow as an artist

both intimacy and weekend in the city are my favourite albums by these very talented people, silent alarm lacks the depth of the others for me

Agree 100000%
I'm very suspicious of people's music tastes when they say they hate AWITC

i have to disagree there and say your chattin utter shit! just because u can't fink out of the box and need several play throughs to grasp exactly what they're singin and playing about. the bloc have always made thought provoking musical, very much off the wall and have successful detatched themselves from the indie box, silent alarm put on them. i believe the first album was compromised in many way but as evidence has shown they had more ideas other than guitars bass n drums

This comment has received too many negative votes show
The new stuff has no spark to it. You could tell they were running out of steam on the second album. Annoying cos silent alarm was one of the best albums of the decade
