  • To everyone saying he is saying 'terrible' he is not. Hes saying 'INCREDIBLE'!!1!1!11!!!1!!!! Theyve been on this show like 3 times of course he doesnt think they are terrible....

  • riff in the second verse sounds very very prayerish.

  • Intimacy > Silent Alarm > Weekend In The City

They're still all awesome albums, I just hate people preaching to me that Silent Alarm is the best. Bloc Party is all about evolution.

  • @skidooshbag Dummy!!!!

  • @skidooshbag your being a real Dildo!

  • Comment removed

  • @skidooshbag Wow, I totally respect that your taste in music has changed, and you find yourself not believing you listened to and enjoyed such a band at one point. But some of us can see past just what is actually being played. We can absorb the musical content. The message, if you will. And that is as strong in Bloc Party as when SA first came out, stronger even. But my point is we all have our musical opinions, that is irrelevant. But why the fuck did you have to bring up 9/11????

  • Comment removed

  • @skidooshbag delete your comments bro. And I don't know what these people expected from a dick named skidooshbag. And what's that about you not believing you liked Bloc Party? Runescape nerds? in two comments? wtf dude. you got issues. Just don't expect to bash on Bloc Party or any of it's members and come out untouched.

  • @punkrockedlastnight deleted them, totally forgot i even commented on this video

  • I liked the part when bloc party were together.

  • Russel is fantastic. And his fingers still intrigue me.

  • and the vocal at 1:31 was like a fork scratching a plate, ow!, but anyhow who cares, your my favourite band, and you will definately be played to my future kids one day:).

  • notice how at 0:13 that keyboard sound is missing that is on the album version. I put it down to the fact that because they made their album electronica some stuff recorded can't be played live because it was artificial.

  • @kooldaug its because gordon plays the bass in the intro part, and its too quick a transition for him to straight away pick up the sticks for the glockenspiel so he just leaves it for the first few bars before coming in.

  • @skidooshbag Thats your opinion but not everybodys -.-

  • SUCH A SLUT!

  • Dirt 2 Soundtrack !!!

  • I MISS THIS KELE

    NOT THE AMERICAN-GAY ONE

  • @chompa12 harsh dude..... harsh.

  • excellent

  • YEAH HE SAID INCREDIBLE

  • Maybe he just doesnt say terrible. I think its just the beginning of a further sentence or word, so dont missunderstand it. Later... is on of the best, if not the best music show on TV

  • epicnesssssssssssssssssss

  • Dirt2 Soundtrack \o/

  • @tcelestino Guys like you have no idea -.-

  • amazingly good.

  • I audio analysed it by seperating the layers of sound and he said terrible

  • He said "terrible" at the end? Really? That's unbelievable. If he actually said that, he should be lynched.

  • BBC HD - Best Bloc Party HD!

  • what a faggot!!!

    3:59 "terrible"...your mother is terrible!

    Bloc party is awesome!

  • iv u read wot a said am asking iv any1 heard jools holland say terrible right at the end i think bloc party hav been the best oringal band out there since 2005 and is a massive fan

  • agreed best oringal band since 2005 and russell is a legend

  • @daniel9363 He said incredible.

  • can anybody tell me iv jools holland says terrible at the end

  • @mchiggy19 He say's Talons, it can be easily misheard =)

  • Awesome!

I love this one, specially live!

  • SO GOOD.

  • what was the guitar effect used by russell at 0:40 to 0:52? would really appreciate it if someone could help me on this.

  • @apabolebuat Wah Wah

  • RussellThePumpkin: Don't cut corners. Just start slow and go for accuracy and then speed.

nastygranny09: I agree. he really is a talented guitarist. The second verse is one of my favorite riffs of all time.

  • What is the picking style Russell uses during the chorus? I can only really do down-picking unless I'm playing a tremolo bit on a single string. But in some Bloc Party songs the power chords require really fast picking which can get tiring if I'm just using down-picking. So I guess I just want to know if there's an easier way.

  • @RussellThePumpkin can u be more specific? i might be able to help out

  • @cwulffy See how he's casually strumming up and down? I just can't get that to sound good. It's alright when I strum down, but when I come back up my pick sometimes gets stuck on the strings and it just isn't smooth.

  • @RussellThePumpkin are you muting all of your notes? how long have u been playing? usually it takes a little practice before you get it perfect

  • @RussellThePumpkin oh i thought of something else, cuz you mean strumming more. when you're strumming power chords its easier to use a thin pick cuz it bends easier. also make sure you curve ur wrist outward when you strum up

  • @cwulffy Thanks for the help. I've been playing for around 8 months. I have been practicing just strumming up and down quite a bit so I am improving. I think the main problem is that I haven't quite found a comfortable wrist position. But once I get that I think I'll be good. Another problem I have found is muting the low E string and strumming can be difficult. But I'm sure I'll get it with practice. Thanks for the help. :]

  • @RussellThePumpkin you must learn to alternate pick. That means picking the strings down AND up. It takes time getting used to at first, but you get the hang of it the more you do it. Force yourself to do it and you'll see how much easier it is to play the songs you love.

  • @bloc22 Thanks dude, but I wrote that, like, 8 months ago, so I can comfortably alternate pick and strum now.

  • @RussellThePumpkin said it just in case lol

  • @bloc22 Hopefully it will help someone else. :)

  • @RussellThePumpkin true. Passing guitar playing knowledge FTW haha

  • its a glockenspiel and thats the bassist Gordon Moakes.

  • the dude on the xylophone is good

  • i lov them and who ever thinks they suck then kiss my ass.....they rock and the song is soo fucken good XD

    i leson 2 it everyday

  • the guitarrist looks like Johnny Greenwood and the bass player of Blur

  • Great live performance!

    Love em'!

  • o som é legal to tentando tirar no violão esse video vai ajudar muito. xD (Cade os brasileiros -.-') aff naum entendo metade do q escrevem =P

  • sick song, listen to Shiver and Shake by The Cure, you can really hear the influence on kele's vocals =D

  • Lmao @ 0:26 Gordon with the Xylephone, XD

  • thats a glockenspiel

  • Wonderful, it's just out of place, was all I was refering to....Not to seem like an asshole or anything...>.> -Cough-, -Cough-

  • your mums a glockenspiel

  • Never heard Signs?

  • This band really amazes me, dey r quite unique.

  • I find that for bands this good, for some reason, I can never pay attention to the lyrics my first few times listening to a song. Eventually I'll listen to them, but being a musician myself, it fascinates me what choices these guys make.

  • wow. 3:10 he hit that really well. i didn't see it coming.

    there music is genius.

and if you think it's easy, study some music theory. you'll understand why they made it.

  • They definitely developed their sound more with the intimacy album. For me, its very original and like nothing i've ever heard. I hope they keep it up for the next album.

And honestly, for everyone that keeps attacking them, you must honestly know NOTHING about music if you think what they're doing is "easy". Sure you can play one of their riffs, but are you the first to write it? Writing music is very different from just playing it.

  • the killers are kids next to Bloc Party.

  • I love this band more than life itself.

  • this band fucking rules.

the guitar on the second verse is soooooo good.

  • i kno! that guitar in that verse is pure genious when the glockenspiel comes in

  • At first I hated everything about Intimacy, but then I realized as musicians it must be boring to play the same old thing over and over. Now I actually think Intimacy is a great album, for the most part.

  • 1.talons

    2.flux

    3.mercury

    4.the prayer

    5.banquet

  • i really love how different they are. you never know what to expect from them.

  • hehe kele is so pwnage he is wearing a fking rain jacket lawl

  • its just a sports jacket

  • I just love the way he says "I was looking the other way-a-ay."

  • pfft

it obviosly takes some skill you fool

  • lol, i love how people say things like that, lets see you start a band and see how well you do.. if it 'takes no skill'

  • No no

    they have good songwriting talent

but just solos like that dont take much skill

  • Music doesn't have to be played fast, and it doesn't haven't to be complicated to be good. Bloc party are amazing at what they do. Their music may be easy to play but it sure couldn't have been easy to write and it sounds great.

  • i totally agree with you mate!

i mean i like pete doherty. hes not a great guitar player but he does it in his own style and his songwriting ability and charm just come together brilliantly

  • its not at all easy to play..specially other songs, and matt tong's drumming is incredible

  • I agree. Personally I think their songs are pretty advanced particularly Matt's drums and the way both guitar lines compliment each other. When I said they were easy I was responding to samnninty's comment. I meant he may think they are easy but that does not mean they are bad. Know what I mean? :D

  • lol ye sure but they are genius 2

  • @kmg12

for example the beatles or rage against the machine,no complex riffs or drum beats there and yet legendry bands.

  • well a bit weird to compare the great beatles with rage against the machine but i agree with you!

  • ah now...tom morello had some pretty tough riffs

  • live version sounds WAY better than the studio track...

  • and of course guitarist of Bloc Party is one of the best too!

  • Greenwood the best guitarst ever, and Radiohead the fucking greatest musician ever lived in the Planet!!

  • jimi hendrix, john squire, johnny marr :)

listen to them and realise you've done wrong :)

  • his vocals are amazing

  • any1 no wot this songs about? i think the lyrisc are really good, but u dont no the subject of it.

  • as far as Im aware its about HIV when you listen to the lyrics it does make sense

  • HIV? lol

  • whos that at 2:55?

  • KEANE... :D

  • one of keanes assholes

  • yes!

  • i swear gordon is scared of his bass. he never plays it

  • Gordon is so key to Bloc Party and their style... he may not always play the bass as you mentioned... but he is always doing something that is sooo key to the song...

  • gordon can play more instruments than anyone else in bloc party. He is a key part to the band. Actually when you think about it, everyone in the band sticks out so much on their own. U got Russell:imaginative/effects/delay master, Kele:Unique voice, Matt:AMAZING drummer/Great voice, and Gordon:Great unique voice/amazing bass player/knowledgeable of many instruments. They're all lucky to have each other hahaha.

  • Yeah, you're right. Bloc Party has a brilliant combination. It's what makes them so fucking amazing!

  • Silent alarm is the best album they have ever done by far. And I think intimacy next then weekend but its close between those

  • 1. intimacy

    2. silent alarm

    3. weekend in the city

But the most important album of course, is silent alarm

  • I love this band.

  • No es de mis favoritas pero me gusta la canción.

  • KEANE

  • great performance

  • Amazing lyrics, amazing song, amazing performance... just fucking amazing!

  • hahaha does matt have a moe?

  • Especially Kele's guitar part in the main chorus, that is just so tight.

  • The live version is so much better it's unbelievable that it wasn't like this on the record...

  • What effect is giving that nice distorted/muffled/sharp effect at 0:43

  • i think he just has a slight wah effect going on his boss pedal and he is just scracthing/palm muting the note whilst adjusting the level

  • I think most people would say hes using a delay with a wah

  • Its a filter pedal. He has a really expensive one on his pedalboard

  • god there so fucking good...BLOC PARTY RULE

  • @crysisclc agreed

  • what pedal is russell using at 2:45?

  • probably a delay of some sort. his set up has like 8 of them. Look at his wiki.

  • i love russels arppeggios!

  • this is a great song but it sounds so much better with a massive crowd behind it unlike on this show

  • oh god...my unfulfilled dream...i havent seen them live...YET:) i simply cant die before i do that

  • so is this about aids an if so why ?

  • i don't think its neccessarily about AIDS, but about contracting a STD. think about what he's saying that pretty much gives it away: "I cannont say that i was not warned or was misled" well the girl must have been a slut/ one night stand, someone who he really saw as easy. "claimed all my lovers" they're getting it too. "i didn't think i'd catch fire when i held my hand to the flame" well he was being niave, probably not wearing a condom too.
  • you're right, it's not his best live performance, still not bad though :-) but he can do much better. 10 hours till i see them live.. hope he will be in good form just like russel, matt and gordon :D

anyway, awesome song. better than studio version in my opinion, even if he's missing some notes. it's more exciting live ;-)

  • This is good. Studio better tho.

but is it just me or is kele missing some of the notes ? singing ?

  • this is goooood stuff

  • since when did matt wear polos???

  • since he decided that taking his shirt off was only cool during gigs, not on tv.

  • i love this song on the album but live im not to sure. because it missed the drums out at the begining and it sounded like the instrement had been turned down, it lost the whole tension realeasing explosion that makes me smile every time i hear it

  • amazing performance

  • this album and the last were a big let down. silent alarm was there masterpiece. kele's voice has so much work done to it in the studio it's hard to appreciate them live

  • wtf weekend in the city was amazing!!!!!! and the new one is wickedddd aswell new directions!! i think to some extent a weekend is better than silent alarm!

  • I actually didn't like a weekend in the city so much, to much trip hop for me to handle, but I give them credits for amazing songs like song for clay, hunting for witches and the prayer.. the rest I just can't swallow

but it differs really whether you like noise of relaxed songs.. I love silent alarm's noise, that album was synchronized chaos, and that made me fall in love with bloc party, and I still am =D

    TALONS WHAT A GREAT SONG!

  • They have progressed from silent alarm which is why some people don't like them. Sure, 2 more albums like silent alarm would have been amazing, but progression in music is so important. Kele is always saying that.

Intimacy is legendary and a future classic.

  • So true. All 3 albums are so different which I think is always the sign of a great band! Can't wait to see them tonight!

  • Some people react bad after listening this album because they usually hear bands that maintain the structure. However Bloc Party are always inovating and that's why they are the best

    BLOC PARTY!!!

  • YES THATS WHY THEIR AN EXCELLENT BAND

  • i love bands that improvise man. agreed..

  • Specially them :D

Sorry to ask did you already seen signs live or even better than heaven?Awesome

  • this whole album sounds so much better on cd, it's hard to get the production quality imbued into the live performance. love the album though, was a massive relief aftr the shitty second one

  • they didnt seem very alive in this

  • it's not a particularly lively song.

  • how can you say that!!

  • cos its quiet.....for like all of it except the chorus..its difficult to be lively with a glockenspiel

  • Gotta agree. Its not just that its not a very hard song, they just looked bored. And it doesn't help that Kele can't really hit any of the high notes in the chorus outside of the studio.

  • bloc party dont really have a powerfull performance, and to be honest there not too great live. dont get me wrong, the're still one of my favorite bands.

  • Eh, this really wasn't one of their best live performances at all, but Bloc Party is probably one of the best live bands out there, in my opinion.

  • No way in hell. I'm also quite fond of them and I do love their music, but when it comes to live performances, they lack the stability and vocal powers to deliver. Still, I'm going to see them live in Finland on 26.02 :D

  • Radiohead and Bloc Party are both great bands and obviously Greenwood and Lissack are both awesome on guitar. Why must people say one is better than the other. It's a matter of opinion. I happen to love both with a passion. Why can't some of you tools seperate both bands music as it's own, even if one is influenced by the other? They are both GREAT!

  • this song wasn't produced to be played live kele even admitted it

  • if you dont get there concepts dont listen to them, but dont complain, all their albums are class and intimacy for me is they're best one..furthermore anyone who loves music will realise u can't produce the same monotonous riffs all the time you grow as an artist

  • Nice said man, thank you!

  • well said man

both intimacy and weekend in the city are my favourite albums by these very talented people, silent alarm lacks the depth of the others for me

  • Agree 100000%

I'm very suspicious of people's music tastes when they say they hate AWITC

  • I agree. Weekend is my favourite album of all time.

  • fuck yes

  • fuck yes

  • there all amazing albums

  • i have to disagree there and say your chattin utter shit! just because u can't fink out of the box and need several play throughs to grasp exactly what they're singin and playing about. the bloc have always made thought provoking musical, very much off the wall and have successful detatched themselves from the indie box, silent alarm put on them. i believe the first album was compromised in many way but as evidence has shown they had more ideas other than guitars bass n drums
