  • As a hockey fan this brings tears to my eyes...

  • Out of the ashes...champions rise and conquer

  • 1:55 thinking.."whoa..........fuck yeah guys....fuckin ay"

  • Comment removed

  • I think this is one of the greatest speeches i have ever seen...Herb took a bunch of young college kids and made them feel that this game is worth everything they worked for. He inspired those kids to forget the outside world and beleive in themselves while saying that oppurtunities rarely come around...he gave them the confidence to beleive they could defeat anyone..and they in fact were the greatest hockey team in the world...brings me tears when i see them walking out of the tunnel =(

  • 13 Communists Disliked this

  • Mike Eruzione, Paul Henderson...Heroes Both! Canada in '72 and USA in '80. Both were EPIC moments for Western Ice Hockey. As a pee wee hoeckey player at the time of the 80's and gorwing up in a hockey household I knew both names :)

My father and I watched the Canada games when i was five and all I knew was the russians had to beaten and I cheered for the Canadians too...but to see my country do this as well and in the Olympics as a kid was the greatest moment ever in sports for me :)

  • @eclipsesf1racer HEY ! i will never trade the century series the canada won against the soviet's in 1972 with a goal of Paul Henderson with only 34 seconds left in moscow for tie the game and won the series with the cummulative of goals and points. The Miracle on ice is unbelivable but the century series against the russian was 8 game with a big intensity. Hockey is CANADA GAME. Go on youtube and write Paul Henderson he is a Nationale hero in canada. Eruzione is not a Nationale hero in USA !!!

  • @SkippyNHL Eruzione, I believe, is a national hero. He never had a NHL career like Henderson. He just had the miracle on ice. But that summit series in 72. Great hockey right there. I think more people in Canada know Paul Henderson more than the Prime Minister himself!

  • @alexparise1If Irrelevant. I'm assuming your like 12. This group of COLLEGE kids (no professionals like now) persevered through thick and thin and in a time of conflict against the Soviet Union (Cold War) just makes this Gold Medal so much sweeter than any other victory Canada has had. I wouldn't trade the 1980 Gold Medal for any Gold Medal in the world. Go USA.

  • this speech made me win the championship. it inspired me, it was basketball but still inspired me

  • usa sucks

  • GO BRUINS

  • Screw the bruins!!!!!

  • My favorite part of that speech is Rizzo's face when Brooks says "tonight. WE are the greatest hockey team in the world." I would give anything to be in that locker room to hear that one speech. In the next winter olympics, the U.S. will win the gold.

  • GO BRUINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @alexparise1 lmao did you just watch the olympics? we beaet you then you beat us in overtime. have some class.

  • he's got a great pair of slacks on

  • Awesome, Swedish subtitles

  • the kids one is better! LOOL!

  • Jackie O'Callahan is my boy

  • @zippy476 United states of America

  • Who do you play for?

  • what a freaking speech. chills...

  • we need another Team USA the country was in shambles back then. then came along these guys, then Reagan, then all was great again, we need something to bring America together again & another great leader, Obama gotta go

  • @bobmac1973 oh god, yes because we all know Reagan ended the cold war........

  • @bobmac1973 check out Head of the State - Baracka Flocka Flame. that shit's funny.

  • @bobmac1973 Obama has nothing to do with it. You're an idiot and a disgrace as a hockey fan.

  • @bobmac1973 too bad you have to play Canada for the gold now eh?

  • The only regret I have is not being alive to be able to watch this for myself.

  • love it

  • 12 russians have watched this video...

  • I was much too young to remember landing on the moon...I was two at the time.

I was 13 when this occured...I watched every game on TV..ABC I think it was...I burned through two copies of Miracle on ICE on VHS....but I remember these games and I will never forget this game as long as I live...never was i so proud of being a hockey player and fan...and

Never was I more proud of my country as I was with this moment.

  • who are the 12 idiots who disliked this? lol suck it

  • Just got goose bumps at the part where they're walking by the telegraphs. Gonna have to dig this movie out next time I'm at my parents place.

  • the 12 people that dislike this were 12 of the 18 Soviets that lost the game.

  • I played hockey and when we went into tournaments some of the best moments in the game was getting out there showing off getting the lead over the other team and then finally winning

  • Hey! Im a Russian and I still like this, even though it was against us. Ебаьт.

  • This is the greatest sports speech and scene in a sports movie ever!!!!!

  • 1:57..(thinking) FUCK YEAH!

  • I am an Indian Guy , but i still get goosebumps watching this :))

  • i didnt know so many hairs could stand up on my body...

  • underrated movie

  • Hearing this brought me back to that AWESOME GREAT GAME between Canada vs USA this past winter olympics....

we were so close.... Our time will come again 2014...

    USA

  • respect from canada

  • Ach seht euch die Amis an, klammern sich an kindische Reminiszenzen.

  • LETS GO RED WINGS!!! Oh.... sorry.

  • 9 people are soviets...screw 'em!

  • 9 commies

  • 9 russians disliked this video

  • What is this speech called again?

  • @2011TheRealDealBrah herb brooks speech?

  • I will admit that im not that into Hockey, but this is by far one of my most favorite sports movies ever. Other than Remember the Titans.

  • I live in Lake Placid, and its kinda funny how the rink looks in this movie. It looks NOTHING like that on the inside :)

  • well, i just popped wood. goodnite everybody

  • I don't underdstand, why did he pick a bunch of kids (college players?) instead of older guys, bigger and so on? I would if i were the coach.

Anyway, great job from herb and the guys on the team. I wonder how the russians feel, being beaten by a bunch of really young players.

Good work USA! You beat those com bastards!

  • @DIFFORALLTID

Because he knew what he was doing. He obviously did it right.

  • @Iluvseabs7

Yeah, obviously he did :) But i mean, did he do it on purpose or what?

  • @DIFFORALLTID

oh yeah haha sorry. i think so?

  • @DIFFORALLTID The US didn't start sending pros to the Olympics until the 1990s.

  • @alex77colts

    Aha okey, thank u :)

  • fuck america they dont play hockey they eat cheeseburgers and watch baseball

  • @davies2fittyf ok ignorance. We actually watch football not baseball. and we are actually the most athletic country in the world.

  • @davies2fittyf

FUCK OFF BITCH, WHO YOU THINK CREATED THE NHL? Go play soccer you hoser

  • @davies2fittyf

    We watch football, you idiot.

  • @davies2fittyf u would b watching a video promoting the US, and which country won the most medals at the olympics?

  • @davies2fittyf fuck your mom. Faggot Ass Stereotypical Ass

  • GO JETS!!! ITS OUR TIME!!!! SUPERBOWL HERE WE COME!!!!!

  • @shogun1031 dude, shut the fuck up

  • @shogun1031 Shut up and go away!!! NY didn't care about the jets all these years and now all the sudden they love them and act like they stand for something.

  • Canada owns the world at hockey.

    nuff said.

  • @Madmaz23 if only they owned the world juniors

  • @ixcuincle love it! hows 5 straight goals taste canada?

  • @ovibackie19 idk, how did 5 straight Golds taste?

  • People have no idea how huge this was, this was a High School basketball team beating the Dream Team, this was a Varsity baseball team beating the 1927 yankees. 9 outta part 10 part was not true. 999 outta 1000 times Russia wins! USA baby!

  • yeah fuck the russians !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @scooterg234 your such an idiot you don't know russian people and you haven't lived there, so how u can tell who is idiot.Yes USA won golden medal so?

  • like any sports movie final speech, the sad, flute or piano music comes on 30 seconds after coach begins speaking. But this movie and We Are Marshall are some of the best sports movies ever

  • This was before my time and i loved every second of this movie and i know that it really cant hold a finger to this run and game, but i felt some USA hockey magic last year with that team that beat the canadiens and parise's goal with 23 seconds left... gotta love it

  • that was some speech

  • sid the kid, feel it

  • Comment removed

  • is that ryan miller?

  • chokes me up every time i watch. especially seeing them hit the telegrams on the wall as they go out

  • I have been in that arena in Lake Placid. It's called Herb Brooks Arena now. I live near that area, so I go there every once in a while. It's awesome going into the place knowing what went on in 1980.

  • @Rangers3040 That is awesome.

  • for herb as a coach all he needed was any player that had heart for the game they played hockey they didnt judge or criticize their opponents they just played the game. I am canadian .

  • whats the backround music called

  • gives me goosebumps

  • Great speech, and you people could argue with anyone about anything

  • this was when the Olympics whhere interesting and took time not grab a bunch of NHL players like lets go back to thiss

  • what is the name of the song in the background?

  • the movie is not about showing off its a guy making it to make money, and best moment in sports history ever plus its a good movie anyway and USA is much better then Canada at almost everything

  • the movie is not about showing off its a guy making it to make money plus its a good movie anyway and USA is much better then Canada at almost everything

  • the movie is not about showing off its a guy making it to make money plus its a good movie anyway

  • the movie is not about showing off its a guy making it to make money

  • From a neutral perspective Vancouver was amazing to watch,Crosby doing it in overtime in his backyard was a real spectacle but as regards the mountain the US had to climb in Lake Placid it outdoes the Canadian gold this year by a long way.

  • soviets suck

  • Comment removed

  • hard to believe this was 30 years ago. I was 12 and coming out of the 70's we needed this. Anyone who remembers it knows what it meant to the country. We didn't just win a hockey game, we beat the Soviets with a bunch of kids.

  • @wvufanngarner i know what u mean sometimes a sport is wats needed to bring a country together just b4 it starts to crumble.....USA had hockey, South Africa had Rugby. I'm kuwaiti, and kuwait football(soccer) team just won the persian gulf cup a month ago, it ain't worth much to many ppl from outside the gulf but it meant a lot to us especially being the country witht the most championships but not getting one in 12 years! and now we're going into the asian cup which is big! go USA, go Kuwait!

  • @iamadefender I hear you man !!! Go Kuwait !!!! sports makes you feel like your on top of the world. This made me a hockey fan and i didn't have hockey to play. I had to wait on winter for the ponds to freeze over before I could play it.

    congrats on the PG cup.

  • @wvufanngarner who werent professionals

  • @wvufanngarner yeah my dad sometimes tells me about it. He grew up in brooklyn, NY in a predominatley black neighborhood where hockey wasn't the most popular sport. But that night everyone came together as a nation and as Americans to watch that game and cheer for our boys.

  • you know whats funny is Americans would never watch Canadian youtube clips...tells you something about how this world is run.

  • Canada can't do the same for one reason: with NHL players, they are always the favorites. To have a miracle you need an underdog.

  • Honestly I don't care about hockey. This movie sin't about hockey, it's about a miracle we Americans experienced when we felt at our lowest. If you Cannucks have been better than our team ever since 1980, fine, it doesn't matter. These men were the true meaning of champions, which you will obviously never know. It isn't about the medals or titles, it's about the spirit, and the fact is you Canadians have none because you're too damn busy convincing yourself that you're better than everybody else

  • says the guy trying to do the exact same thing @AirRavers723

  • @AirRavers723 Its funny because I'm Canadian but i agree with you 100% (well except for the part about us never knowing what it feels like to be champions :p) but you are absolutely right. I am willing to admit that this was something special and I give credit to someone when its due because I'm not insecure. And another thing as a Canadian hockey player myself, I will tell you that the people in Canada that know something about hockey (and that doesn't mean everyone in Canada) actually do...

  • respect American hockey players because there are some pretty talented American players as an example Bobby Ryan and Patrick Kane. I think its good we have a rivalry because it keeps the game competitive but We Canadians can't get to far ahead of ourselves because USA hockey isn't that far off, and I think the 2010 Juniors is a perfect example.

  • @gigity890 Canada vs. USA in the olympics shows that we are not far behind Canada....it is a great rivalry.

  • Still Gives me chills

  • its amazing what guts and Determination can do And Also Believing in yourself/teammates

  • The Greatest Moment In The History of Sports!

  • name of the movie?

  • i got jim craig's autograph on a picture of them celebrating after that game on the ice.

  • screw em!

  • the little kid is better

  • i hope people realize that this game was the semi-finals not the finals but it was still was the greatest upset in sports history

  • Greatest underdogs, left to be thrown under the bus YET THEY UPSET THE BEST IN THE WORLD and never looked back. Real courage is defined as screw them, we are gonna win baby!!!

  • As a history teacher, I find a great deal of meaning in this clip. The Cold War was a time when America remembered what it meant to be America in every area of life, from politics to sports. It is a funny thing; when people threaten our existence, our sense of identity grows. When we are safe, we take things for granted.

  • @jsomers11 Couldn't agree more.

  • :D Kurt's my cousin.

  • Just look at those pants

  • it's this movie and D3 Mighty Ducks

  • Ahh Miracle, the movie that made America care about hockey for a week.

  • @KingFrank86 HAHAHA so true xD +1 for that :P

  • @KingFrank86 LOL

  • @KingFrank86 NHL?

  • @FFLOVER525 Nobody in America gives a damn about the NHL. It wouldn't be exclusively on Versus if we cared. We wouldn't only show 1/4th of the playoff games if we cared about the NHL. The Stanley Cup Finals wouldn't be losing in the ratings if we actually cared about hockey.

  • @KingFrank86 Its not exclusively on Versus..ik that for sure....I give a damn about the NHL so that voids your first statement....and The Stanley Cup Finals lost ratings because it was a fucking Blackhawks v. Flyers Final....both of those teams don't have a big fanbase...as much as a redwings or rangers or canadians team. Just like a few years ago when they had a Phillies v. Tampa Bay world series final I believe and the ratings were terrible because of the weak fan bases.

  • @FFLOVER525 Aren't the Blackhawks an Original 6? Thought so. And it is exclusively on Versus. Universal owns the rights to the NHL's broadcast. They only show games on Versus and 2-3 Cup games on NBC. Get over it. You aren't America, just because you and 1-2 of your friends like it doesn't mean the NHL will be more popular than the NBA, MLB or NFL. Just handfuls of people like it doesn't mean that come 2014, in the winter olympics, Figure Skating will be on Primetime and Hockey on CNBC.

  • @KingFrank86 Well don't say its not popular in America because it is lol to say it isn't is like saying the sky isn't blue. NHL MLB NBA are about the same popularity in regular season because there are soo many games....playoff time they are all pretty popular.

  • @FFLOVER525 That's like saying Soccer is popular in America. More people in this country care more about the World Cup than the Stanley Cup. And we hate the World Cup.

  • @KingFrank86 You just contradicted yourself.....you soccer isn't popular...but yet we care about the world cup?

  • @FFLOVER525 We don't care about the World Cup. But it's still more popular than hockey. It's not a contradiction, it just shows how much America doesn't care about Hockey.

  • @KingFrank86 How can we not care about something but have it be somewhat popular?

  • @FFLOVER525 Global warming is popular but it's clear nobody cares about it

  • @FFLOVER525 what the hell do you mean about chicago not having a big fanbase???? the blackhawks have taken over chicago after what they did and its going to be like that for a long time. the hawks are probably one of, if not the most, popular team in the NHL right now

  • @badgerfan14 How can they take over Chicago if the NHL isn't popular....like u said lol

  • @KingFrank86 it actually wasnt the movie itself you retard it was the event. if your gonna talk shit get your facts straight.

  • @KingFrank86

Thanks for coming troll, now go away

  • @KingFrank86 probably cause the Patriots upset the Rams right after 9/11

  • @KingFrank86 Speak for yourself. I've been a big hockey fan since I was a kid.

  • @KingFrank86 You obviously weren't alive back then. It was much bigger than a hockey game.

  • @00ASLam009 1980 Olympics = USA wins Cold War, 2001 Superbowl = Patriots defeat terroism, 2009 Superbowl = New Orleans not being flooded anymore. I get it. Sports = Politics.

  • @KingFrank86 2010 canada beats USA in golds....... lol so yeah ....take that lol

  • @reaputt I bet you can name every single hockey team in the united states and canada.. i can name one and it's where i live and if it wasnt for the news showing the scores of them i prob wouldnt know them either

  • lol im glad canada won in hockey, I mean it is sport that they love a hell of alot more than we do. It is their bread and butter and it would be a shame to lose in your home in sport you know your team is the best. Thats like having america lose in basketball or footballl would be really sad.

  • @DamienWar thumbs up to your post

  • @KingFrank86 FOR A WEEK????????????? How about this past Olympics. USA was nuts for hockey. Hockey is clearly gaining and maintaining respect for hockey.

  • One of the greatest sports movie of all time

  • I love enacting this speech. I always change "screw em'!" to "fuck em'", though. And I scream it at the top of my lungs.

  • really? what about the soviet winning streak? that day...we ended it. stop it. this is history, not a fact show.

  • still canadas game

  • who cares who won the gold medal game

    americans are on the rise

we beat canada in the juniors and we are comin back for more

we were predicted to finsh 4th and we got the silver

canada is supposed to win it

canada is not as dominate as they used to be

i mean how long did it take u guys to win the gold agian besides 2002 gold

watch out canada were comin back for more next olympics:D

  • before beat CAN in preliminary rounds CAN beat the US 41 straight times. all those wins together do not equal the win that US had over the USSR

  • canada has no hockey history that can beat the MIRACLE on ICE!!!

  • thats because we've never been underdogs. kinda hard to have a miracle when you're always #1. we are expected to always win, we can either do that, or fail because nothing less is acceptable.

  • You didn't end the Soviets' winning streak though.

  • @USAbeliever2010

sure we do... the day we invented hockey....

the invention of the sport pwns all history, no matter how miraculous the following events are.

  • @USAbeliever2010 lol ok

  • @USAbeliever2010

Canada Vs. Soviets in 72. Exact same thing happened, down to last game.

  • @USAbeliever2010 are you being serious? Ever hear of the 72 summit series?

I dont know, the 2010 Olympics was pretty good too haha.

  • holy crap! its Bill Callahan!

  • sk3l370r

Canada won the medal they were supposed to win. How can that be huge?? US won a medal it shouldn't have won. How can that be nothing?

If you really believe the Canada win over the US was greater than the US win over Russia, why are you watching this video?

  • what about salt lake city?? AHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA YOU SUCK

  • Brilliant point! Canada retooled it's entire system due to failure during Salt Lake Olympics. Your pride from that victory speaks volumes about your ignorance of Canadian hockey history. Again, why are you boasting on this video's comments? Rent an education before you further make an ass out of yourself.

  • You should've beaten Sweden. You lost!! And are you proud eking out a 1 goal win over a Germany that was considered far inferior?

This is what Canada's new sources reported at tthe time. I still think it's funny that you display your ignorance on a site dedicated to a US feat 30 years ago.

  • @houlini hey, at least we don't have to live in canada or sweden! :), that in itself is an achievement.

  • LOL, hockey pahaha

  • This isnt the only great speech by Herb.... His other came Half way through the Finaland game "IF YOU LOSE THIS GAME YOUR GOING TO TAKE IT TO YOUR FUCKING GRAVES....... YOUR FUCKING GRAVES!"

  • I get goosebumps everytime I watch them walk to the ice. It really built up the drama and the moment.

Reminds me when my basketball team would walk onto the court during the state tournament. Awesome feeling.

  • At the end of the day Canadians know that they can never achieve anything as great as the 1980 US Olympic Hockey Team did and it drives them nuts...

The '02 and '10 Gold Medals are mere exhibition tournaments compared to what this group of American college kids pulled off.... FACT.

  • true that my friend

  • AMEN

  • Comment removed

  • We don't care about your one medal, thats why a movie was made on it because you never win at hockey. Were happy that you won a medal but Vancouver 2010 gold medal game was huge, this shit was nothing.

  • @Sk3L370R The fact was a group of college kids beat the best professional hockey team on earth because these kids played with heart. That will never happen again because the Olympics allowed professional players to take the game away.
