  • I used to work at a dealership and this is correct. It was very difficult to sell cars because the customers could often not find the combinations of options they wanted not only at that particular dealership; but sometimes not in the whole state.

  • Another way to put it, Think of, say, a fast food restaurant. They dont make the food untill you order it. True if it was already made it would be served alot faster. But its better if you not make it untill its ordered. Question though, with the car thing, when it IS time to order a new shiny car, what do you do weith the old one if we were on thie Only made when ordered idea?

  • i have 1989 vovlo 240 gl with 300.000 plus miles on it. There was and there is no better built car to last till this day..cars made now ...joke

  • How do you test drive cars with sales men coming to your door with a catelogue?

  • Almost everyone on this thread is wrong. As a member of the Daimler group, I have insight many do not. Market drives what manufacturers decide to do. The precedent is set by the consumer, not the dealership. Todays society is a "I want it now" mentality. Dealerships will mortgage the future sales with higher floorplan interest rates in order to not lose a sale to a competitor in the same market. "BIG THREE" also has to turn out large amount of product so the recieve bulk pricing on supplies.

  • You are right...the car industry today is a relic of what existed 40 years ago. The margins on cars are a closely guarded secret in the industry. Once in a while, somebody spills the beans and we see what a car really costs to produce. Practically speaking, you are a fool to ever buy a new car. Its just a stupid extravagance that wears off nearly as fast as a good old fashioned hangover.

  • You make a compelling argument JCVdude.

  • The $2500 Indian car debuted recently. My tires cost more than this automobile. I hope they never approve these things for the road in the USA.

  • America - YOU ARE INVITED - to join my experimental protest in support of Money to the people..... answer one simple question: "How would you spend $297,000 dollars?" email your video responses to me or upload them to YouTube so I can add them to my favorites.

The Gov. is giving out this money with out knowing how it will spend or IF it will work...lets tell em how we would spend it to show if we got the money THIS CRAZY IDEA WOULD WORK AND FIX THE ECONOMY!!!

  • the future is big cars

    trolley[electric rail CAR]

  • im driving a 20 yr old olds everyday, fuck em

  • More BS! The simple truth is PEOPLE DON'T WANT GAS-MOTOR CARS & TRUCKS! So skip all the cretinous "power" bull-roar. People will do or buy WORTHWHILE things, not to buy use-less hated gas-cars! Piles of expensive JUNK! The whole lot!

  • Are you sure you're a car guy? New cars are not better, and they certainly don't get better mileage. My '59 Renault got 50+ MPG, so what's wrong with this picture?

I like this video, but I don't care if the big 3 goes down. Hot Rods would explode.

I'd rather have a car built by someone locally anyway, as would most enthusiasts.

Oh, the new cars are built on a 15:1 profit ratio. Yeah, that $40,000 Ford only cost about $2,700 to make.

    5*s anyway.
