But the defeat was primarily the responsibility of the French, who wanted to hide behind the Maginot Line, ignore the Ardennes, and not press against Germany when the German forces were in the east. You're right: Once we had invested hugely in a defensive strategy and an efficient Maginot line, it was stupid to launch an offensive in Belgium and Holland. And it was also incoherent to have an alliance with Poland & Czechoslovakia.

The British evacuation at Dunkirk is well evoked, as a highly controversial event:

- The French, whose infantry protected the British evacuation, saw that their ally left the battle field.
