at celtic park glasgow they blew the who off the stage ,i like the who but even with keith moon that day ,i went home thinking fuck me they were awesome what a band ,except jesusandmarychain r betterthan us,well good home folks yes,and fuck stv.
When Penthouse Tapes came out, there was a teen pop magazine who ran an Alex competition. A few simple questions, then you had to write a short note as to what the band meant to you. First prize was 2 tickets to your nearest concert, the Penthouse Tapes LP and a chance to meet the band backstage. Second prize was the same, except no chance to meet the band. I won second prize. Except I already had Penthouse Tapes- and two tickets to the Edinburgh concert. Life's a right bitch sometimes..
Time for a bit of an Alex revivial. Even i'm a tad young to remember the band properly but yeah i remember Nick Cave saying SAHB were one of his main, maybe even THE main, influence when he was a teenager in Australia.
Alex put together the well-named Sensational band - Ted, Chris and Hugh were the base but Zal Cleminson was the Pizza Topping!!! Alex was the whole fuckin' HUT!
Alex was produced by the generation of musicians who performed in Germany after their defeat in WWII! That included the Beatles! Listen to "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" Hitler stole that song but Alex crept in there and stole it back!
The Genuine Article - Alex Harvey was fucking amazing - I saw him "support" Slade in 1973 at Earl's Court - Alex had Star Quality in spades - if Louis Walsh, Simon Cowell etc had seen Alex they would have shat themselves!!!!!
Alex (and his brother Les!) were unbelievably entertaining - I saw Les with Stone the Crows in the Raith Ballroom, Kirkcaldy - he stuck out like a sore thumb, then I saw Alex and his amazing band at Earl's Court in 1973 "supporting" SLADE (who were pretty good)....he blew them away! There is NO substitute for experience!!
They're a joke of a broadcaster if they think JK Rowling's a Scot (which she isn't actually) and forget that Bon Scott and Angus Young are Scots too!
No wonder people are switching off STV in droves not just because they spat the dummy at ITV but because they replace their Dramas and Alan Titchmarsh with Tweed-Tartan junk like The Hour and The Greatest Scot.
Thank god for Sky and thank god I can get UTV on Sky!
He is on the list, because people took the time and voted for him, any Scot could be on the list but you had to vote them in, obv no one bothered to vote for Bon or Angus, its simple ,sad but true!!
Max Maxwell, Alex' succeeder was also a great Scot.
