If i had a dollar for everytime i heard a hummer owner say "i'm not takin this offroad" i'd be able to waste money on one of the turds myself, not that i would. and yes, the h1's heavy, diesel, and has low end torque, but that will never make it better that a jeep. longer wheel base, 5,700 lbs, and weak suspension are 3 good reasons. not opinion but fact, so if you have a response, let it be an educated one.

Actually H1 suspension is by FAR stronger but if you meant 'suspension travel' - H1has superior center of gravity so it doesn't need as much wheel travel. Not to mention that Jeep needs heavy mods to come close to H1. That's being said, I can easily count dozens of Jeeps (per every pimped H2) that never even seen dirt road. Simple - there isn't many open top vehicles for under $25K..

@roadtrip1098 i'm going by the fact that the xj and tj's were made long before h2's hit the market, and a few years before h1's were readily available to the public. sure, brand new ten years ago they were in the high teens or low 20's. all the used h2's I see are about 35+ and h1's about 50. still on a budget you can do most of what a hummer can, and some things it can't

As for the H1's I have seen plenty civilian ones go for mid $30k and military auctions can get you one at about half price (but you'll end up spending a lot to make it legal). I am in no way saying Jeeps suck, I've had plenty of them. I'm just saying the H3 stock vs stock is as good as any Jeep I've seen.

Plus when comparing break over angles 06 H3 Vs 06 Jeep You get 22.3 in a Jeep (from Jeeps owner manual), 23.5 in an H3, Approach angles are about the same (H3 is still more by .2), departure is 31.3 for Jeep and 37.0 for the H3. I don't make the facts, I just look them up. Keep hatin though.
Yeah, dude. The crawl ratio on Rubicons has always been something like 73.1 or 74.1. As for approach, I dunno what 23.5 means, but an H3 has a 39 DEGREE approach, and TJs have 44 for Rubicon or 42 for other models. Departure is 31 in a TJ, 40 in a JK. I get 36.5 degrees for departure on the H3. Ground clearance of the two is roughly the same, assuming the H3 has those optional 33'' tires, compared to the 30-31s on TJs? BTW, I'm not hating on your Colorado...or H3.

@xCoN65 Hummers are extremely well made. Place a stock H2 against a stock jeep and the jeep will get raped. That jeep has a lift kit for clearance, about 40 inch offroad tires. When wheeling over rocks its all about travel from suspention and wheel size

Looks to me like we are comparing a factory equipped H2 to a jeep that has MANY aftermarket modifications. I guarntee that a factory equipped jeep would fair no better.
The military version of the HMMWV is ok offroad up until the military added all of the armor which made them so heavy that they just sink in mud. The unarmored HMMWV's are ok offroad if you have room due to their size they're very limited on where they can go. Contrary to popular belief though HMMWV's DO NOT have lockers in the differentials, the only locking mechanism on them is in the transfer case giving you open for pavement use, and locked for severe offroad and low range.
That's alot to ask of a stock 4x4 on all terrains.. H2's with better wheel and tire combos actually aren't completely useless offroad.. Same can be said for a Heep... I prolly wouldnt even take a stock suspension rubicon through that.. Jeep is still better than h2 but holds no candle to h1.

SWB only works with lift kit and has number of disadvantages (reason why Unlimited so popular). Good base for mods and hobby' hardly changes what I said - they need to be modified. New Rubicon don't need so many mods. Have you checked it's price sticker? Not that cheap, is it?
I see nothing wrong with the H2 or H3, however I do belive that theey strayed along ways from the Humvee. After GM bought the rights from AM general for the Hummer name..you must relize that AM General was selling because H1 wasn't selling enough so GM had to do something that would be more affordable for the public and both still have alot of offroad cred.
@chasereynolds81 AM General did not sold rights for the Hummer name because Hummer sales were slow and GM did not have to do anything about it. GM just banked on peoples mindset. Just like did Jeep, Rover and others, unless you can tell me that teenage girl driving Liberty will be able to tell the difference between differential and winch. That's being said, H1 sales were not huge because of H1 itself, not to mention that AMG could not produce it in large numbers anyways.

jeeps have better low end torque, are better for climbing and their size allows them to get out of tight sports where as the H2 is too long, gets stuck in the middle or rubs in the back and the low end torque is lacking.

Building an offroad vehicle requires you to choose a platform, Jeep just so happens to be the best to start with. When talking about stock vehicles, Jeep is the most capable off roader. period.
if you dont know how to drive offroad...stay away from it.keep it on the road.

@pyro69man yes, the H1 is better, but H2 is a glorified large Chevy tahoe, but jeeps will out wheel any hummer, any day. H2's are built for the street, not offroad, and H1's are cool for sure, but not the kings of off road, jeeps will forever hold that title (not the new gay jeeps like liberties and newer grand Cherokees)

I may have in my life seen one hummer that had something done to it as far as lift, tires, snorkel, and etc. Also no its not the only logical thing is because of saved money its because Jeeps are an all out easier, cheaper, and already have a bullet proof engine and trans in it. Their just good vehicles from factory too modify. Shorter wheel bases and again an awesome engine and trans setup. Idk for alot of people its a hobby.

SWB only works with lift kit and has number of disadvantages (reason why Unlimited so popular). Good base for mods and hobby' hardly changes what I said - they need to be modified. New Rubicon don't need so many mods. Have you checked it's price sticker? Not that cheap, is it?

I see nothing wrong with the H2 or H3, however I do belive that theey strayed along ways from the Humvee. After GM bought the rights from AM general for the Hummer name..you must relize that AM General was selling because H1 wasn't selling enough so GM had to do something that would be more affordable for the public and both still have alot of offroad cred.

Just like did Jeep, Rover and others, unless you can tell me that teenage girl driving Liberty will be able to tell the difference between differential and winch. That's being said, H1 sales were not huge because of H1 itself, not to mention that AMG could not produce it in large numbers anyways.

Building an offroad vehicle requires you to choose a platform, Jeep just so happens to be the best to start with. Most stock offroad vehicles require some additional modifications to perform well off road. Its a trial and error thing, if something breaks, build it better with aftermarket parts. When talking about stock vehicles, Jeep is the most capable off roader. period.
