Bravo to both of them. This must have been an incredibly difficult scene to sing, considering the personal circumstances they have revealed of the impending divorce. I wish them both luck and happiness. They have given great pleasure - and even greater entertainment - to opera lovers.

I heard Alagna last night in Cavalleria and Pagliacci at the MET and I didn't like him at all. Listening to this it confirms my impression: he scoops horribly into the pitch, uses his throat too much and his voice loses form in the high notes.... too bad, he seemed to be really good a few years ago...
I am sure you understand one cannot judge someone on one single performance and after a long and tremendous career. I will attend Cavalleria with Alagna in Orange next summer, maybe I will be disappointed but I do forget who he is. One cannot and never forget who he was, and still is, in Verdi and Donizetti. Definitely a unique and sincere tenor. I have attended only 3 performances with Alagna between 1994 and 2006: believe me, not many brought such an emotion and such a voice to the audience!
Maybe he's having a bad moment... I wasn't giving an overall judgement of his artistry, I was just reporting what I heard live at the MET and what I hear in this video, he does scoop into the pitch and his voice sounds throaty. I hope he gets better again soon.

You are so right! He could not even stay with the orchestra - and I don't mean just a bit ... it reminds me about a conductor who you to say about singers like this "Just Follow the B**ch"
It was such a beautiful performance. Especially when it comes to this particular song. They sing with so much passion and sadness that it makes your heart clench.
I have heard the broadcast last saturday and was somewhat disappointed to verify Gheorghiu wasn't at her best performance. She has sung better Magdas, but this role is such a specialty of hers and her voice has such inner beauty and technique that, even in worse conditions, she's still an amazing performer. I think she mentioned something about not feeling very well during the intermission. Besides, her beauty and stage presence are amazing and intact, thanks God. :-)
They said, before the curtain went up, that she suffered from a bad cold, but would perform anyway, and I think she did a fantastic job. She looked a bit scared in her first aria, but then everything was business as usual.
I watched the in theater broadcast on Jan 10th in Tucson, AZ. They announced at the start that Angela Gheorghiu had a cold but would perform with apologies.
I thought that the production was excellent in spite of some technical sound problems.
I am very proud to be a compatriot of Angela Gheroghiu who is truly an international star. Maybe the biggest star Romania has at this moment. She has an unique voice and I hope we can here her one day in Romania.
many thanks for this I had a fantastic time at the cinema last night watching this production Roberto Alagna and Angela Gheorghiu were amazing and so giving with their interviews between acts.

Meooow, some more please? Preferably with Ramey? I was hoping that arte TV would put it up on their website to re-watch, but they didn't...
And thanks for this one, of course!
