the arm triangle is definitely my bread and butter, i find myself in that position wrestling around just for fun, in the dojo, and at my highschool meets (head and arm) all the time. it's definitely a move that if you know what you're looking for you can take a few W's with. thanks for the videos you can learn a hell of alot from them, keep it up
The jiu jitsu guy at our gym stressed the higher the legs are in guard the easier it is. Almost to squeeze the air out of them and getting to a part of the body that is softer and easier to control. Do you agree ?
this works great, what i usually do when i have someone in the arm triangle from my guard, is to sweep him, since i figured that the arm triangle requires less strenght to apply afterwards.
hey technique prevails you could also try to sweep him if you got the traingle locked and get points for mounting him before finishing (doesnt work with all fighters but if it works you get good points!)
You can also secure an ezekiel (fist choke) in this position, correct?
I've only ever applied an ezekiel succesfully from the top from either half-guard, side or a mount. Never from my back. It appears that you can do it similarly to how you demonstrated the anaconda. It just seems much more difficult without your weight on top. With a gi collar to grab, it seems it would be much easier to do an exekiel from your back. I do non-gi grappling.
One of my favorite moves. Even though it is something that you will rarely get at an advanced level, with a little tinkering, it can force the chess match into a direction that is more advantageous for you. This is especially true if you have someone striking down into your guard.

when it gets hot and crazy you can get that arm to slip forward as you lean up and catch it. Its one of my go to's and I do it to (some)people over and over. For a guy like me with short arms -its very effective.
@TechniquePrevails Maybe not worth killing yourself to learn but you should learn each and every technique even if you yourself dont think its a good choke. If you can get the arm triangle take it. If you never have learned how to do it then you lost a submission attempt.
@TechniquePrevails Respectfully I'd have to disagree. I think they are easier to do if you are in the mount, but you can pull them off from Guard as well. It probably depends on who is trying the move. I do have some wrestling background so this move is a bit easier.
@924142707 I think this move is very slick, most wont see that coming. I know a lot of mma guys are watching for regular(leg) triangles or even armbars but this move most wont see coming! good stuff!
Either sarcasm, or complete fallacy. You wont too often find more advanced submission fighters falling for the arm triangle from your guard, however, I know for a fact a lot of amateur fighters have a bad habit of posting the arm or forearm on your throat. Just pop their elbow over, lock it down, hip out (important), and finish the triangle.
Definitely a submission worth practicing though, hence it's existence o.o
@TechniquePrevails lol. Ofc they are worth practising! there is no position that is not worth practising. First of all, I know that many judokas can give your arm like that.
@clokedbigman I was being sarcastic to the guy that posted "Who would ever put their arm in that position?" Obviously arm triangles are great submissions and I recommend that you definitely keep up the practice of them!
@TechniquePrevails I was recently choked unconscious in a tournament from an arm triangle in top guard, which was embaracing, but they are definetly worth practicing.
@scottytissue456 Maybe you won't find someone who gives you the arm like that but if you bridge and drop them and they happen to drop like that w/ their arm on your neck and your fast enough you can do it. (I have a strong bridge since I'm 6'6 so this'll be very helpful)
@scottytissue456 Actually this happens to me all the time. They usually try to push your face away to break your guard and posture a little. I usually hit 'em with a omoplata or armbar. I usually sweep them after they attempt to pass. So think about that.
@scottytissue456 lol, i have, i was grappling a friend who had no experience in wrestling of grappling other than watching UFC, after i put my arm on his chin, i took about 15 seconds for me to work him into a scissors choke
Yes. The arm triangle from north-south is a higher level move than the north-south choke. Search "arm triangle from north south" on YouTube and you should be able to find a good one. I'd recommend seeing if you can find a vid by Submissions101; they're the best.
Aw, man, I didn't mean it like that. I looked through your uploads and I didn't see an arm triangle from north-south video. I like your videos very much, though (obviously, I'm subscribed). Submissions 101 has videos for just about everything to do with high level BJJ, so I just figured that if I was going to send him somewhere then I'd send him to Submissions 101. Thanks for this video, btw. I was trying to muscle it in from the wrong side =/
It both cranks your opponents neck and stops the blood flow to the brain, thus choking him. I'm not sure about BJJ competition, but it IS legal in no-gi tournaments. I've never seen it banned, and don't know why it would be. It does the exact same thing as a standard triangle choke- you're just using your arms to do it instead.
I tired this in class today it worked two times but the people said they tapped because of the pain on there neck not the actual choke. Did I do anything wrong or is that just the way it is?
Can you make a vid on how to do the far arm triangle choke from the top position of a half guard. There are several ways to pass once the hold is locked in, but I want to see the best way.
i get people in the anaconda alot from guard, but i never knew there was a way to tap the person. I usualy just use it as a hold. Is there a certain way i could get a tap from the anaconda?
Its really hard to get it as a choke, people usually tap from this with the torque put on their neck. I have close a windpipe with my shoulder and gotten a tap, but its more muscle than technique

@corymac011 Yes, I do. In fact- the more of an acute angle that you create with your legs anytime in the closed guard, you're generally better off.

Arm Triangle is a Choke, but if you dont do it just right, then it turns into a neck crank unintentionally... at least thats my understanding.

From the one time I was in one, I don't remember a feeling of a crank. It's just a choke and is allowed in gi tourny's
