thats not what the 860,000 thousand jewish survivors that claim to be saved by the church think. Einstien even praised pius xii for his resistance of the nazi's. The cheif rabbi of rome coverted after the war and took pius's christian name for his baptismal name. Anti-catholic lies like that have only spawned in the last 30 or so years. You are an ignorant fool. If you were alive in the 1940's you would have been killing jew's with Hitler.
@JDZwiers19 The pope wasnt stupid man. A smart man always has a plan "B" . He knew that at any given time hitlers plan could fail. Pope: "so, why not keep some jews by our side and when the war is over if hitler wins lets kill them if hitler looses then lets bring them out and, say hey every body! look at me! i love jews look, i save some jews too!." people: "aww.. look our pope is a saint."
but you never know. and like I said it is a possibility, not every one is who they say they are. For power even "holy men" are capable of slaughtering others that might get in their ways. The catholic church has done it in the past. pope John paul II (admirable man) asked for forgiveness on behalf of the church.
@metapaneco12 True, Pope John Paul II has asked for forgiveness and I think during his reign, the Chruch admitted it was wrong and Galileo was right. However, I'm waiting for Lutherans to apolgize for Luthers adjectives when describing the Jews as: maggots, animals, worthy of burning (refer to his work On The Jews And Their Lies). I'm also waiting for Protestants to admit they were wrong concerning Galileo.
@FFFFbody um... ok. I wasnt only talking about Galileo. I was talking about the masacres that the Roman catholic did towards the so called "heritics." and also not all protestants belive the same thing. they are called protestants because they protested agaisnt the believes and most doctrins of the catholic church so you cant judge every protestant church (concerning Galileo) because not every protestant church was around at the time of Galileo. but the catholics were and still are, you get me?
@FFFFbody lol. yeah. But like i said they are conclutions and theories that ive come too, while reading and studying history. I Really do believe that it could be possible. After all there are so many mysteries in life that we dont know about, perhaps this is one of them. Im sorry if i offend you or anyone else that reads this but i personaly believe that the pope is just a man that has power because people gave it to him. And too much power given to a man is not good. but thats just my opinion.
@metapaneco12 I don't care if you offened me and afraid that my feelings are going to be hurt. But to say that you believe the pope funded Hitler, the pope "kept" Jews around and if Hitler won the war, the pope would've killed them. I mean, where is the historical documents to back up your wild claim? You know what I believe, I believe you dislike the Church and engage in misinformation on purpose. I really wonder how old you are, actually.
We are talking about the pope the most powerful and perhaps the wealthiest man in the world. If he would have really wanted to help the jews he could have save them all. but the jews and catholics have nothing in common so why help them? the pope had no interest in jews, just like rawanda and the U.S. U.S could have ended the massacre but it didnt because it had no interest in rawanda.
@metapaneco12 Hi, I had to dig in my "vault" albit. I just want to post some historical material backed up with documented evidence. From the NY Times Editorial, December 25, 1941: "The last tiny islands of neutrality are so hemmed in and overshadowed by war and fear that no one but the Pope is still able to speak aloud. The Pope put himself squarely against Hitlerism. He left no doubt that the Nazi war aims are also irreconcilable with his own conception of a Chrisitian peace."
@metapaneco12 From Israel Zolli, the Chief Rabbi of Rome during WWII, on Pius XXI's activity on behalf of the Roman Jewish community in his autobiography Before the Dawn, now republished as Why I Became a Catholic: "The Holy Father sent by hand a letter to the bishops instructing them to lift the enclosure from the convents and monateries so that they could become refuges for the Jews. I know of one convent where the sisters slept in the basement, giving up their beds to Jewish refugees."
@metapaneco12 I could provide more quotes and historical facts. I have a great one from the worlds most smartest mind in the 20th C. and Europes most prominent Jew: Albert Einstein. Again, not trying to one up you, I just hope this helps your....thinking/opinion...about the Catholic Church.
Your quotes seem bias to me. most of your quotes come from Catholics, even the jew was catholic. and like i said before, The pope wasnt a stupid man. A smart man always has a plan "B" .. He knew that at any given time hitlers plan could fail.
@FFFFbody Pope: "so, why not keep some jews by our side and when the war is over if hitler wins lets kill them if hitler looses then lets bring them out and, say hey every body! look at me! i love jews look, i save some jews too!." people: "aww.. look our pope is a saint."
@metapaneco12 Gestapo report on Pius XII's Christmas Sermon, 1942: "In a manner never known before, the Pope has repudiated the NAZI New European Order....It is true, the Pope does not refer to the NAZIS in Germany by name, but his speech is one long attack on everthing we stand for...Here he is clearly speaking on behalf of the Jews." "Again and again reports reached us that the Pope is feverishly at work against us." Expert from diary of Joseph Goebbels, Hitlers propaganda chief July 27 1943
@FFFFbody He saved perhaps .2% compared to all the jews that died. that is if we say 6,000,000 jews died but we all know there where more. The pope, wealthiest and most powerfull man in the world was only able to save .2% of jews in a period of 6 years. The U.S was able to end the war in 4 years and it wasnt even a major influence at the time. dont get me wrong the us was a major power house but not the greatest. and the pope with one finger could have moved the masses but it chose not to. Why?
@metapaneco12 I don't know the percentage of Jews saved. Raw numbers we're talking about 850,000 souls (Britannica Encyclopedia). The Catholic Church did more and saved more Jewish souls than any other Christian religion or country. Countries did not go to war to end the Holocaust, went to war to defeat Germany, but ending the Holocaust was a secondary "objective." Just like the North didn't go to war to end slavery, went to war to preserve the Union and ending slavery was a secondary result.
@metapaneco12 Being Jewish, I'm sure you've heard of Crystall Night. That happened as a result of one young French Jew killing a Nazi/German officer in France, I think in 1936?. Look what happened when ONE Jew killed ONE German. The pope knew that if he "made a lot of noise" or "rocked the boat" too much, the Nazis would've increased the intensity of the persecution. So he kind of "worked behind the scenes" if you will. One could always ask why he didn't do more. But who else could've done more?
@FFFFbody your right, The U.S didnt enter the war to save jews. And yes i have heard and read about Crystall night im currently taking Ap Euro. So your telling me that the most power man on earth was afraid of hitler, and thats why he didnt say or did much to save lives or to end the war? I find that kind of fishy.. and to answer your question, no one else could have done more and the man that could have didnt thats a shame. Im disapointed on this man.
@metapaneco12 Hey buddy. Ever heard of Edith Stein? Born into a German-Jewish family, turned atheist while a teenager. Converted to Christianity and baptised Rom.Cath. in 1934. In 1942 the Cath.Church bishops in Amsterdam "spoke out" about the Holocaust. In response, the Nazis rounded up 2000 Jews in Amsterdam, including her, and sent them to their deaths. That, along with the Nazi reaction of a French Jew killing one German officer setting off Crystal Night, convinced Pope Pius XII NOT to...
@metapaneco12 to be too vocal or the Jews would suffer more. It's a damn if you do, damn if you don't. You want to know specifics? In 1932 Pope Pius XI wrote the encyclical Mit Brennadeir Sorge (With Burning Anxiety). In it, the Pope explained the dangers of Nazism and begged the Germans not to vote for the Nazis. It was smuggled into Germany and read from every pulpit. In the 1933 elections, only Catholic Bavaria voted against the Nazis (they voted for the Katholic Centre Partei), the rest
@metapaneco12 of the Germans voted for the Nazis. Pope Pius XII very frequently spoke out against treatment of Jews on Vatican Radio. Also, German resistence approached Pope Pius XII and asked his support in getting rid of Hilter. The Pope forwarded this request to the British, who didn't want anything to do with it. I can add on if you want more examples. But I never said he was afraid of Hitler. Was he? Maybe, I don't know. And I also don't know if he was the most powerful man...
@metapaneco12 Hey buddy, here's some GERMAN sources: "The election of Pope Pius XII is not accepted with favor in Germany because he was always opposed to Nazism." Berliner Morgenpost, a Nazi organ, on March 3, 1939, the day after Pius XII was elected. "The voice of Pius XII is a lonely voice in the silence and darkness enveloping Europe this Christmas...He is about the ONLY ruler left on the Continent of Europe who dares to raise his voice at all." His Holiness Pope Pius X11 was the last true pope who acted in accordance with holy religion from ancient times.
Perhaps future pope will try to emulate the holiness, and the greatness of Pope Pius X11
