  • jorma is a great guitarist, singer and person

  • I wish I could play ragtime guitar. Jorma is my GURU!

  • It's cool how he uses some of these licks in his own songs. He uses the very first lick in this song in hesitation blues

  • Way cool. Can't wait to see him perform in C'ville in May.

  • Jorma is a fine example of someone who is growing old gracefully and for lack of a better cliche, He is approaching magnificence. I am certain that the love between Jorma and his wife is why he is looks as good as he does.

  • There are few better lead guitarists. The Airplane soared on Jorma's melodic understanding. I've never been 100% sure as to how his last name is pronounced, however. Help please?

  • After much debate and uncertainty myself, I'm pretty certain that Jorma's surname is pronounced "COW-co-nen." Jorma's a fine acoustic fingerstyle player alright, but your comment on those electric leads is seconded here. Loves to do glissandos and shake them strings, eh wot? Very distinctive either way. I myself was fortunate enough to see him live in a very intimate setting a couple of times during the late 80s at which time he resided near Woodstock, NY .

  • His name is Finnish but since writing phonetics in english I think is a bit challencing your question is a bit hard to answer :) But I´ll give it a try:

Yor-ma cow-co-nen. R is pronounced pretty much like in spanish, and in "co-nen" letter 'o' is like 'o' in english like it is in the beginning of word when next letter is consonant. I´d be curious to hear how he pronounces it himself, since I´ve understood he´s spent all his life in the US and I don´t know if he speaks any Fin.

  • Kow-kuh-nen

  • @jwalsh67 pronounced " cow ka nen"

    he is just great !

  • I saw you live in person yesterday, Chicago, Nov. 29. I'm Inspired. Your guitar playing is truly incredible, and you make a fine cup of tea to boot...

  • evern yourma misses something and keep breathe! this make me feel a better guitar player :)

  • nice tinny ragtime dixieland-ish sound.... I wonder what Sally was actually drinking??

  • I would still until this day marry this man if I had the chance.

  • Nicely done Jorma! Check out mine if you like.

    Cheers!

  • Talk about someone who just keeps getting better.

  • JORMA THE MAN

  • EXELLENT PICKING! And for you other Finns- Jorma is proud of his heritage (I´ve met him and discussed about these things with him). Reverend Gary was the finest guitar picker in the world! JORMA does a fine job with his tunes, keeping them alive...

  • Yep, but it's funny that lot of people don't actually know that Jorma doesn't speak finnish.

  • make sure you use light strings and a low setup to play this type of music

  • hienoo, suomi maailmankartalle

  • Kaukosen Jormalla nyt ei loppujen lopuksi ole paljon Suomen kanssa tekemistä. Puolisuomalaisia Amerikassa piisaa vaikka kuinka ja harva heistä suomea osaa puhua. Ironista kylläkin, Jormalla on Woodstock-elokuvassa hakaristi kaulassa, hmmm...

  • Jorma is my 3rd cousin!!!!!!!!!!! i love him!

  • Sei 1 grande Jorma

  • the best..er mejo

  • Talk about under-rated! Jorma is one of my favorites!

  • Hienosti vedetty!!!

  • you sure sound like a yankee for a finish man!

  • luv dat ragtime ! regards bluespower.

  • Yeah...I think he nailed the acoustic/ragtime blues stuff before most other 60's era revivalists did. (Of course, the old school guys already had it nailed.) Love his music. THANKS

  • daaamn. age has made him look more normal than he ever did. awesom guitarist though one of my favorites.

  • I've seen Jorma up close and personal multiple times...(heck, I even got to help him set up for a small solo gig and then sit by his wife once)...I'd say this is a "very simple" song in relation to his playing ability...I have seen Clapton, etc. live, but Kaukonen's probably the only guitar player who's caused my jaw hit the floor in amazement...

  • Came from France to saw him in Petaluma near SF in 2001, wonderful !

  • He is one the greatest acoustic blues icon ever.

  • yes. he is.

  • most underrated guitarist.... this is the same guy from JA right?

  • Hahaha Jorma Rocks!!!
