  • It is so strange to see everyone in the crowd just sitting there. They didn't know what they had. Just think, every time you're at a bluegrass fest or show enjoying an amazing ensemble, remember they won't stay in that phase of greatness forever (Tony singing in this case) and maybe try to enjoy it.

  • That's great to see the best bluegrass players together ! Here in Russia there are lots of your fans, guys !!!!!!!!!!! That could be a real prize for all of us to have you at our "COUNTRY BRIDGE" Festival in Moscow in early November ! ))))

  • ten koleżka z kontrabasem uskutecznia całą popularność, bo gitarki owszem efektowne, wokal taki se, ale kontrabas jest bardzo si - równo, prosto i daleko :)

  • its like when i think "hey, im gonna play guitar!" and i think i can do this and nooooooooo way son. no way in hell u can play like the master... But ill try for a couple hours. Then i realize not only that im not tony but i dont have super mandolin and banjo and fiddle masters to back me up. Then i go on youtube and just listen and smile

  • Not so much a head bobbing..lol I'll have to say though, seeing that what probably make me just sit mesmorized too:)

  • holy @*!

  • His biography, Still Inside, is a terrific book.

  • awesome post matt

  • best fiddle solo...ever?

  • Back when white leather tennis shoes jean jackets and mullets were cool!! Martins will always be cool!!

  • just a few of the best pickers who ever walked the earth...

  • It's interesting listening to this version of the song, how much a song evolves over time. Freeborn Man was written by Mark Lindsay and Keith Allison in the late 60's, but their aarrangement and playing style is very different from this one. About the only thing the two versions have in common are the words and basic tune.

  • HOLY SHIT

  • fuck me blind....

  • play this one for the aliens when they show up for the show down.

  • I love this song. When I was homeless for a short while and was living in my van I sang this song to myself to life my spirits. I was trying to emphsize the freedom I was enjoying instead of the deprivation.

  • that was incredible. true masters of the art. i cant help but to tap my foot. amazing

  • Some of the very cream of the crop. It's always a pleasure to hear the masters.

  • oh my, that's quite awesome

  • Now that is what I call a throwdown. :)

  • @whis102 haha right on

  • All are masters of the jazzed up fiddle music. So pleased this track is here. DK

  • holy bible batman. I went to mark o' connors' fiddle camp in tennessee when I was younger, it was an amazing experience- however, I was put in expert when i was supposed to be in intermediate, I couldn't keep up with no one in any of the classes i went too. But man was it fun. Mark - I still have a fidle signed by you and many others - your one of my true hero's and inspirations.

  • bad ass band ! my all time favorite pickers right here!

  • I used to play their music on my radio show in the early 90s to 97. LOVED every minute of it!!!

  • Thats an All Star lineup if i've ever seen one.

  • mark oconnor...you always will be ...the SICKEST fiddle player....e.v.e.r.

  • I absolutely love this. AND one of the ALL STARS on this performance posted the video??? THANK YOU

  • 2:56 I love Stuart Duncan but let's see him play that LOL!

  • I watch this video nearly every night. Something I never realized that is very odd to me. Look closely. The fingerboard on Tony's guitar is a good inch or better past the sound hole. I've never seen that before.

  • @capitalismforme It's because that guitar was customized before Tony owned it - somebody enlarged the sound hole towards to fingerboard.

  • @pfmgonigle That's probably the most famous Martin D28 in the world, used to belong to the late great Clarence White.

  • Hi Reddit!

  • @Thealmightysanchez Hi Thealmightysanchez!

  • The Tony Rice Unit will be playing Island in the Mountains Fest on Blannahassett Island in Marshall, NC on 08-01-2011

Google Island in the Mountains Fest and come join us on the island.

  • four of the greatest bluegrass players ever, all in one place. sheer magic.

  • @SyntagmaStation which one doesn't count? Fleck, Douglas, Rice, Bush, O'Connor and Schatz... All are cornerstones of the revitalized acoustic music we call Bluegrass. All have taken extended periods of hiatus to move waaaaay out.. only to come back better than ever.

    Peace!

  • @mandoaaron I corrected my staement from 4 to 5, dude.

  • @SyntagmaStation there are 6, dude.

  • @mandoaaron oh. sorry for miscounting . . . you nit-picking asshole.

  • @SyntagmaStation glad I could help

  • Good things and bad things have come out of America, this music is definitely one of the better things!...

  • Who in the hell disliked this?!

  • @magliulo Haha... yes... probably the (one) person who didn't like it was a deaf guy who didn't like the color of Sam Bush's shirt. (it does kind of stand out ;-) But yes... this is pretty damned tight work... tough to imagine disliking it unless you have no feeling for this type of music.

    Beautiful playing, guys...

  • hot diggity damn ... boil dat cabbage down, boys!

  • excellent thanks

  • wow super video

  • Bardstown rd in Louisville KY , you mean at the storefront., man it was great.

  • I keep coming back to this clip & getting blown away each time. Mandolin & Fiddle solos spoke to me this time around ~ WOW!

  • It's great to see just how much these guys enjoy playing together.

  • He's been to The Crossroads, no doubt about it!!!

  • I was around when all these guys weren't famous and it sure is good to see they got to the top of their field.Ask them about Bardstown Road in Louisville 1969-71. Bela came later than the others.

  • tony rice is flatpicn mo fo

  • Im a fiddler by practice and nature but this is a stellar line up no matter your preference Doesn't get any better

  • Like to watch this one occasionally F. M.!

  • It doesn't get any better than this! Bring it, boys!

  • What can you say, truly magnificent musicians who let their fingers do the talking. An honor and privilege and I'm proud to be a fellow American!

Tony is an absolutely incomparable musician, as are the rest of the guys up there with him!!

  • This is ridiculously awesome bluegrass. I had this video on my favourites from another uploader and was dismayed to find that it had been removed from YouTube, so thank you markoconnor for also uploading it! INCREDIBLE.

  • Great!!

  • Great playing!!! This video must be really old ! Jerry Douglas the greatest dobro player of all time looks like he just hit puberty. But Tony Rice is the best flat picker of my generation

  • Does it get any better than this? These guys are gods.

  • Tony is the greatest flat picker-there is no one better

  • @gonetubing99 Molly Tuttle comes close and she's still young

  • @gonetubing99 Theres a select few that can hold their own with Tony.
