@0liviaTeng lol, I'm doing that for vibrato / tremolo, not to look cool=). It's when you "vibrate" the pitch and frequency ("waviness") of the sound by shaking the guitar neck. It's easy to confuse the two since you're probably used to rock guitarists doing the same on electric guitar. They might add a little style to make it look cool (like a singer tilting a microphone stand), but they're doing it to alter the sound of the instrument...

@0liviaTeng To cover rock / pop / metal / etc on acoustic guitar, I have to utilize every possible tool. (E.g. I use vibrato to mimic Jesse's vocals in this). While this is a common classical / fingerstyle technique--as are other things I'm doing--I have to push these above their limits to do what I'm do. I'm teaching myself to thump the guitar very hard to create an artificial drum beat (you can see that a little in this), but it's probably damaging my guitar because it's not built for that.

@0liviaTeng Also, I use harmonics (chimes) a lot to mimic a lot of types of lighter sounds (sounds to the right of a music equalizer like in Media Player, Winamp, or iTunes), like certain guitar petals or keyboard noises. Here I use them in the introduction to Leavin' before Jesse starts singing (that I play in the middle of the cover instead). It's insanely tricky (along with the drum beat I'm trying to mimic at the exact same time), and today I still can't play it right!

It might sound like false modesty but really I'm just using a certain skill set in a niche you might not be used to it, so it sounds impressive but really isn't.. Like if your favorite rock band flubbed up their guitar riffs, rhythm, melody, even a little in concert or on a recorded CD, you'd be like WTF?.. but thanks =)

Hahah....that's funny because his name is "Tranq" for "tranquilizer" or "tranquility" 'cuz I got all bipolar and smashed my last guitar and it's a reminder not to be abusive again. These are actually very standard fingerstyle techniques but I'll ask him if it hurts and try to be less abusive ;-) (you should see the drum techniques I'm working on, that's worse. I want to try to design a guitar just to take them because they damage the biridge)
