Obviously you are a genius, known how to fix the environment and such. Like jonathan said, black smoke falls to the ground. The CO from your gas engine is a lot more harmful. The other smart thing you said is that cat converters will fix it. Cat converters do nothing to the smoke. Thats what a DPF does.

@jonathancasey19 since you asked I will enlighten you... your black smoke that you are so proud of, contains sulfur dioxide, NOx (way more than an equivalent gasoline motor), carbon monoxide, and plenty of other bad sh*t, diesel was about twice as efficient from a fuel consumption standpoint but the pollution that came out the tailpipe was way worse than a normal gas engine, hence DPF's, higher displacement engines to lower combustion temps, EGR, and SCR (urea) to start with

While that may be true, I guess I'll have to enjoy my old 2002 diesel that came straight from the factory with no catalytic converter, EGR, DPF, SCR or any other bullshit that every diesel enthusiast will remove the day they take their truck home. Maybe I'll buy a Prius to compensate.

@gimolis45 Diesel exhaust actually isnt as bad as it looks. Deisel is Carbon Dioxide, where as Gas vehicles are Carbon Monoxide. Tree's live on Carbon Dioxide. You could park a diesel vehicle in a closed garage, and you wouldn't die of poisining but it would smell horrible. Now if you parked a gas car in a closed garage, your asking for trouble. Look it up if you dont believe me! Driving a gas vehicle is actually MUCH worse than driving a Diesel vehicle. :)

I agree that a gas vehicle is worse for the atmosphere, but your 'closed garage' argument is not entirely true....the particulate matter in the soot is carcinogenic. So it may not kill you right then, but you may get lung cancer at 40 if you breathe enough of it.
