  • Well...this is pure music. If you can't feel the power in it, you are what is wrong with the world. Or at least part of of it. Or just Holy Yuck this is good $hit.

  • i love love love these guys, they are def my fav band rite now

  • Does anyone know the gear he used around this time? I must have this tone.

  • @tyronebigs2209 a tele, small tube fender amp (preferably tweed) or some kind of vintage amp, and a fuzz pedal. Around this time he used a tele into a cranked vintage ampeg gemini amp, while using a vintage maestro MFZ-1 fuzz pedal. At home I use a tele into my 60s silvertone1482 amp with a boutique maestro mfz-1 clone and get it pretty much spot on. a tele and fuzz through my brother's little tweed fender pro junior amp also gets some of auerbach's tones spot on as well.

  • @SmokeRingHalos where did you get the clone, or how would i go about making one?

  • @tyronebigs2209 i think ive seen him using a lot of super reverbs around this time, any cranked fender amp and a fuzz will get the job done, i use a tweed blues jr cranked all the way w/ no pedal and it sounds great

  • wow!!!!

  • man...its crazy to see how famous theyve became since then. i loved the big come up tho its one of my all time favs.

  • oooo hell yea! great live performance. just raw energy

  • @beenutz OMG thats what I thought when I saw them in Seattle . . I was like oooo so this is how people felt about Jimmy, but maybe it was just the mushrooms

  • I'd only been a casual Black Keys fan till I saw this video. Damn he kills it.

  • He does not use any picks in his blues playing, just thumb and finger, the pads of the finger, i've seen him live and its just traditional BLACK blues playing, not country and western white boy blues style

  • Can you say fuckin Woodstock is alive and well in the year 2011? Oh yeah.

  • The Black Keys rooooooooooooooock bro

  • all my stars ,,,and thank lilah fts ,,,,killer i favd

  • Rolling Stone's a rag. They never included Dan Auerbach on their 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. He could've been at least #100. They also failed to include Tommy Immanuel. Yet Kurt Cobain made the list as #12? I like Nirvana, but Kurt was more influential guitarist style-wise than actually a "greatest guitarist of all time." RS Mag? Complete idiots.

  • I think my mind just exploded.

  • this is great.would love these guys or someone like them to walk out on x factor or american idol and do this in front of simon cowell and all those arseholes and show them what real live music with no frills just pure passion is all about.REAL music for real people! FUCK manufactured pop shit! This is the kind of thing missing in the mainstream !

  • The beginning was soo brutal!!! Love it :)

  • thts great shit right there gotta love emos bar in austin tx.....

  • This video says its in akron, but the sign says Emo's, which is in Austin.

  • @dashamas3000 the video doesn't say akron, it says they are FROM akron, doesn't say they are PLAYING in akron.

  • what a rocking groove!! oh yeah

  • what a rocking groove!! oh yeah

  • These guys are just too excellent!! I love them love them rock n roll forever

  • That's an insane fuzz tone on the guitar. Totally face-melting.

  • You guys are so much better than OK Go

  • put me in such a friday moooooood yea baby.... cant wait for their new album in may!

  • @ChrisDorgan HELLS YEAH! MAY 18!

  • rock was saved by one person. but this is some excellent stuff

  • not to mention pat 2 but yeah its amazing

  • ROCK AIN'T FUCKIN' DEAD!

  • @Mannaggucamms whoever says rock is dead must have brain damage or something, rock has never even been near death.

  • @BlackVirusxz they probably just haven't listened to the black keys or Gov't Mule

  • @Mannaggucamms WANNA DO COKE SOME TIME

  • I foooooooooookin love this song

  • what chords are those!!!!!!! what chords are those!!!

  • E,G and A. mostly in E pentatonic

    easy but still so awesome

  • @maartnbaele he tunes down his guitar to drop d, and its in the key of d

  • Bluesy out the ass.

    What's not to love?

  • they need a live album real bad i dont no what there doing but there doing it right

  • badass to the max

  • straight finger pickin it. Extremly talented.

  • does he have a pick or is he just thumbing it?

  • Finger picks

  • @fiveliter302 he must have some gnarly calluses.

  • @andrew18651 He wears a thumb and a finger pick.

  • @andrew18651

he's using his fingernails as picks.

  • who knows what effects he is using?

  • It's called badass. Unfortunately, I think they're fresh out at guitar center.

  • iIt's groovy i just can't get enough, my head wont stop bangin' tothe beat and the drums are absolutely prime, it's my next big thing.

  • i enjoy both the keys and jacks bands, but both bands touch the blues in adifferent way and are very talented. i can see that and im just a fan with no musical ability. I just don't get why folks want to cram everything in a nice neat "labeled box" they are who they are and we should enjoy the sounds. Just my opinion.

  • Totally agree. Don't see why it's an either/or.

  • @ambrbeth annnnnnnnnnd your opinion is beautiful. i agree COMPLETELY with all of it!!

  • Well at least The black Keys have some sick ass drums, something the White Stripes cant really vouch for.

  • yea but did ya see megs sex tape!?!?!? =D

  • it aint meg ;)

  • i cant wait til they come back to the 9:30 club here in DC.

  • same but i dont wen that will ever be

  • This is the best music i've heard since Hendrix himself!!!:)

  • i love the way this guy strums/pics. it must have taken mad practice to be that precise n accurate.

  • holy fuck! this sounds like Robin Trower shit!!! these guys are fucking insane!!

    bang bang skeet skeet nigga

  • Indeed it does have the Hendrix style to it.

And a bit of White stripes.

I just found the black keys today.

    And i'll never stop listening.!!

  • i do not agree with you that they sound like the white stripes, they have way more power in their performance. the only reason why people make this comparison is because theirs two of them :}

  • and lots of fuzz, gotta love the fuzz lol

  • Its insane that they are compared. Both are awesome maybe thats why. Your also in insane to say they have more power then the white stripes. I insist you watch more live performances by Jack White while his playing in the white stripes, the raconteurs, the dead weather. Then you might rethink that. If not then you are crazy. Jack is insanely into each show and performance - not many people play with the kind of power Jack plays.

  • Also to solve the whole power issue, be sure to ask Dan what he thinks regarding that. He will throw it to ya about Jack.

  • the only reason they all sound so similar is cuz they're all blues rock...

scales might be similar but all unique :)

    love all of them

  • I think that if Hendrix were alive and heard these guys play he'd love 'em.

  • im pretty sure he would :)

  • what a jam that would be.

  • Would love to see them come to Green Bay and rock IQ's

    PeAcE.....

    :o)~~~

    RoCk oN

  • is this on DVD or anything, can i Download it somewhere?!?!? i would love to have this concert on record.

  • It used to be available a long time ago. Don't know how you would get a hold of it now.

  • @hendrixrocks4 CHECK THEIR MERCH SITE

  • junior kimbrough is the influence not hendrix do your homework

  • you cna hear hendrix in his playing man, im the main influence is junior kimbrough and i have heard a lot of his stuff and he is damn good, but he never used a fuzz like that, thats hendrix stuff man, thanks for your imput but you don't have to sound like an ass when doing so.

  • but your completely correct on his playing style it def kimbrough, but i was talking about the effects and feedback

  • Comment removed

  • Glorious. I was at this gig and wet myself with joy. I would gladly do it again, rock off.

  • this reminds me of the stripes after the fuzz turns off

  • i love this band . reminds me alot of hendrix these guys a legends already haha.. the guitar forsure put a Fuzz Pedal on his Destorton. but this bands just FUCKIN AWSOME!:)))

  • you can tell he's influenced by hendrix, man i love these guys, so far everything i've heard is worth buying, and thats saying something!

    HALLELUWAH!

  • junior kimbrough is the influence not hendrix

  • sorry, distortion

  • what distorsion they use?

  • essential !

  • I got well excited then! I thought they were covering Paul Weller! haha

    they're amazing! brilliant band!

  • the white stripes and the keys have there differences they are similer with there blueyness other than that they are totally different lets just say they both are two awesomly sweet bands!

  • closer to the devil's crossroad than the shit wipes!!!

  • dance rules

  • haha you suck - no one even bothered to give you a thumbs down for that lame attempt at provoking black keys fans

    lol

  • love dans tele

  • you can hear the blues influence strongly in this track, crossed with the heavy alt rock sound is just tasty as it gets

  • DELTA

  • noth band are amazeing me and mey friend devon are in a band simlar to both white stripes and black keys he prefers the black keys i prefer the white stripes but we both like them both and meg isnt the best drummer but she dieffintly adds the type of sound that there going for both band are awsome

  • Soul+Rock+Awesomeness=TBK :D

  • i dont listen to white stripes, but damn these guys are fuckin great me and my brother do this all the time wish we could make it like these dudes

  • why does evryone compare the black keyr to the white stripes, its totally different, ders allot of bands dat hav only two people. one thing that ive noticed is that there aint that many bad comments, most people likes them because of the pure oldskool sound :)

  • The Black Keys are awesome, the White Stripes are not. Meg White cannot drum, Patrick Carney is infinitely better. Jack White is okay, but he's much better in The Raconteurs. The choice between him and Dan is basically just personal preference, I think Dan is better.

  • ive been blinded by over-exposure to pure awesomeness!! :D

  • Dude. These guys grew up like right in my back yard. Just goes to show you how oblivious you can be sometimes. I went and watched them play w/ Devo for the Obama fundraiser. Amazing show.

  • I was at the DEVO/Chrissy Hynde/Black Keys show also. Great show! I was also at the Keys show the weekend before at EJ Thomas as well.

  • i wanted to go to that show i was at the ej thomas show. it was kick ass

  • @fiveliter302 my cousin had her high school graduation at EJ thomas

  • this is good why didnt anybody tell me

  • They're awesome!! Dont let the dumbasses below change your mind!!

  • i won't.. my dad taught me never to listen to dumbasses lol

  • Emo's in Austin...all the best gigs

  • akron, ohio, tire factories everywhere, these guys show it well, i love em

  • you all be whack. first off if it comes from the D let it be. second, they are all out there keepin it real so you best back off.

  • The best bands come from the shittiest towns! These dudes should be up there...good sounds.

  • shut the fuck up Akron is awesome

  • hmm, i love tbk and all but this riff sounds a bit too much like hello operator. listen...

  • its blues the riff is probly 60 years old

  • dont get mad cause u have sand in your pussy, this sound nothing like it and dipshits like you think just because theres two people in the band they sound like the white stripes take your bullshit somewhere else

  • Whoop Whoop Paul Seaforth in da house~! Yay Yay!!

  • i wish people would stop comparing this band to a certain other

  • jack white and meg are so much better, plus they have that whole thing going :

    1) Are they brother and sister

    OR

    2)Are they married? divorced?

Who knows? How can these guys start to compete. Its just like when paul faked his death and everyone knew for sure "The Beatles will now go down in history as the greatest band ever"

  • Married, started band, divorced, contuined band.

  • that, my friend, is what the suits want you to believe

  • Yes! the goatee makes Dan look like a pirate!

  • i hated this song on the album it was one i kinda just skiped past. but i love this version!

cant wait to these guys live again they are amazing. if you havent seen them live see them, if youve seen em live already, go again!

  • I thought this was the best song on the "The Big Come Up" album; "She said, she said" was the one I felt was bit misplaced for the album.

  • yer i guess. there other albums are better tho.

  • Like Thickfreakness, especially their cover of "Everywhere I go" by Junior Kimbrough.

  • This debate is all over the place. Here's what i say. When people ask me what i'm into i tell them, "I know what it's about these two 2 member bands but I love them, the white stripes and the black keys". Both of these bands are vastly different. I can't say which band i love more. They both blow my mind away consistently with how sick they are.

  • you can hear so many influences in these guys...hendrix, townshend, hooker, ect....awesome....

  • the drummer for the black keys is lightyears beyond the drummer from the white stripes

  • and??? isnt that the point of the white stripes??? but mad props to the black keys... oh so hood, as far as rocky blues go

  • To haz2evo I totally agree with everything you say. They are the dogs bollocks!

  • Here we go with another Youtube debate over who compares to who?Who gives a fuck, great tune ,great band!!

  • Screwdriver - The White Stripes

Little Bird - The White Stripes

Look those up and still tell me that the Black Keys don't sound anything like the White Stripes.

  • i agree with happy, they are totally different bands. and you obviously have never heard a white stripes album. the reason they use older equipment is because it sounds so much better for the type of music they play. anyone who enjoys oldies/blues can agree with me on that. plus the white stripes have been playing blues/rock for like over 10 years. the only comparison is the 2 people. its just good music man, you really cant call it a rip off because you dont listen to the white stripes

  • I own all the white stripes albums. The white stripes used pre-Beatles equipment to make their first 4 albums. You are the idiot, because this stuff sounds just like the stuff that came off of the white stripes early albums "The White Stripes" and "De Stijl".

  • That's BS. I own all the White Stripes albums also and if you think the Black Keys are copying then them you are deaf or a troll.

  • It's the internet, believe whatever you want to believe. All I am saying is that the black keys bluesy stuff sounds pretty similar to the white stripes bluesy stuff. But of course you are not going to agree, so whatever.

  • No you said they were a ripoff of the White Stripes which is very apparent that they aren't. Both groups have their own sound but by all means play the WS fanboy for everybody's amusement.

  • The Black Keys sound just like early white stripes, there is no denying that. The white stripes sound is way different from back then though.

  • They don't sound like the WS, early or now. The only thing comparable is that there are only two members in each band. If the BK's had three members you wouldn't even be on here talking this BS. Both groups are great and it's too bad your crush on the WS can't let you see that.

  • Sorry bud, but they do. especially guitars. Though this drummer is vastly better than meg.

Maybe YOUR crush on TBK won't let you see this.

Being somebody who doesn't really listen to these two bands, (but I know enough to hear what they sound like) I think I have a better viewpoint on this issue

  • You don't what your talking about thedistrict13. I like both groups and the garage sound in general. With your messed way of thinking I could say the White Stripes are nothing but a MC5 ripoff since they came out of the same area because we obviously aren't judging by the sound. Both the WS and the BK are great groups and some of y'all need to get a life and hearing aid.

  • I didnt say they were a ripoff bud.

    I said they sound similer.

I guess you didnt read my comment.

  • Wow...similar. You really went on a limb there bud. I know exactly where you were going, same as the rest of guys taking shots at TBK. TBK have their own sound, dig it or don't but don't come on here spouting nonsense.

  • Easy there buddy, I like the black keys

I'm just not part of the whole fanboy thing that gets defensive when people compare them to a similer sounding band.

  • nice post 3 months ago that i totally agree with.

    White Stripes = Awesome

    The Black Keys = Awesome

    Auerbach = Shredder

    J. White = Mega-Shredder

    M. White = Drummer

    Carney = Mega-Drummer

  • Wait, you mean that the white stripes used analog tape! Thats really original considering that HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF BANDS have recorded songs on analog. I guess they all are copying off of meg and jack too? Thats like saying the dinosaurs are copying something from us.

  • It's The Black Keys you guys....watch the video and stop crying !!!!

  • ha always looks sooo fucked up the guitarist

  • Not sure what this video has to do with the Stones or Zeppelin at all so take it somewhere else if you're going to argue about something unrelated.

  • All right people stop all the fussing I love most Rock n Roll but look at my name and u will figure out who my favorite Band is lol :D Stones..... but i still love some other bands too

  • thought maybe it was the restaurant...lol! just kiddin'...(look at my channel name!)

  • That name is so cool im in favor of the

stones hu!! or im in their corner! i wish i could have thought of that name :) "stonescourt"

  • this is a good band and i gave the video 5 stars but the fool saying that the Stones are overrated reeks of JEALOUSY Stones Own the rock music end of story !!!!!!!

  • you tell 'em, stonesgirl!

  • does anyone know where I could buy one of 'the black keyes' cds? Ive just found out about them, and I like them a lot. thanks for the help :)

  • um, from a cd store, all though your cd stores must not be very good if you have only just heard about them. or check out there web site, maybe on there.

  • i love the sound, can some1 mail me on how to get such a sound? many thnx

  • They really go for the lo-fi sound. Sounds sick though.

  • Damn, them boys are tearing it up. Nice.

  • fuck. amazing.

  • oh....and the black keys are fucking sick.

  • really nice quality thanks!!

  • excellent vid!...

  • so incredibly volatile and badass

  • The Stripes are a different type of breed. They aren't blues rock by any means, though they do play some. The Black Keys are amazing, that's all I have to say.

  • Yea, amazing as opposed to the white stripes.

    not a big stripes fan...

  • I was a huge one until I found these guys. I still dig some Stripes on occasion, but, come on.

  • Blues rock is deh best! They prove it man!

  • Yes these two little boys from Ohio Rock!
