Happy Mardi Gras! Nawlin's, My home sweet home. Man how I wish I was back home. Maybe one day,God willin but my heart is still there! Till then, Where yat Nawlin's, All my Love!
I see this was posted a year after Katrina. We're still not back 100% yet but in many ways we're better and the Quarter is jumpin' and now we have Frenchmen St with the real music for us locals. Even gettin' local gigs on St Claude. Jazz Fest and Mardi Gras are bigger than ever. 100% of the cruise ships are back in port and some have even upgraded. Sailing down the Mississippi River into the Gulf of Mexico and into the Caribbean. Obviously the most fun port to cruise out of. Dat who we are!
@9thWardJukebox Maybe next year i can make Fest for the first time since 2000 - from '87 to '94 i didn't miss a year ... then things got tight, moneywise...
Louisiana crawfish, LSU TIGERS, Cochon de lait, File' Gumbo, Mardi Gras, The SAINTS, Crabs, Boudin, Sauce Picaunte, Sugar Cane, Shrimp, Good fishing and hunting, Yes ma'ams and No sirs, Etouffees, Cypress Trees, Bon Fires, fried alligator and festivals...that's what's on my mind :) On my mind constantly!!

@bondservant007 if i wasnt goin to college in Alexandria i would so be gettin ready for some Mardi Gras, the first one im gonna miss. . .man this sucks
Cool video 007. "There's no place like home." New Orleans is one of a kind. I could almost taste the shrimp in that po' boy picture. " Yesss indeed" !
Back home January 1st 2011. Living on Derbigny St. in Treme. Workin wherever I have to. The exile is past. You never forget the old neighbors-I'll find 'em if they're still around, but the new ones will be just as wonderful. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose!
I love this song, Dr. John (sexy), New Orleans, the people and history. It's an artist palette of originality. The many precious times I've visited New Orleans it was coming home time for my heart and soul.
Nobody could sing it better than Dr. John! Had the pleasure of watching him perform before there was ever a big girl world for me, standing backstage at "The Aragonne" in Chicago, thanks to a friend who was an "Andy Frain" usher. Here's a really nice "N'Awlens" song with a nice little video as again today we're all with the Gulf residents in spirit.
Who Dat!!!! As An English musician, living in Spain, my time in New Orleans this February, for Mardis gras, the superbowl, the whole damn thing - was AMAZING!! I love this city, and could live there in a heartbeat. It is still, even after all the tribulations, the jewel in America's crown.
Once New Orleans adopts you, you can never belong to any other place--New Orleans is my HOME no matter where I have to live since Katrina. You can force the woman out of New Orleans but you can NEVER force New Orleans out of THIS woman!! PROUD MEMBER OF THE WHO DAT NATION!! Love you Dr. John and all our wonderful musicians--best in the world.
The longer I stay away - even since I left Rummel in 1966 - it's a world apart, on a different wavelength, in a quirky key, lived like no other place in the world. "Brother Clarence" (James P. Thanx for a lovely video that show's something besides floodlines... Sorry, but I live here and for the most part, we're over it. NoLa is about so much more than a storm...
(please y'all, don't go off on the phrase "over it" unless you know how we mean it here in the city... )
What an inappropriate thing to say to someone whose entire family lost their homes to Katrina and had to relocate, but who also still have hundreds of family members who are still there. My children are included.
Where am i? living in a little beach town that hasnt had a murder or robbery since ive been here(3.5 yrs.) Im only 3 hrs. from N.O. my daughter goes to a public school that doesnt have metal detectors and security guards. Thats where I am. Making a better life for my family.
new orleans used to be a beautiful city to live. Now its a cesspool of gangsta rap bullshit. sorry to say that but its the truth. I used to live there as well. Its cool to visit and reminice but after about an hour there, you realize that its all just memories. Memeories that stay good if you stay away from todays new orleans.
Everytime I get homesick I go back for a day or 2. But there is NO way I would move back, and Im 4th generation NOFD. Not 1 person in my family is there anymore.
Not necessarily, it all depends on what part of New Orleans. There are still many wonderful artists there. I hate the gangsta rap too, it definitely doesn't belong.
@bondservant007 So because somebody lost their home we should all be blind to the truth? Shame on you, may you never block the truth again - then you will truly be blessed.
@Academic1Researcher how sweet of of you, I didnt go to collAge like you, but I do believe I would have to have been born with this congenital heart defect since congenital means something you were born with. That being said, EAT A DICK AND DIE.
@swollengoat906 i was just messing with you and yes i know what congenital means i said it to be dumb lol on purpose and no im not in collage im 16 but ill be there soon and i said the stock phrased cliché about the voodoo as a joke referring to our culture its a joke no harm intended but yeah i will always love New Orleans ^_^
This is a magnificent collection of artifacts. The collection here helps me to feel N'orleans. Of course, Dr. John makes the collection complete. Never been there, but can see the allure--thanks to this rendition. Cheers!
