Watch this video carefully, you will realise that after a solo by Walter Davis jnr, Freddie,Johny & Curtis wanted to play & Art changed the beat of drums & thats when they stopped & allowed Reggie Workmen to play his solo. This is what I call the art of music.
I began enjoying jazz after I watched the DVD of Blue note artists. It was my late father`s (May his soul rest in peace) DVD. Tenor Sax-Johny Griffin,Trumpet-Freddie Hubbard,Trombone-Curtis Fuller,Piano -Walter Davis jnr,Bass-Reggie Workman & on drums is my hero, Art Blakey.

@AlexBooya1 It's a beret, with holes cut in it for the sound. I guess it's to protect the horn's lacquer and plating from mic-stand scratches, but I agree it looks odd. I've seen Julian Preister use one too.
PS God Bless Art Blakey, we shall never again be shuffled quite that way. Miss you, Bu!
This was so welcome.
Masters of soul jazz in recent years, 1985.
All wonderful.

Whenever freddie plays and is really diggin into what he's playing, it looks like he is eating a really good sandwhich.

2:33 to 2:56 defines jazz. The expression on Blakey's face can't be explained in words....
