I appreciate that they shook things up and kept Berkeley weird, but these people could have formed a mission to Cambodia and reforested hectares upon hectares of cleared minefields in the time they spent on this futile effort.

The university owns the land anyway so the whole thing is moot. They can do whatever they want with their land. UC Berkeley went to great lengths to save huge Redwoods by building around them when they built the RSSP building and some of the new housing.

I find it interesting that Northern California touting about progressive ideas and envionmental concerns can't even agree to saving one plot of oak groves. If you want to know how the folks who really are from Berkeley feel just take a look at a Google map of the area. One satellite shot tells the whole story. Anyone can see that UC Berkeley is responsible for clearing more trees out of Berkeley than any other land owner. Berkeley residents just want Berkeley to continue to be Berkeley.

As a born and raised Berkeleyan, I can tell you we are all dying for these drama queens, who are most likely not from around here, to please go home and find some deeper meaning in their lives. Or better yet, go somewhere else and plant a whole BUNCH of trees. Many hardworking students break their butts to get into this school on athletic scholarships and the protesters are too elitist to care if they have a training facility or not.
