  • We traveled this road dozens of time in 1954-55, usually in a rented Fiat. Most memorable stop was at ??? where we climbed some distance up to a monastery and had cactus beer (GAG) with the monks. Massawa, of course, was always our destination and the (was it Ciaao) Hotel with those slow turning Sidney Greenstreet fans.
