DeVotchKa - "Venus In Furs" - Live at 2007 Swerve Festival

It seems like the only reason people hate this cover is because they expect it to sound like the original. Listen to it as a song by DeVotchka, not DeVotchKa playing someone else's song and you might change your mind. The original really is a great piece but DeVotchKa does an incredible job of making it their own. I'd rather hear a band do this sort of thing than do a note by note copy of the original.

Seen them dozens of times both here in Denver and when I was in SLC. They are a solid bunch of performers. Most people have no idea that 3 of the members have degrees in music. Not yer average Rock Band by any means. They are certainly a great band to watch live.

They captured the sound of Bohemia....but not The Velvet Underground.  It is good in its own right, but not as a cover....doesn't mean I don't love Devotchka or The Velvet Underground, they are just two completely different versions. I do give Devotchka credit for capturing the sound of Leopold Von Sacher Masoch's era.
