Thanks for this opinion. I had a turbinate reduction and polyp removal last week. When we set up the surgery, my ENT did not want to touch the septum as he thinks that the removal of the polyp (it was huge) and the turbinate reduction would allow the septum to correct itself enough over time that it wouldn't be worth the surgery.
Getting surgery for a deviated septum is just a way for doctors to make money. It won't make your life change in the way that you hope. Save your money.
I had septoplasty done 1.5 years ago. Recently, I have to go to see doctors due to a recurring nasal congestion, especially my right nostril. The doctors are telling me that my septum is deviated to the right! However, prior to the surgery, my septum was deviated to the left. Plus, I have been having a weird sensation on my right nostril. Is this all normal or the surgery itself was an unsuccessful one? Thanks.
great video....i had a deviated septum had surgery for it which actually made my condition worse...my septum deviated even more. The surgeon actually operated on the wrong nostril..two years later had the same surgery done over again by another surgeon hoping that this guy knew what he was doing...it worked the second time...very painful and uncomfortable surgery but now i can enjoy the rest of my life!!!!
I am 21, and my nose has been study since I was like 13. I have been fatigued ever since. I toss and turned during sleep, and have trouble getting out of bed. My nose is congested most upon awakening.
My ENT tells me that I have a deviated septum which is blocked almost 80%. Is this normal?? Also, if at all I have to undergo a surgery, should I go I traditional way or is laser procedure any better.
i had a deviated septum and then i had surgery and after the surgery i still cannot breath and it has been four years since the surgery !!!!!!!! i have been taking afrin to breath at night i cannot go back to the doctor because i have no insurance yeah that is how it is but i am not complaining
I don't know about it being a myth....I had surgery for it back in December 2006, they removed my adenoids at the same time, and then two years later removed my tonsils. Life has been so much better since the surgery, right inside my nose the tissue is more sensitive, so I can no longer use nasal sprays for my allergies, but I went from having a stuffy nose all winter long and a sinus infection almost every month, to having like 3-4 a year at the most.
I had 2 deviated septum surgeries and turnbonectomy(sp?) second for scar tissue and I had pulled out a stitch. thanks no more sinus pain or infections. Worth it! My nose was numb for 6 months but worth it in the long run.
@sidereally Had the same thing, had the operation for it and it fixed the problem, be very careful after the operation even bending over can make your nose bleed, and fuck up the operation.
@TTibble he is programmed to blink appx. once every 10 seconds..if he is running on a low battery...it will actually throw the timing off and extend the time in between blinks..
i got kicked in the face as a teen and can't breathe out of one nostril barely at all ever since. my nose is also crooked. this is not a myth. :-/
this vid is somewhat misleading. yes, there can be other causes to nasal issues. but no, it's not a 'myth' - by definition, that would would mean it's never real....
Then how come there are so many video's of people saying they had surgery for a deviated septum problem and they can breath so much better through their noses now? Many said they couldn't even breath through their noses or not much at all but can now. Its kind of hard to dismiss this as a myth when real people are putting on video's after their surgery saying how much better they are now.
@moonglow38 tt would be because in their cases it was the cause of breating obstruction, not in every case wich is wat tis doc is saying. Also, bear in mind thtat some nose ops invilve widening the internal nasal valve with grafts

I tried to lay on my back but it's impossiple for me to fall asleep that way, allthough i allways seem to wake up on my back weird enough.
I have a crooked nose with the septum pointing more left than normal i can feel that my right nostral is very sensitive and when the doctor put the periscope in there to check how it looked i fell very uncomfortable.
I also have a huge wound in there and have been burned with acid twice by the doc to close it.
This guy is talking out of his ass. I have flimsy nostrils (they look like paper cuts) and i got a the surgery. I got the packing taken out today and I've never breathed better
@mphof74 Yes, my nose was totally fucked off on the left nostril, after the operation i could breath 100 % and the only drawback was the painkillers doped me up and i was too rough on my nose during recovery so i need another small operation, my left side seems to have a floating piece of plastic that blocks the airway, but it can be solved with a breathstrip or small paper clip, still very annoying to have to use those things.

My left nostril feels weird, but only when I'm conscious of it, or when I get cold, allergies, ect. As with most people, checked out the doctor who said it was severe. He literally told me to wait until I get into a more important accident to fix it, otherwise it's a waste of money lol. man I could start a long rant on healthcare... I wonder if this may be the cause of more high-pitched voice?
i hate doctors like this they find a good excuse to say averyone have a Deviated Septum or a nose problem , i had breathing problems all my life i contantly pick it because i cant breath, i wakeup in the midle of the night wondering why cant i breath sometimes i bleed for no reason and i have lots of wax on my ears no matter how often i clean it... everytime i go and get check they tell me there is nothing wrong with it by the looks of it but really you can tell its not even straight!!!
@ABurntPenguin same here, apparently when i hit puberty my septum grew crooked which made my right nostril almost completely closed at the top, which maked post nasal drip 24/7, headaches, stomachaches, bad breath, im getting surgery though on June 28, and I cannot wait
@YuTu13e sweet , iv had two operations , one on each nostril . But im planning on getting a bigger operation in a year or two , whenever i stop playing contact sports. There going to break my nose bone and then straighten it. What are u getting done , cauterised? or getting ur bone broken ? . I wish u the best of luck :p
Ok I understand everything you have said, I was born with a very noticeable deviated septum and it has been collapsing more throughout the years it to to the point now one nostril is closed off completely, it is just now starting to cause problems but I am petrified to get it fixed is it ok to just let it be?
I have a deviated septum... and thats why I can't breath. My scans of the inside of my passageways look like a "Z". I would have a hard time believing the "doctor" could honestly tell me that my deviated septum has nothing to do with my breathing.
@phreekfire I think you're misunderstanding what I said. I'm not saying that a deviated septum doesn't exist. In fact, fixing a deviated septum is one of the most common procedures that I perform, usually with great results. What I wanted to point out in this video is that there are a number of other reasons besides your deviated septum that can aggravate nasal congestion, and unless you deal with all these issues, sometimes fixing the septum alone won't help you to breathe better.

Question: I have a quiet voice, when I try to talk loudly it feels like I'm running up against a wall. It feels like the sounds energy is having a hard time leaving my face and I think I can feel the reverberation from it. It goes without saying that I stay quiet in moderate to loud places. Is this caused by a deviated septum? Is there any medical condition like DS that would cause my seemingly abnormal quiet voice? Thank you!
Yeah, it's called see a REAL ENT, have him/her diagnose the problem to learn if you are a candidate for surgery & if so, have it done. I had so many sinus infections prior to my surgery some 20+yrs ago I had become immune to many reg & high-dose antibiotics. Afterwards, I could breath & within 10yrs I was no longer immune to high-dose & 10yrs later I can take standard antibiotics depending on infection w/o fear of maxing out where no AB will work. My surgery was worth it, I'd do it again.
Hey Doc. I was wondering, I had a rhinoplasty about 4 years ago. Everything went well for about the first two years. But recently the side on which my nose was operated on is getting stuffed to the point were I can only breathe through one nostril again. Why is this happening?
keep eating crisps n toast, don't pussy out on soft stuff. don't drink apple juice- that hurts, for ages! do drink water, black coffee, lucozade etc. only. if you omit the painkillers do keep taking the anti-inflammatories. keep drinking! sip all day. sleep on the couch in clothes and blanket (my tip). keep chomping and swallowing no matter how much it kills! Remember, if you eat you can reward yourself with drugs! no milk or ice-cream. yogurt is ok, tho have something after.
these people just want nose-jobs. My septum was straight before being punched in the nose and I couldn't breathe through it anymore and it would fold in on one side. The surgeon made a correction but my septum is still very deviated. It was the recent tonsillectomy that has vastly improved my nasal breathing; I thought my adenoids must have been removed but my surgeon told me not.
@trwilli24 honestly, i don't know. one of the things i noticed post-op was when i was drinking with my head tilted forward slightly that some was coming out my nose. I thought 'that's new' and looked it up. Removal of adenoids seemed the answer. But I asked my surgeon and he said he hadn't , checked my nose breathing with a spatula and said i had good airways through my nose. Trust me, it was the very first thing I noticed, that I could breathe in through my nose 10x better whilst on the bed....
@jimmicreesti haha well that's good news. it looks like i need mine out as well, what was the recovery like? how long did it take for you to get back to normal?
@trwilli24 not gonna lie. 1st 2 days no problem, still high. I had my Tramadol (painkillers & serotonin release agent - think E), Diplofenac (anti-inflammatory) and Co-Dydramol (Codein painkillers). I kept knocking myself out on Tramadol - fun! Eating and drinking water then got progressively harder. I'd cut out the drugs by the end-of-the-week though I should have kept on the Diplofenac - that was my mistake. (My mum explnd it better). I'm 33 - 2to3 weeks sort of. You still recover after ths
i am currently undergoing neurocranial construction and it is actually aligning my deviated septum (x ray shows it is deviated). i have had a number of accidents, even have a scar on my nose from one of many accidents and it is getting straighter. as a child, my nose was straight and now it is crooked, due to accidents. can you explain?
When a deviated septum is "congenital", it is caused by compression of the nose during childbirth. C-Section newborns are not pushed through the vaginal wall, so therefore, it will not cause a deviated nasal septum. These are the cold facts!
You have no study, findings, or evidence of this matter! You are replacing your own opinion with a medical fact (deviated nasal septums causes serious problems if left untreated.)
To the uploader: YouTube freely allows you to post videos online, but you have no right to post things which are misleading to the public. Where is the study, findings, and evidence of How Deviated Nasal Septums Cannot Cause Problems?
I am having surgery Thursday to correct my deviated septum. It is pushed completely to the right after a punch I took as a boxer 20 years ago. I am a little nervous about it but it is long overdue.
omg in additition?? ive always had a deviated septum and it fuking sucks have u ever had a totally deviated septum?? if u dont u dont know what u are talking about
I have the problem with my throat being small and my tongue falling back, but my doctor says that opening up my airway through my nose and sinuses may fix the issue.
i can actually feel my deviated septum but somtimes i can breathe but sometimes i stuffed so bad that i feel suicidal, im having this surgey done i wonder if it will work
hey bigdud, i know the feeling. i have had trouble breathing for the best part of 40 years. i went and had the surgery 8 days ago.
bottem line, i feel like a different person! i can breath through both sides of my nose and i can smell things i could never smell before. i had the awful packing removed 4 days post-op. the splints come out next tuesday. i'm told in 3 months i will be completly healed. good luck!
Thanks for this opinion. I had a turbinate reduction and polyp removal last week.

Do not confuse the two words: "perfect" and "proper."
Perfect leads to destruction. Proper leads to function.

I am having surgery Thursday to correct my deviated septum. It is pushed completely to the right after a punch I took as a boxer 20 years ago. I am a little nervous about it but it is long overdue.

I have the problem with my throat being small and my tongue falling back, but my doctor says that opening up my airway through my nose and sinuses may fix the issue.
