  • I would rate GLOCK # 1 in 9mm or .40 for guys and for the ladies Ruger GP 100 or SW 2 1/2" 357Mag Mod 586 loaded with 38 special. But again everyone have their own preferences.

  • what kind of grips are those on your 1911? really looking to replace mine and those are the best looking so far.

  • It wasn't on display here, but I'd give my vote to the Beretta 92. It shines in accuracy, reliability, durability, reputability, and ammo capacity, even though its 17 round capacity (92A1) and 5" barrel make it a little bulky for conceal carry purposes. It also has a light rail (92A1), which is great for defending in the dark. It gives you what you need when you need it, plus it's sexy looking, like most Italian products. If its looks don't grab you, its reputation should be enough.

  • @ZanderG89 I do have a 92FS, and it's a fine handgun. Thanks

  • cant go wrong with a Glock. It will never fail you

  • @ExecutionerThe All things mechanical can fail

  • @GunznGear

True but the glock is the AK47 of pistols, you can count on it do the job and not let you down

  • i think this is a great video i agree with you with using a larger size gun to get a good grip on i keep a ruger p90dc on my nightstand...what do you think about the p90

  • @TheSickman99 I have always been a fan of Ruger firearms. The P90 will not win any beauty contests, but they work well, and that's what counts.

  • @GunznGear this is my second one i had the p89 9mm but i wanted something bigger and since i loved my p89 so much i just got the p90 ive had it for about a month now and still havent fired it yet but its my baby that is until i can afford a 1911 lol

  • no no no not a handgun just a squad of snipers a couple of mile away from ur home

  • Now, you mentioned the 10mm as a good home defense caliber. My father, who is a man retired from the army after 20 years of service, has a 10mm as his personal carry and go to home defense pistol. And in the year or so that he has had it, I don't think he's been out to the range nearly as often as he'd like to or, in my opinion, should. His reasoning behind this is the price and availability of the 10mm ammunition.

I love the 10mm, but should I opt for a more available caliber?

  • @TheFallenWind In my area, 10mm ammo is ample in several gun shops. Even if your area doesn't have a lot of 10mm ammo, a quick google search will provide many options. 10mm is not as cheap as 9mm, but it seems to be priced similar to 45acp, so I don't believe it is too cost prohibative. Reloading is another option to bring down the price of practice ammo.

  • excellent video sir. i just turned 21 and i am thinking about getting my concealed, but im not sure what handgun i would purchase. ive shot a .45 and it was a little too powerful for me to feel comfortable carrying. i really love the look of the s&w m&p .40. would you suggest that gun as my first handgun? also, when it comes to compact or fullsize im not sure which would be better.

  • @slynnb124 Choosing a handgun for CCW depends on several factors. I would think that one of those factors is the persons experience w/ firearms. The 40sw is a fine defensive round, but it can be a little snappy in some of the smaller or compact guns. I have the standard size M&P 40, and I think it's a great shooting gun. I think you should try to find examples of both sizes that you can shoot, and see which one appeals to you.

  • im black

  • @JONGUNS21 and why does that matter???

  • Hey GunznGear Saw you asked @Vectoreenio a question then blocked his free speech on the great american invention that is the internet, is that what you have come to. And I know your are paranoid about home invasion, you just wont admit it. If you block me or delete this message you are acting like a commie government, and you hate commies don't you?

    Thanks for reading this.

  • @FactorZ3R0 You, like many other moronic POS jerks, mistakes saying whatever you want, with the First Amendment right of Free Speech. You have a right to free speech, but not in My livingroom!! This is my channel, and I will decide who has the privledge to interact here. Your attempts to position me in a specific direction are quite pathetic. You probably try to get your way by throwing a tantrum and crying. That may work with your Mommy, but not in life outside your parents house!

  • @GunznGear Well I'm sorry that throwing a tantrum worked for you when you were 12 and made you grow up like this. But I'm not 12 and and I don't throw tantrums so you must of hit your head once with the recoil of the shotgun you use to defend your lawn from convicted criminals you live next to in the shanty town. And besides your living room is the great USA and you want to be like the heroic Republicans so you should have free speech everywhere.

  • @FactorZ3R0 Run along little boy, and remember to wash behind your ears!!

  • @GunznGear PS I'm using punctuation so that means I'm not 12 and I have never owned a gun and live a happy life

  • @FactorZ3R0 Aren't you special! I'm sure your Mommy is very proud...

  • @FactorZ3R0 I apologize, I didn't realize you were just a child. Leaving comments like this is not very nice young man! Someday you will learn in school, about the Constitution, and hopefully you will be able to comprehend it's meaning. Now run along and ask your Mommy to give you a cookie.

  • Nice video man, You are the one that really understand guns. Lots of people dont like the 40sw, but i think it is a good caliber. Thankyou for the video

  • @linlinwolrf I pick on the 40sw sometimes because of the history of why it was developed, and my fondness of the 10mm. As I type this, I'm carying a 40sw, so I obviously think it is a capable chambering. Thanks

  • Why getting a handgun when you can get a shotgun :D!

  • @jpnmusic2 I think the shotgun rules for home defense, but many folks only want a handgun. I keep a hangun loaded for home defense also, as a backup for my shotgun.

  • BEST VIDEO.. VERY WELL SAID !!

By far, the best home defense firearm video I've seen out of 30. Excellent point made regarding the matching of skill, use and firepower.

    BUT... should be more informative!

  • @ZBeckley23 Thanks! There's much to discuss on this subject, and I just uploaded a vid concerning capacity.

  • all handguns are horribly underpowerd. they are called side arms for a reason.

get a shotgun or even a carbine as your primary HD weapon

  • @HunterKiller308 go get shot and then tell me that handguns are horribly under-powered. just because they aren't a .50 cal browning doesn't mean it wont stop anybody who decides to do harm to you, and honestly that is the real reason most people keep handguns in the home.

  • @xzadious compaired to rifle and shotgun rounds, yes handguns are horribly underpowerd, im not saying they cant take out a threat effectively, but i dont want to have to dump my mag in someones chest to drop them, as multiple rounds on target is true stopping power, why do you think buckshot is so effective?

handguns are secondary weapons, they are for back up. only a moron would use a handgun over a shotgun as a home defence weapon given the choice.

  • Nice guns. I think all you'll need is 9mm and a revolver. That's all I want. It's slightly interesting to get all technical about it, but any one of those guns would be effective for self defense.

  • @Kevvo2011 To each their own

  • @GunznGear Yeah, I prefer the handguns over rifles and shotguns. Even though I wouldn't mind having a good rifle though. I like handguns because you can access them easier in the event of a random home invasion.

  • @Kevvo2011 yeah i agree i also prefer a handgun for HD...45 acp hi cap. is always loaded on my closet..i dnt believe it has less stopping power..try to put 3 rounds on somebody's torso and he can testify how powerful it is i guess....

  • I want to be Johnny English... Soooo i know what im picking ^^

  • go taurus!

  • @GunznGear , How Old Do You Have to Be To Buy A Gun at A Gunshop ? Do You Need a License ??

  • @GlockPainDeath Check your local laws

  • @GlockPainDeath Federal law: 21 for handguns, 18 for long guns. License, waiting period, etc. depend on the state.

  • beautiful collection, or whatever you call it ahah

  • @periplatipus Thanks

  • thats a hell of a revolver

  • Mkay? Mkay mkay. Mr Macket

  • @GunznGear god pitty the idiot who tries to steel your wifes purse !!!!

  • @lukeBishopp Especially if she's having a bad hair day!!!

  • nice video. my dad carries the H&K USP .45 and its and amazing gun. The D/A pull is just an absolute BEAR though. I plan on getting a 1911 for my CCw in a few years.

  • @DirtRider500R I think both, the HK USP and the 1911 are great!! Thanks

  • who the fuck still carries a .41 magnum

  • @heffythedon I think it's a great chambering, and I own seven of them!!

  • My dad carries a G17 always. He loves it and its extremely durable. It is chambered in 9mm and it has never jammed or let him down. It is a good handgun for personal defense

  • @Odofire Your Dad has certainly chosen a fine handgun! Thanks

  • I keep a Glock 20 with full load Hornady JHP's.

  • @floridafyme The 10mm is a great round, and one of my favorites! Thanks

  • I actualy live on base in virginia. I remember when we made the switch to the sig because the berettas slides would fly right off into your face. I personaly have had this expirience. Your not a real SEAL until youve tasted italian steel

  • @navyseal890 I think you may be mistaken. According to your channel, when you were in elementary school, the SEALS were already using the Sig P226. On what base and section do you live. I have several friends who are or were SEALS, one of which, is a Commander and a team leader.

  • I personaly love the sig p226 as home defense and my carry weapon. Its size, caliber, takedown and durability is great. Ever since I joined the teams and picked it up it has been my favorite for any challenge a pistol is needed

  • @navyseal890 Sig makes an outstanding handgun! I live in Norfolk, VA, are you around here?

  • i will chosse the glock

  • @TheLtsergio Glock makes a good gun

  • Too bad my dads choice is a freaking .44 magnum. Im home alone alot.

  • i have a 22 colt 1911 would that be a good home defense and im only 15 so is it good

  • love the colt peacemaker, what a classic

  • i call dibs on the sp101 =)

  • @redhotchilininja LOL That Ruger is a great little gun. Thanks

  • i really like that classic revolver on the upper left corner !!!

  • @ORENGEcarot Thanks, I like a nice single action revolver myself!!

  • Is America really that dangerous? When I go camping I take bug spray for self defence. Is the gun-for-camping mainly to defend against bears/mountain lions or nut job people?

  • @jimioutback Bug spray is very important!!! As for the rest of your comment, camping is great, but there's rare chance you could run into dangerous animals/people. You might encounter rabid critters, or predators, or as you stated "nut job ppl" Here in the U.S. we still have the freedom to use a firearm for defense, if we so choose. Thanks

  • @jimioutback Even In Canada, I carry a shotgun with me when camping. And by camping im not talking a RV park or provincial/national park, but actual bush waking and real man camping.

  • @jimioutback compared to Europe, America still has a lot of untamed wilderness and with it's associated dangerous wildlife, whether it be bears, mountain lions, or snakes, one could make a valid argument about carrying gun into the field for protection. also some areas have special considerations. for instance, where I live in AZ, not only do we have large cats to be aware of, but we do have drug runners from Mexico that will do whatever it takes to protect their drugs if spotted.

  • Comment removed

  • Regarding the 10mm auto comment. The reason the FBI and later law enforcement agencies went to the .40 S&W is because of the mixed force (read: male & female). The 10mm auto is one hell of a hot round, and is simply too much for some shooters to handle. While I've shot .45 ACP and have great respect for the round, I have a hard time handling it. Since the best thing is to have confidence in your weapon, I prefer the .40 S&W because it's easier for me to handle with confidence.

  • @ERAUsnow I give a more detailed account of the short time frame in which the FBI issued the 10mm handguns to it's personel in other vids specificaly concerning the 10mm. I also discuss the events leading up to the adoption of the 10mm,(like the Miami shoot out in1983). FBI requested lighter power ammunition due to some agents that were incapable in handling the powerful round and the lg frame guns that were chambered for it. I also briefly discuss how that lead to the creation of the 40sw.

  • Nice collection, Good advice. Myself, I keep a Kimber Pro Carry Stainless in .45acp. for defense, And a Sprinfield M6 Scout for a "bug out" situation. I completely agree with everything you said.

  • @SirThunderPants Those M6's are really neat, I've never seen anything like that long trigger thingy it uses. Thanks

  • I really, Really, REALLY like your 1911 sir = )

  • @drskeetenstein Thank you!!

  • Your kidding me!! You mean the single action Vaquero, with a loading door in the back for single round extraction and loading wouldn't be your first choice for home defense!! Bwahahahaha!!

  • @dow3312 With everything I discussed in this vid, that was what you commented on?....Nice....

  • @GunznGear Hahahaha Yeah I had to, I agree with 95% of what you said. I just couldn't believe you even took the time to tell us you wouldn't use the vaquero for self defense. I was a gunsmith for years to put my self through my undergrad and grad school. We had guys that would come in and shoot the heck out of the vaquero, people love them. I never really got it, but to each his own. I listened to what you said, you sound very knowledgable. I just disagree with your opinion on the 10mm.

  • @dow3312 LOL I get a kick out of what different ppl like and dislike. Believe it or not, I do know a guy who CCW a single action revolver.

I've been a 10mm fan since the late 80's. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I've truly enjoyed owning and shooting mine. Thanks

  • @GunznGear Oh yeah, no doubt. I like the 10mm a lot. I just think its such a hot round that it can be dangerous in home defense. I mean, thast one HOT round. If I was going camping I would definitely want one with me. For home defense Im a 1911 guy through and through.

As far as the single action vaquero goes, me and my old boss would laugh when people carried them, but at the end of the day you've gotta admit that .45 colt would be a horrible round to have slung at you by a crazy old guy!!

  • @dow3312 I love the 1911!!! I own a bunch of them chambered in several calibers, but mostly 45acp.

The 45 long colt has protected many folks for a very long time. I sure wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of one either!! Thanks

  • GG, from your experience what 10mm handguns would you recommend for defense?

  • @Jaxx137 I really like the 1911 platform, and any of the models from Kimber Colt or STI are of good quality. If you like polymer frames, nothing beats the Glock.

  • go for a glock 17. or a 1911

  • mkay

  • @inter5891 lol i was gonna comment that :P

    dang you :D

  • @inter5891 lmfao

  • Hrm, my 7 year old neighbour walks in my house anytime he want, without me knowing (I have a wii, ps3, you name it, i got it!) and my 7 sons live with me... the oldest being 16 and the youngest is 4... so you can understand my neighbour in a way, but i need a way tto make him Knock on my door, my door doesn't lock at the moment, ao i now know what i need.... a little some thing with amunitions

  • @tobiaspetvin I'm not sure the meaning of this comment. First your channel says you live in Great Britan, and you are 18yrs old. 7 sons??? Secondly, making any remarks of using "a little something with amunitions" to deal with a 7yr old is too ludicrous to respond to. Buy a lock!

  • @tobiaspetvin Are you crazy? Your comment is so out of line it's despicable!!! Go back to your moms basement and don't come out again.

  • in home defense ill choose a uzi machine gun, so if someone gets in my house he ill end up full of holes.....

  • @ElFreakolo An Uzi will definetly "gid r done" but just remember there may be a lawyer attached to every bullet you fire!! Thanks

  • @ElFreakolo if only obtaining an uzi would be so easy. well, you could always convert a glock to a full auto, (much cheaper) but that'd be very illegal, which is entirely your business =) i'd use a 17c with a 33rd mag

  • good vid i agree with almost every thimg you said. i personally keep a glock 27 and i have a 12 gauge under my bed + i always have a good knife at my side

  • @mumbo223 Shotguns rule for home defense!! Thanks

  • ....another nice vid. You should add that you can shoot them with the .380 while beating the brakes off of'em with the Model 57. All joking aside your spot on with the comments on over-penetration. Gotta be too careful if you were to use any of the magnums within the confines of your home. Anyone that's ever fired a "magnum" regardless of caliber, even the little .22 Mag should know those things go until they hit something solid enough to stop'em....and drywall won't qualify. Thanks for posting.

  • @55slice Great comment, thank you, and Merry Christmas!!

  • I'd like the first one on the last row :D

  • @MrRabidCat Haha 41 mag is awesome! Thanks

  • @GunznGear Hehe, wouldn't like to have one of those bullets shot at my head it would probably explode :D

  • you americans are scared of getting house invaded, so much for a free land

  • @Vectoreenio I cannot speak for others, but I'm not scared of a damn thing! How's the gun restrictions doing in freedom loving Australia???

  • @Vectoreenio easy crocodile dundee!

  • shotgun is best for homedefense. Nothing says get out like the rack of a mossberg 500 crusier. also ,you dont want to go to jail for killing your neighbor. But if i had to use a handgun, id choose a judge, w/.410 pdx ammo

  • @doomsdaymachine619 I certainly agree that shotguns rule for Home Defense!! Thanks

  • I like my Taurus Judge. 45LC or 410 shotgun shells.

  • Gnar

  • Glock 30?

  • @SouljaSolo Kinda small for my taste, but it's a good gun.

  • @GunznGear yep

  • Mr. Mackey....M'Kay

  • m'kay......

  • before i watch this video i wanna say something. "this is how i choose a handgun for home defense" he says.... the answer is "buy one of everything and lay them out on my bed and shoot a video about it"

  • @Breakneckhydra1 Okay, so my stats may be off, however the point on the dog still applies, if you've got a dog they are less likely to intrude as the dog is a sure fire alarm system and if its correctly train it will respond to a home invasion by attacking the invader, hell most dogs will attack a threat to their owner. Also most home intruders don't go in with a gun, so if you shoot them and they're unarmed, even if its on your property you can still be classified as committing murder.

  • alright! 1911 fan, i shoot a kimber gold combat loaded with WIN ranger 45+P by far the best cal ive shot considering ammo cost, availability, and control. not over powered or snappy.

have you done a video discussing ammo?

  • @Demo7IIRider No, I haven't done a vid on 45acp ammo, but I will be doing a some vids on defensive handguns and defensive ammo soon. Thanks

  • @GunznGear Does that glock have alot of recoil?

  • @MrIdk44 Recoil is subjective, but I don't think it has much recoil at all.

  • @GunznGear Oh ok thanks.

  • I'm 16, I have spent a lot of time around firearms but not much with handguns. My father travels a lot and my mom is scared of guns so I feel that I need to be the protector. However, my dad won't let me have anything to do with them until I'm 18. Is there a gun that's easily handled by a teen for protection (I'd probably be supervised by my mom if there was a home intrusion)... Any suggestions?

  • @YolkyNOBAMA There are many great handguns that I'm sure you could handle w/ the proper instruction and practise. Another thought might be a good 20ga shotgun.like a Mossberg 500 or Remington870. Another great choice would be a pistol caliber carbine like the Marlin lever action youth model in 357 mag. You and your Mother could could maybe learn to shoot that one together. The 38specials loads are very soft recoiling.

It's going to come down to a serious discussion w/ your parents. Good luck

  • @GunznGear Nice selection. I just purchase my first handgun (M&P 9 Full Size). I agree a shot gun might be better for home defense then a handgun for a number of reasons. Easier to defend against a intruder in a high stress moment compared to handguns (esp. if you do not practice regularly). Thanks for the great video and input.

  • @2high2aim I really like the M&P's! Thanks

  • @YolkyNOBAMA heritage rough rider, and phoenix makes a cheap semi auto .22.

both small and light weight. and cheap ammo. but id go with the rough rider since its single action, so it makes a good first.

  • plz stop saying kay all the time

  • glock 17 with hollow point rounds so it pancakes inside whoever, that way you can use the 9mm with more of an effect on the... bad guy

  • @ihatemeandallofyou The G17 is a great handgun. Thanks

  • @GunznGear x) mhmm, its a great jack of all trades gun, good for home security,it can be a good starter gun, good for learning to handle and for maintinance, and its a good gun for customization, plus i like the general desighn much more than other glocks, very comfortable...

  • I would put the Taurus Judge as #1 for home, car defense. 410 shot shell; low penetration; high probability of hitting the target. Nasty kick but you're not out target shooting.

Check out the Taurus web site for the video.

For concealed carry I would choose one of the many fine .357 mag available. I'm looking for reliability in both cases so I'd leave the semi-autos for the range.

  • @opadennis A lot of folks really like the Taurus Judge.

It's hard to beat a good 357 mag!

  • @opadennis How hard is it to hold on to the recoil of a .410 shot shell with a tiny handle. I'm thinking much worse than desert eagle 50

  • @opadennis Nasty kick? for a .410? .410's are easy to shoot I'm 12 and .410 is a nice gun

  • @pagelock5 He's refering to the Taurus Judge, it's a handgun chambered for .410 bore, and espiecially with the 3 inch loads, I'd put the recoil up there with a .454 Casull though not as sharp.

  • @pagelock5 I'm talking about the .410 round used in the Taurus revolver. I'm a 230 lb guy with large hands who shoots a .45 pistol at the range with no complaints and I'm willing to admit that I wouldn't want to shoot that Taurus Judge all day. It does have a kick. BUT the Judge is not intended to be a range gun; it's build for self defense and I'm sold on its ability to defend. It's my first choice as a car or house gun. (In my state the .410 round is not legal for concealed carry!)

  • @opadennis Well nvm if it's a pistol

  • wats da name of da small gun

  • @miklo813 North American Arms

  • the glock 19 is amazing. I used it on a military trip in israel, and it was the best gun i used during the whole trip. Not the coolest gun we got to use, but definitely the best. we used some really cool guns, like the tavor, that was awesome. the company was called lionops if anybody is interested

  • i would use the beretta px4

  • hey man, i got my cowboy action gun and i can do some pretty amazing things with it.

  • fuck Glocks its either and S&W XM500 or DEagle or a 1911

  • @THEGRAYFOXX00 Why the hate for glocks? Preparing to purchase my first pistol and have been looking at the glocks as a good first handgun.

  • @Proverbs1533 A Glock 19 was my first handgun. I'd highly recommend. Get a 3rd Gen if you can find one. Next, you'll want a .22LR handgun so you can get lots of practice at a very affordable cost. The Ruger 22/45 Target is nice, as is the Walther P22.

  • @fry11guy Thanks for the advice. The glock 19 was what i had my eye on.

  • @THEGRAYFOXX00 I own a .50AE Desert Eagle and would never consider it for home defense. It's kick is far too powerful for practical use. My chosen handgun is a Glock 17 and till i can get myself a 1911.

  • great vidya !

  • Handguns are not appropriate for home defense. Handguns are not powerful; they're portable. Rifles and shotguns are far more powerful and easier to hit with than a handgun. The only advantage of a handgun is that the size is appropriate for carry. If a person only owned one gun, then as you say, it can be pressed into a home defense role. Good points on pros and cons of each handgun but I wouldn't recommend a handgun for HD to begin with.

  • @chopinbloc Yeah, I've read the same quotes as you used. This was not a video concerning Home Defense, but rather a vid concerning handguns for HD. I believe the shotguns rule for HD. I have several vids on the subject of home defense. I will say the quote you used "Hanguns are not appropriate for home defense" is inaccurate imo. The handgun may not be the best, but with in the limited role of defense inside the home, I believe the handgun can serve as a formidable weapon.

  • @GunznGear It beats the crap out of a pointy stick, that's for sure. I agree that handguns CAN be used effectively and I presumed that is what you were getting at but I would have liked to see a disclaimer at the beginning of the video stating that a rifle or shotgun is far better suited for defense, including HD, than a handgun. As I mentioned, if a person only has one gun, a handgun allows them to protect themselves in and out of the home.

  • @GunznGear Shotguns are perfectly capable weapons, but like anything else, they have distinct advantages and disadvantages. In many ways a carbine chambered in an intermediate cartridge is superior to a shotgun for home defense. As always, software > hardware.

  • @chopinbloc Nothing wrong w/ carbines, but some of the folks whose quotes you used prefer shotguns, such as Col Cooper and Clint Smith. " Nothing beats a shotgun for repelling borders" Col. Jeff Cooper

Check out my vid "What's By My Bedside For Home Defense"

I think pistol caliber carbines are excellent choices for HD, especially if you cannot control a shotgun well enough. The stopping power of a shotgun w/in the home has no equal.

  • @GunznGear In re: shotgun quotes, I'm fond of the one by Clint Smith about 12 ga buckshot removing tissue and bone.

I'd put a PCC as better than a pistol but substantially inferior to a shotgun in most applications. I was referring to intermediate cartridge carbines, such as an AR. They have their own limitations but their list of pros is much longer in relation to a 12 ga pump.

  • @chopinbloc I was going to include that quote also, but I ran out of characters. LOL

I agree that a rifle is the best firearm to have in times danger. It's capable of defeating many barriers, and has superior lethality at longer ranges, but I consider those things as "cons" in a home defense scenerio. In my typical working class neighborhood the homes are only 50' - 75' apart, so I do not consider rifles for HD. The nice thing about our discussion btwn rifles and shotguns is they're both great

  • @GunznGear Most 5.56mm loads are actually less dangerous than 00 buck after passing through obstacles such as drywall and stucco. If your concern is an errant shot harming a family member or neighbor, you might actually be better off with an AR than a 12 ga pump. Again, there are other factors and the most important one is which weapon system YOU are best with.

  • @chopinbloc Clint Smith told me,at one of his classes, that he thinks the main reason we see many shooting schools adding carbine/rifle courses is b/c they are very popular. "Rifles are excellent weapons, and in rural areas, they are very capable, but not so much in the burbs. If you ask me what gun I would pick up first to use for HD, it's my shotgun." Clint Smith

I believe you have to consider collateral damage/injury w/ all guns used for HD, but I believe that rifles pose a greater risk.

  • @GunznGear I might agree if we were only talking about, say, 7.62 NATO and ball ammo. In comparing 12 ga 00 buck (typical HD load) to 5.56 TAP (another typical HD load), the buckshot penetrates more hard obstacles and with more wounding potential left over than the 5.56. To compound the problem, the buckshot involves multiple projectiles, each with their own potential for a miss or over penetration of the intended target.

  • @chopinbloc Since you feel a need to continue, then that's fine w/ me. What happens if it only contacts your glass window?? What if the window is open, and the screen is the only obsticle? How far can it travel and still be lethal? I would suspect that distance is greater than defensive buck shot loads. Hornady TAP also come in 00buck, and it's a reduced power load, specifically designed for HD, so then their over penetration issues are reduced.

  • @GunznGear It's your channel and I don't want to be rude but I like talking guns so as long as you're willing to indulge me...

Any cartridge capable of penetrating a bad guy deeply enough to reliably incapacitate will also penetrate through other obstacles and continue to pose a danger to bystanders. I don't know of any data to answer your question but I suspect you are correct. Unless your house is very atypical, though, you probably have a lot more wall area than window area.

  • @chopinbloc I love talking about guns! rifles-vs-shotguns for HD is a very popular discussion. I happen to think both firearms have strengths and weaknesses in the confines of HD. I'm not an expert, but I am a dedicated student, and have learned much from the courses I've taken over 28yrs. Many experts are ingaged in this same discussion, and both sides have valid points. At this time, I'm siding w/ Jeff Cooper and Clint Smith and the shotgun instructor from Blackwater whose name I can't recall.

  • @GunznGear Couldn't have said it better myself... except that whole last part where you're wrong. ;^)

I'm kidding, of course. For the record, I have a lot more trigger time on the AR system and am thus better with that weapon than I am with my shotgun. I use the suppressed SBR that you see in one of my videos for my primary HD gun. My nightstand gun is my main CCW piece, a G23.

  • @chopinbloc LOL you type faster than me, and that's not fair!! If you ever care to look through my vids, you'll notic
