I was at this public rehearsal when I was living in A'dam, all is true! It is not a fake! In fact it's her agent who did a mistake in her concert schedule. She really expected another concerto to perform. Anyway, the result was AMAZING!!!

What happened hear.How is it there is an audience.Didnt they have rehearsals.Were there 2 concerti sh she had to play and they played one first.I dont get itand she had to remem the 2 cadenzas.She has played these works for 20 years & she is unique.It could be a Chopin concerto and she would rem everything .Amazing that she doubted herself.HOW DID THIS SITUATION COME ABOUT? Very strange.She is an honest pianist so this is all very hollywood shocking to me!

Note the energetic manners with which the conductor helps the pianist over her paralysis of anxiety. It is a great example of leadership and how a manager, doctor, fire fighter should behave when confronted with a person that is paralysed by panick and needs reassuring: "Inject energy immediately".

@flandrensis Of course the conductor is a leader, but you make it sound so simple.... the conductor or anyone CAN NOT make a musician play something which is not prepared just by saying a few words. The whole thing was planned and Maria Joao Pires is someone who can play things at very short notice, I know this. If you are saying that the conductor is the one who makes it happen then you are living in a daydream.

@cfcup2004 What do you mean by "the whole thing was planned"? I always wondered about it. Do you mean they put on the wrong concerto by purpose to get her lovely helpless reaction? (Of course just by accident there is a filming team present?) How can it be anyway that the first rehearsal with the soloist is already public? This is not normal in my experience, only maybe if she couldn't come earlier, what I doubt here.

Simply incredible ! To be put in this awful situation and figure out how to solve it... Great reactions from the pianist and the conductor !
