  • Fantastic. Such drama and stage presence.

Would have loved to see Ancient Greek costumes here though...

  • It doesn't get better than this! Brava Ms Behrens!

  • When I sing this aria, and let me tell you, it's so much fun to sing, I always think of this performance. The best part is the very last line- the emphasis she puts on that... Such beautifully powerful music, what intense orchestration, shakes you to your core...

  • Brava! Thanks for postings

  • must be hard to fall over in a corset like that

  • It's funny, I have heard people put this performance down, but I find it riveting. Her voice is strong, bright, and angular...and there is a long tradition of casting Electra with a Wagnerian singer. She gets tried towards the end, and what soprano doesn't?

  • The combination Behrens/Ponnelle/Levine...could it be done better?

  • she's really good...I do like her voice

  • R.I.P. We love you & miss you.

  • Sutherland like diction, extremely usual interpretation, yet very impressive and memorable.

  • Nothing short of amazing. She even keeps her arms and fingers stiff in "rigormortis" as her body is carried off. The woman thought of EVERY aspect of her characters in a way very few ever have.

  • WOW

how come i've never heard this song before? it's amazing!!!

  • Incredible !!!!! Mozart goes Dramatic and this needs a Wagnerian Brunhild like Behrens. Greatful !!!!!

  • aparte de la voz, que gran actuación, si en todas las óperas todos/as actuaran así, sería más sublime aún este género

  • Just the best.

  • That is just genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The ending! I cannot stop watching it!!!! I´m speechless...

  • adios diva...

  • First time I heard her was at Tosca with Domingo. A great Brünhilde. Will miss her a lot. Thank you for all that art.

  • Adios a otra Grande de la ESCENA LIRICA

  • She looks and sounds great here! I was so sad to hear of her death, she was always a favorite singer of mine.

  • The most impressive Elettra on stage I have seen (on video, of course, because I couldn't - unfortunately - have heard her live). Behrens was certainly one of the great legends of the Post War period, though she wasn't as reknown as she deserved with that amazing voice (though not the most powerful), animal stage presence and a powerful sense of femininity and sensitivity even in the most dramatic and tragic roles. She'll be remembered as a great diva in a very broad range of repertoires.

  • Read the article of jurgen Kesting in the Frankfurter Allgmeine Zeitung.

  • yo la konoci por su grabacion de salome con karajan y me encanto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    lastima ke se murio :(

  • BRAAAVAAA!!!! Requiescat in Pacem! Never to be forgotten!!!!

  • RIP Hildegard Behrens

  • Posted in memory of this wonderfully exciting diva..ch

  • Yes, apparently she has died of an aneurism at 72. I did not know her work, but since Paul Potts, I have been trying to familiarize myself with more opera. I regret not having known about this lady until reports of her death. What an amazing voice to be lost!

  • There are reports of her death coming from Japan. RIP.

  • I have become a huge Hildegard Behrens

fan in the past year. She is so good.

She is vary good in Tosca also.

  • Gorgeous interpretation. One of the most gracious sopranos I have ever had the pleasure to meet! What a delightful video! Thank you so much for posting :)

  • she´s perfect!!! Bravamuy her high notes are perfection, and is such a risker singer, she made herself famous with Salome.

  • I love this. She is grate.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Can you post more of this Opera?

  • straordinaria interprete grande attrice anke se un po negata nelle agilita ke la vocalita di elettra rikiede cmq straordinaria lo stesso

  • You can love or hate her singing here, but she NAILS the acting like no other! I have always liked this aria for its rage and dramatics. I can certainly forgive the minor vocal flaws in favor of her acting. Brava!

  • I absolutely love this woman!

  • Surprising performance. I like very much

  • Awesome, what a great singer and great opera actor!

  • More than her face - her singing and acting is all about her entire body.

  • I love her face. It is as expressive as her singing, resp. shouting/moaning.

  • Behrens's performance here is indescribably more sophisticated than I ever imagined it would be. Perhaps one of the only Italian roles that suited her unique talent; I was really impressed!!

  • She commited some flaws on the singing, but she more than makes up on the actingi!

    Bravo!

  • It was a great operatic MOMENT -- as someone once said of Obrastsova's Amneris, "It was like being in a taxi crash with Jackie O - tremendously exciting, and you wanted to tell everyone all about it, but not exactly pleasant." Behrens voice and the Italian language never belonged on the same stage together.

  • This was perhaps the most amazing performance I ever witnessed at the Met in my 35 years or so of attending.

  • It was mine too, until the Strauss Elektra in 1994, the greatest ovation in the history of the Met. WHat a night that was. Why is that sensational performance not out on DVD yet?????

  • She's an amazing actress, SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Incredible!
