You are right. Dervashes in Maulana Roomi's Khanqah whirl in commemoration of Maulana's whirling that Maulana once did impulsively while he was drenched in true love of Allah (Ishq e Haqiqi). In fact now these dances have become symbolic and cultural rather than religious, you can see some foreigners visiting the khanqah also performing this activity.

Every worship that is commanded in Islaam like salaah, zakaah, sawm, THIKR, JIHAAD is outlined STEP BY STEP as to how to carry it out. why on earth do sufis think that it is different with thikr? THIKR has a strict methodology to apply it like every other worship. CAN YOU MAKE UP YOUR OWN SALAAH or ZAKAAH? so how can you make up your own thikr like these sufis do? this is pure dalaalah and every dalalah is in hellfire.
