Just a great song. I like but don't love the Cramps but man they got it perfect for the 3:41 here. Plus I think Poison Ivy gave me my first woodie in this video
My band played at some punk venue and there was all these twats with mohawks and studded leathers. I yelled into the mike "YOU AIN'T NO PUNKS YOU PUNKS!" we then proceded to play a ten minute version of bird is the word heavily influenced by The Cramps. Yeah they really loved that. 30 plus angry skin/punks is a scary sight hahaha
R.I.P. lux interior and poison ivy, you are a fucking awesome guitarist! the cramps were so underrated it pisses me off! great band! best female guitarist in the history of music! great sound! great lyrics! keep it evil!
yeah it's just what you need when you're down in the dumps. one half hillbilly and one half punk. big long legs and one big mouth. the hottest thing from the north to come out of the south. do you understand?
i can't lose with the stuff i use, and you don't choose no substitutes. so stick out your can 'cause i'm your garbageman.
A long time ago (when the cramps were getting started) the term punk encompassed a lot more than it does now.....What we know as goth, psycho billy, death rock, hardcore, and even some psychedelic was once known as punk. Labels don't matter to anyone but corporations so they can sell you an image of that label. "If you're punk you'll love these guys with mohawks" is the mentality. Punk is what you want it to be.....what YOU think it is.
I listened to this song on acid years ago, and i swear it was the most amazing song i have ever heard!! Dose, and listen to the cramps!! You will enjoy!!!!
I want to know who are the 14 idiots that just had to be jerks and not like this video? I hope you get ran over by a Garage truck and thrown into a dump.
Each of The Cramps two shows I attended are in my top 5 best shows attended! Poison Ivy Rorschach and Lux Interior are light years beyond cool! RIP Lux!
Where I come from woman wear nothing but leather and spiked heel boots, Chargers with the engine popping out the hood like a good pair of fake breasts race down the street, motorcycle gangs fight over turf rights with good old chains and louieville sluggers, people say 'tough' to describe shit they think is just.just fucking great, bon fire keggers are the norm, aliens run amuck anally probing squares, and the great late Lux is the king of the stage with Poison Ivy his queen ICLWTSIU. No I cant
@McDanger007 where did you see them? I first saw them at Glasgow Barrowlands '86, "Date With Elvis" tour. They were too good to describe!!!!! I hope you had the same experience!!!! "life is short..........."
from back when this came out to the day I die, I will always think this stuff is way beyond cool. One of my lifes regrets is never gonig to see them live...
Now that's a performer..First heard this when I was 15 in New Zealand in 1985, and good god it still kicks ass. Still listen to this all the time. Part of what made the Cramps so cool is that were never mainstream, not even 'alternative'; they were like a secret that got passed around and only the very cool or very bad got to know about. Fucin' loved them then, and fuckin' love them now. RIP LUX, and if I believed in god I'd get him to bless you too Ivy, if you ever read this. You both rock.
So there I was happily into Throbbing Gristle, M, The Flying Lizards, PiL thinking it couldn't get more weird and wonderful than that. Then this video came on The New Music, and I went 'oh shit...' I think this song hit in '79 - vamping music some 25 years prior. Over 30 years later, it STILL kicks ass! There will never be another Lux, ever!
@TheShaman74 yeah they totally took it from an old song, I forget the title but it's definitely lifted. It is featured somewhere on songs the cramps taught us.
@TheStrainers Yeah, Songs The Lord Taught Us! It was also a true vanguard or watershed album which inspired a whole musical subgenre, yet never has recieved it's proper due from moron critics and historians.
@Skulldini this was the first of first! nothing compares before or after. This started so much. I reflect on it still all these years later and is one of my biggest influences period do dot man.
If you like punk music then you should post your best or favorite punk video about what is punk, cause I don't know. But Lux will tell ya and teach you how to be cool in one easy lesson. 'A'
@StickyVinny It was a Lewis guitar, made by a Canadian luthier. I don't think there are many around because I think the guy made them all by hand. In other words, I don't think they were mass produced. And the guy died, so that's another reason why there aren't many of them around. David Gilmour has one. I read that it was used to hit those high notes on "Money", because it's got 24 frets. There's more information out there on the 'net, should you want to look into it.
@StickyVinny Vinny, by way of p.s.: I forgot to mention that in the EARLIEST days of the Cramps Ivy used one of those plexiglass Ampeg/Dan Armstrong guitars--the ones that had a removable pickup, as used by Keith Richards circa 1969 or 1970. There's a clip of Keith Richards showing it to Hendrix backstage before the Stones played a gig. Anyway, that's the kind of guitar Ivy used before she got the Lewis guitar, which I mentioned in my previous reply to your question here.
I saw this on late night tv on a show called Video Concert Hall in 1980. I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. Of course I was 14 then, but it is still cool today.
@NewWaver80014 Gregory sadly got into junk )in real life) did a runner with the takings one night. Which possibly led to him being ousted and he go back to the unknown. The same shit killed him ultimately. But I must admit he looked good...
@PoireauMan68 Actually, Bryan was also in a couple groups in the late 80s/early 90s, including Beast and Veil. As you probably are aware, his younger sister was The Cramps' original drummer!
The Cramps are my all-time favorite rock ' n roll group. They had everything that I value and admire in a rock ' n roll groupe,.. a really cool and distinctive musical sound, weird image sense, demented humor, and an affinity for the fantastic and macabre. And, I dare say, no group has ever sported a finer frontman than Mister Lux Interior !
@Skulldini I sure wish guys like Lux were immortal so they could go on making cool music and giving amazing performances into infinity,.. cause guys like him are all-to rare in this bland dreary world, let me tell ya so !
R.I.P. Lux Interior,.. and while all the dolts and lunkheads are boo hoo hoo-ing the demise of Micheal "King of Pop" Jackson, I shall be wearing MY vail for none but the great mad daddy of the rock 'n roll netherrealm !
