  • I love to eat a lot but recently I have started to eat smart. I wanted do know which vegetable is the best for cleaning out my stomach. I hear Spinach is effective but are Collard Greens or Broccoli any better or the same?

  • As a Registered Dietitian, there is no such thing as "cleaning" out your stomach. Throughout the day the stomach dumps partially digested foods into your small intestines.

  • derka derka

  • Thankyou Sanjay for all your terrific recipes...they are soooo delicious !!!

  • LOoks Great!

  • toor dal.

  • Tomato and Spinach together make kideny stones. However, I make tomato dal separately and Spinach Dal separately. I pressure cook Spinach with Dal, and just do seasoning like you started and mix the dal into it. It is even simpler that what you showed. But I feel like watching your videos, even though I know cooking, so others may benefit like how you say it every time you demostrate a recipe

  • That is the popular belief in India, that palak and tomato should not be eaten if diagnosed with kidney stones. Scientifically it has not been proven that it will cause stone formation. The controversy is because of the oxalic acid content. But then some other vegetables have more oxalic acid content than tomato and spinach. Just don't eat anything in excess, drink lots of water, and you don't have to worry about getting kidney stones from this:)

  • It is actually suggested by both doctors and nutritionists. Not only Spinach, any leafy form like Cilantra, cabbage, mint, basil, are not recommended to cook with Tomatoes, because the seeds in tomatoes tend to form stones when they are mixed with leafy vegetables like Spinach. It is recommended to cook tomatoes without seeds. Yes, it is scientifically proven.

  • well i have heard some stupid things in my time but this takes the cake. the relation between spinach and tomato to create kidney stones is as foolish as the idea that the earth is flat. come on read a book or two

  • Yeah, things look stupid until actually you face it. Talk to Tom Friedman regarding if earth is flat not.

  • i guess working in the national health service here in engl;and puts me at a significant disadvantage from your academic reply. many good and healthy wishes to you and may you be always free of kidney stones. bless in hoc signo vinces t

  • this is very tasty!

  • great recipe

  • I dont think that comabination of Spinach and Tomato is not goof for health. I know many dishes in which we use bothe together like Alook Palak, Tomato Spinach soup etc...

  • I heard that spinach should not be eaten with tomato. Is there any scientific basis?

  • Yes. It si not good for kidneys. Spinach and tomatoes both form stones in kidneys.

  • Why?

  • i put a little tamarind pulp too in my spinach dal. it tastes awesome that way

  • I am purchasing a new set of pots and pans soon. The coating on my non-stick pan has peeled away. I think the cookware you use is another important aspect to the outcome of your dishes. I have noticed that most of your pots/pans are just stainless steel, not non-stick. Please suggest the brand and types that you have had success with. I would really appreciate it!!!

  • i mostly use nonstick pans ,they are coated silver in color , just good for video

  • Thanks for the quick reply. Still I am curious which brand you use. Your answer will be really helpful.

  • Thanks Sanjay!!!

Thanks for sharing this recipe... I have followed many of your vegetarian recipes (since I am vegetarian) and my success ration is 100%... :)

I am eager to watch the Bhaji Pau recipe from you....hope you can cover this recipe in one of your coming episodes.

    Thanks a ton again!!!
