youtube takes at least 2 days to approve my videos for revenue share. This use to be instant for me. I'm commenting on your video from another channel I started thats not partnered. Great video!!

Youtube needs to introduce a program where they pick channels that have from 100 subs to even 1000. And feature them, I find alot of people like myself are struggling for views and subscriptions. All of us work SO hard on our video and the views and subs aren't making up for it. Its very frustrating!
Did you know that MrChiCity was taking the suggestions from the minutes of the Google quarterly share holders meeting a year ago? You don't have to own stock to listen to or access a quarterly shareholder meeting. I have been a partner for two years and YouTube has never suggested that I get rid of videos below a certain number of views. In fact, I have never gotten suggestions from YouTube. His video was loaded with misguided information and a lot of hot air.
One more thing I thought about after I wrote this is that even partners had a 10 minute time limit up until about 1-1/2 years ago. A lot of the help information has not been updated to fit the evolution of change on YouTube.

I've learned to play the Uke, learned allot on YouTube but the advertising is totally ruining it, I understand that's were monies come from but why is TV here?
I had playlists on my former accounts and while those accounts have either been suspended or closed, I can still access those old playlists by typing my former account name in the search box. Removing ALL former closed or suspended accounts completely (a LOT of accounts have been suspended over the 4 years I have been here). I myself have had 13 accounts. So, clean out all of the old accounts and accounts not used for 6 months or more and YT would gain a TON of server space.
Monetization is really weird for me now. Sometimes it is IMMEDIATELY. Last week it took 1 day for one of my vids. Very erratic. YT has told me they are trying to make monetization time shorter and more consistent.
Youtube is going down the tubes, (Pun intented) The sharinng out with only 25 folks at a time is a problem, I know the reason but think they should bring back share with all your contacts also bullitens was a great feature that went by the wayside! Also video view counts seem to be glitching at about 300 and when they come back on somehow it seems to be less than it should! These are a few majot peevs! Anyhoot, what can we really do about it? I loved bulletins. It always helped with views. I do agree that when the view count gets back rolling it doesn't seem like its where it normally would have been had it not frozen.
As it is users and viewers alike are being swamped with stuff which for the most part they will not be interested in. An easy way to solve lots of problems imho would be to divide the whole thing up in sections, like newspapers used to do, so you'd have a Youtube Music, a Youtube Home Video, a Youtube Commercial Stuff, etc. Maybe even try and make some regional divisions.
Well, they wouldn't have to actually name it 'commercial', of course. The main idea was to divide the site into different sections for different interests.
YouTube isn't what it was 3 years ago, and overall, much of it is for the worse. The "You" is fading badly under the heavy hand of Google.
Have you noticed that the Community tab no longer appears on the front page? That Groups have been swept under the carpet? I do remember when real Tubers and REAL videos were featured. Not anymore. It's all about money...
And I totally despise the ugly, sluggish, bug laden channel design. My comment to Brian Glick on my channel page expresses it all.
YouTube does not want people with opinion and do not want to promote education. They are more interested in Make Up and people that only talk sh**. I have some ideas why is that.

@CommentorX - If you had looked closer, you would have seen that the 'view all comments' page is now linked in that video's description box. If you had seen that AND clicked on it, you would have then seen over 400 comments - AND my replies.

I wonder if the lag on monetization is YT's way of saving on payouts or paying out on videos that give a better return on the storage space (since the same chunk of HDD space generates more income longer until the popularity subsides and the video becomes dead storage). HD videos require more resources so they might lag longer to recoup costs? I don't know, I'm just guessing. And I gotta say, you have really pretty eyes. I'm not a fan of the new channel layout, but ThOverdrive's got a point.
Oh, I think I missed something there...I took for granted that ads were visible whether a video was monetized or not. And my interpretation of revenue sharing was just that they'd pay you something, not that they'd pay you a specific cut off everything they made from the ad.

It is clearly an imperfect system. The saddest part is that it is costing Youtube a lot of their revenue, I would imagine they only give a small portion of the ad revenue onto the content creators.
I can't remember the link, but that's the program that many partners have where they can start a new channel at any time and have it partnered and link it to a main account. It also allows them to have a video pulled for copyright infringement faster than the normal flagging would do. Wish I knew more, but again, I've been denied! Honestly Terry, you're probably already a part of the program? Do you have more than one channel?
As for charities keeping the money, of course they do. It's called overhead. You don't think the Water Project gets their office in Lower Manhattan for free, do you? They can have an office anywhere, but they chose the financial district of NYC. That should make you go Hmmmmmm.

I'm probably gonna just stop making videos because as an AMV maker it's virtually impossible to upload videos when they get deleted for having certain songs in them. And I work really hard on those videos, and it's promoting the musician to get their music out there! Most actual musicians (not their record labels) would love their songs to be used in videos (at least the ones I've heard talk about it). And now I can't even use my old email anymore. I have to use my google one. Wtf YT?
I kind of feel offended by that, as a wrestler, but, I can agree, because of all the WWE videos. But, if you're an indy wrestler like me, you could benefit from youtube, as it is easier to get your matches to bookers.
Will these low count videos being removed, be the very same ones that they "Freeze" the viewcounts on, or adjust to make the counts show "Community Interest"??!. Not sure about you, but they are always "Freezing" my viewcounts, and still pointing me to the blog section where they say they will control the view counts, or make them based on "Community Interest" when I question them.. Yucky!
great video and I totally love your logo... but I said that before. We can't change what youtube is doing or not doing. Youtube has a lot of Usability issues and the new layout isn't helping. But the human being gets used to it... so we have to arrange or stay away ;)

The main complaint that I have with the new layout is that it is incomparable with mobile devices. You would expect the opposite from a company like YouTube. As far as server space, we know from the lawsuit against YouTube that they store deleted videos. I doubt there are any issues with storage space. Any decision to delete videos over 2 years would not go over well, bad idea.
my prob is, is if they have eye catching add, then why must you reboot the vid you want to see so much when the same add is at the beginning of the vid
My style of video response is able to be removed after 2 years or so,so I feel no problem with that. I woud be concerned to lose non response videos I have made,without some advance warning as
I have two partner channels. This one has no real problems with the ads showing up. My ItalianLessons101 channel takes days before the ads show up. Funny thing is that the views on that channel accumulate over the year so it doesn't really matter.

I also agree that the new channel format makes it difficult to access videos. I want a featured video at the top followed by a grid view of 9 videos just like the old channels.

Going through the comments, I'm amazed at how many people have ads show up immediately and many take days. It seems almost dead even. Wonder why the split?
I tried to upload a new video 3 times last night. It is HD and every time YT sends back a message saying it is wrong format. It is 1080p and a .mov file. This is really pissing me off.
As far as the Videos themselves go, Youtube has got to do something. They get an insane amount of videos uploaded every day, lots of it is useless anyways, so to delete old videos that have a small number of views could take out some gold, but I am sure that they will set the parameters high enough so this wont happen.
They can't pick and choose what videos stay and go when this happens, they will set up a program to delete a set form of parameters. It would take too much to go through 1 by 1
I agree they have to do something. People don't realize what its costing youtube to keep those videos around and they would have to come up with some sort of formula. Another comment was made, how about deleting account that haven't logged in in a year? I think its a great idea.
The new layout is far easier to navigate than the old one. There were some significant glitches when it first came out, but the betatesting that was done really help things progress.
I don't like the new uploader, since it appears to slow down the process. I'm intrigued to see what the new 1080p player will look like, but considering that the 720p player still is a bit dodgy, I'm not holding my breath.
regarding the revenue sharing problem, I'm a partner but the videos that I had up before I became a partner don't have the apply for revenue sharing button, even though they follow all of the revenue sharing rules. only one of my older videos automatically has ads up.
There are advantages to both ways, the newer layout still looks old fashioned to me, but it is way easier to keep track of the newest content by your fav subscriptons.
As far as the channel changes, it took some getting used to, but I like it fine now.
The featured videos did mean something a long time ago but not nowadays.
I kinda like the new layout of the channel page.

I get the adverts on my videos straight away and I find it odd that it takes days for you to get the ads Carrie. It should be equal for everyone on the adverts.
I was having trouble getting my videos monetized in a timely fashion, but it has gotten way, way better this past week. One thing which might help speed the monitization process up is to be very, very detailed in your answers to the monitization questionnaire.

I have been on YT since November 11th, 2005. I have seen so many changes since I came on here.
I have no problems with the new layout and I think overall YT is doing what they can to make it better.
What I do NOT agree with is removing anyone's videos regardless of how old they are and the view count.

Hmm I guess all older videos will be deleted. Well I guess I'll get over it. Maybe I should just go back to my older hobby of being a writer. At least when I write on paper I don't get suspended for copyright :) If all this comes true I'll probably just give up on youtube :)

@CommentorX - If you had looked closer, you would have seen that the 'view all comments' page is now linked in that video's description box. If you had seen that AND clicked on it, you would have then seen over 400 comments - AND my replies.
That discussion moved to a follow up video - yet another thing you would have known had you looked deeper.

I wonder if the lag on monetization is YT's way of saving on payouts or paying out on videos that give a better return on the storage space (since the same chunk of HDD space generates more income longer until the popularity subsides and the video becomes dead storage). HD videos require more resources so they might lag longer to recoup costs? I don't know, I'm just guessing. And I gotta say, you have really pretty eyes. I'm not a fan of the new channel layout, but ThOverdrive's got a point.

Um it is revenue sharing. Youtube isn't paying us. So that are only losing money by the delay in monetizing.
And Yes Carrie Lee I'm having to wait for my latest video to get monetized. In a way I am glad to know it's not just me. Sucks just the same though.

Oh, I think I missed something there...I took for granted that ads were visible whether a video was monetized or not. And my interpretation of revenue sharing was just that they'd pay you something, not that they'd pay you a specific cut off everything they made from the ad.

It is clearly an imperfect system. The saddest part is that it is costing Youtube a lot of their revenue, I would imagine they only give a small portion of the ad revenue onto the content creators.

I can't remember the link, but that's the program that many partners have where they can start a new channel at any time and have it partnered and link it to a main account. It also allows them to have a video pulled for copyright infringement faster than the normal flagging would do. Wish I knew more, but again, I've been denied! Honestly Terry, you're probably already a part of the program? Do you have more than one channel?

I'm probably gonna just stop making videos because as an AMV maker it's virtually impossible to upload videos when they get deleted for having certain songs in them. And I work really hard on those videos, and it's promoting the musician to get their music out there! Most actual musicians (not their record labels) would love their songs to be used in videos (at least the ones I've heard talk about it). And now I can't even use my old email anymore. I have to use my google one. Wtf YT?

Will these low count videos being removed, be the very same ones that they "Freeze" the viewcounts on, or adjust to make the counts show "Community Interest"??!. Not sure about you, but they are always "Freezing" my viewcounts, and still pointing me to the blog section where they say they will control the view counts, or make them based on "Community Interest" when I question them.. Yucky!

great video and I totally love your logo... but I said that before. We can't change what youtube is doing or not doing. Youtube has a lot of Usability issues and the new layout isn't helping. But the human being gets used to it... so we have to arrange or stay away ;)

The main complaint that I have with the new layout is that it is incomparable with mobile devices. You would expect the opposite from a company like YouTube. As far as server space, we know from the lawsuit against YouTube that they store deleted videos. I doubt there are any issues with storage space. Any decision to delete videos over 2 years would not go over well, bad idea.

I have two partner channels. This one has no real problems with the ads showing up. My ItalianLessons101 channel takes days before the ads show up. Funny thing is that the views on that channel accumulate over the year so it doesn't really matter.

Carrie Lee, great info as usual and thanks for the update. I've noticed that it sometimes takes a few days to get my videos monetized now. It's a bit of a drag.
I also agree that the new channel format makes it difficult to access videos. I want a featured video at the top followed by a grid view of 9 videos just like the old channels.
Come on YT, give us back the option to display both!

I tried to upload a new video 3 times last night. It is HD and every time YT sends back a message saying it is wrong format. It is 1080p and a .mov file. This is really pissing me off.

As far as the Videos themselves go, Youtube has got to do something. They get an insane amount of videos uploaded every day, lots of it is useless anyways, so to delete old videos that have a small number of views could take out some gold, but I am sure that they will set the parameters high enough so this wont happen.
They can't pick and choose what videos stay and go when this happens, they will set up a program to delete a set form of parameters. It would take too much to go through 1 by 1

The new layout is far easier to navigate than the old one. There were some significant glitches when it first came out, but the betatesting that was done really help things progress.
I don't like the new uploader, since it appears to slow down the process. I'm intrigued to see what the new 1080p player will look like, but considering that the 720p player still is a bit dodgy, I'm not holding my breath.

regarding the revenue sharing problem, I'm a partner but the videos that I had up before I became a partner don't have the apply for revenue sharing button, even though they follow all of the revenue sharing rules. only one of my older videos automatically has ads up.

There are advantages to both ways, the newer layout still looks old fashioned to me, but it is way easier to keep track of the newest content by your fav subscriptons.
As far as the channel changes, it took some getting used to, but I like it fine now.

I get the adverts on my videos straight away and I find it odd that it takes days for you to get the ads Carrie. It should be equal for everyone on the adverts.

I was having trouble getting my videos monetized in a timely fashion, but it has gotten way, way better this past week. One thing which might help speed the monitization process up is to be very, very detailed in your answers to the monitization questionnaire.
