If it recovers after 2012 and the GOP is in office, it will be because of the stimulus. The bill was brought to the House Floor under a parliamentary procedure called suspension of the rules.Under this procedure the bill can only be debated for 40 minutes and no amendments can be offered. Republicans expressed concerns about the way the bill is to be funded. The bill is introduced as a mandatory spending bill and will run for 10 years. It would be exempt from annual Congressional reviews. In other words no accountability of funding or follow up from studies.
@quizerry The problem came when the Dems put the bill as a suspension of rules bill because they did not want the republican to add an amendments one would have been no health benefits to illegals. Because the Dems put the bill under suspension it needs 2/3 vote. They haven't got the votes and knew they might not have them it all seems like a total sham Weiner is just grand standing because he knew they didn't have the votes.
As much as this pains me to admit, you have to give the Republicans credit for doing one thing: they are masterful at stalling legislation and saying no to whatever they want so no Democratic bills are passed with mainly Democratic legislation in it. They are so insecure and so scared to let the Democrat succeed at ANYTHING. They will do EVERYTHING they can to make sure the Democrats and Obama fail, make them look bad and, essentially, filibustering legislation, then blaming it all on them.
I will always remember these brave tax paying americans running to help. I will always remember the lazy ass republicans running to their bunkers. I will always remember the republicans who voted for the 1st wall street bailout before Obama took office. I will remember their assistance to foreign companies and oil. I will remember in Nov. their refusal to help tax paying brave americans. Dems stand up for the taxpayers and repubs stand up for BP.

Anthony Weiner is amazing. To have a politician come out and speak from the heart, and speak truth to power. It was a shame that those on the right didn't vote for the bill to help the people who risked their lives on 9/11. It was a shame that they would rather vote no simply because they weren't allowed to add amendments to the bill that had nothing to do with helping those heroes.
Everything that Rep. Weiner said was 100% true, and he's a role model for me. Dems, take a lesson from him.

@Astrelweeks The Bush tax cuts didnt cost us any money , if you pay attention and read the facts then you would know that after the Bush tax cuts went into effect, income tax receipts grew by nearly 40% over the next 4 years. Two mindless wars? How was afghanistan mindless you fool, only an anti-american zealot would say such a thing esp. considering we just killed bin Laden. Iraq, sure it was probably a waste but its cost ($788 billion as of 2011) is less than 11% of all debt from 2003-2011.

We're in favor of COMPLETE FREE MARKETS. As for this particular bill, the FACT is that the bill has funding embedded in it for illegal aliens, and that the Dems required a vote which wouldn't have allowed Reps from amending the provisions that were NOT for 1st Responders.

Dems are going to let the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy expire because they created a 1 trillion dollar deficit, given that they cut their revenues and then increased spending by going to war in Iraq. And by the way, taxes today are mostly lower than they ever have been, check the facts and stop listening to nutjobs on the radio.

I hear ya. But fighting generalities with more generalities doesn't really prove any points. Your statement about "blue states subsidizing red states" is wildly off the mark. First off, California and New York (just to name a couple) are both in dire financial straits. Rural America or "red" states do contribute agriculturally, militarily (a LARGE majority of our soldiers come from middle America), steel mills, coal mines, (the list goes on). How can you not acknowledge that?

The evil rich you speak of are in fact job creators. All I remember about the horrific Carter Presidency was the worst recession since the great depression, when national unemployment was at 11.3%, in heavily manufacturing states unemployment was at 24.5% along with staggering inflation.

@dantheleo in 2012 it will be the Bush recession. In 2016 if the Dems happen to get reelected and the economy is still bad, it will STILL be the Bush recession. If it recovers after 2012 and the GOP is in office, it will be because of the stimulus. Also, if Obama loses, it will be because of racism, regardless of the fact that in 2008 the first black president was elected. Oh and Obama won the Iraq war, soon he will win Afghanistan with his strong will and support for both wars, post 2009.

The cover they use is that they could not offer amendments makes no sense to me because the bill its either good or bad.The fact that they killed it is just politics. The bill was brought to the House Floor under a parliamentary procedure called suspension of the rules.Under this procedure the bill can only be debated for 40 minutes and no amendments can be offered. Republicans expressed concerns about the way the bill is to be funded. The bill is introduced as a mandatory spending bill and will run for 10 years. It would be exempt from annual Congressional reviews. In other words no accountability of funding or follow up from studies.

@quizerry The problem came when the Dems put the bill as a suspension of rules bill because they did not want the republican to add an amendments one would have been no health benefits to illegals. Because the Dems put the bill under suspension it needs 2/3 vote. They haven't got the votes and knew they might not have them it all seems like a total sham Weiner is just grand standing because he knew they didn't have the votes.

As much as this pains me to admit, you have to give the Republicans credit for doing one thing: they are masterful at stalling legislation and saying no to whatever they want so no Democratic bills are passed with mainly Democratic legislation in it. They are so insecure and so scared to let the Democrat succeed at ANYTHING.
