with hockey being such a fast game i feel that u can't always rely on an umpire's eye to make a decision, i mean i have perfect vision but i still wouldn't be totally comfortable relying on it purely if i was umpiring a match.
i'm from the Netherlands the biggest hockey nation in the world and the dutch national hockey federation says that video ump has nothing to do with sport by human body, so umpires have to juge folds with theire eyes and not by video technology. and iff you use video you must pause the game and the time wich disturbs the gamespirrit!
Well, if we are going for technology, we might need the "nick"ometer that they use at cricket. Not sure how you ensure that the mike is always focussed on the ball, but the combination of microphone and picture might just show if there is a touch ..
It is ok saying that we should have video umps but there just is not the facilites in most of the clubs through out england and scotland, i play in the Scottish West Distric league. ( Would be good if the clubs had the money to do it )
I had a goal similar to this disaloud on saturday, because the umpire wasn't sure if i made contact with the ball or not... It was clearly a goal (all 22 men on the pitch knew so). But the umpire disaloud it, Introduce video umpiring to county hockey! lol x
Why not, if the technology today makes it possible. Hockey is the fastest field sport and umpires may blink or lets say err. How fair is it to the team suffering from a poor decision leading to match loss after all the preparation in a major tournament. Shavender's deflection is so difficult to make out unless seen again in slow motion.

yes tht is a fair point, although it does justify desicions and also could be the difference between the Cup and wooden spoon

if they have the ability to view the reply etc as they do in major tournaments then yes i think it is a good idea.
