I liked the palace and boss themes a lot. They had a darker tone to them. All around the music was great. I don't care if your wife has a degree in music, music comes from the soul, not a degree. I've heard plenty of people with music degrees write typical trendy trash.
Wow. I heard the song at the beginning and I was thinking that it was really good. And then you said that it was your wife singing? That's incredible. She's got talent.
Also, I have this game for my NES and although I absolutely love all of the other Zelda games, this one was just annoying to me. Sidescrolling just doesn't suit Link well.
You encoraged me to actually PLAY this game. But I can play it on my 3DS since I'm an ambassador. Anyway, I would've gave it a 3/10 considering what people say about it.
i bought this game for gba for 5 dollars at gamestop. Then i got caught up at the caves/castle leel (u know what im talking about, the hardest level in the game.) i sold it to dimple records (because gamestop stopped buying gba games ) and got $5. They're selling it for $15 now I WANT MY GAME BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!! >:(
i remember this being a rip off or being riped off by another game. i remember another game have like the same exact 2d sidescrolling gameplay as another game
About the story intro, every princess in Hyrule would then on be named Zelda? That must mean you're saving a different Zelda in every Zelda game. Also, if everyboy who saved Zelda was named Link, then in every game there must be a different Link saving a different Zelda so all the games have their own storylines! It's a split timeline, people! The Zelda Timeline is a split timeline! :D
I loved Zelda II's music. I found the SNES Zelda's music dull by comparison. Ocarina Of Time will always be my favourite though. I never made it past the dragon boss on Zelda II. My biggest problem with it was I thought the only way you could save your progress was if you died and the journey from where you start with Zelda sleeping to the dragon boss seemed a massive challenge in itself.
Whats the game at 00:57 called? I remember it scared the shit out of me when i was young would be nice to pick it up again or watch some movies regarding it. thanks for replys
I just found it extremely funny that at the beginning of the video is an advertisement and then you go and warn us against becoming YouTube partners. Sorry, K-Wing.
This back during the viacom wars on the internet, it was pretty messed up. In all I have about 20 reviews Viacom took down and when I made this I was pretty angry. Again this was so long ago.
wait you can choose which ability to level up? i pressed all the directions on the dpad and i can only pick the one it selects for me or nothing at all. do i need to press select or start or something?
kwing's comments on the music of Zelda II are among the most pretentious and stupid I've ever heard a musician utter. Arguing solely from appeal to authority, (oooh kWing has a music degree? big F'n deal), kwings claims the music is bad, when this is nothing more than a juvenile opinion.
@jezzej1979 Agreed, K-wing is being very biased and critical with the music. Bet if melee wasn't around, he might not like the dungeon theme. It doesn't ruin the game at all. It isn't too loud, nor to active.
here's a hard ass present day game. legend of zelda twilight princess. not really the game but that one part when you have to help the zora boy get through hyrule field...........
Arrgh. I fail so badly at this game- can't get past the 2nd dungeon. Even after your pep talk, I still can't bring myself to play it again. Oh well maybe some day
I agree with the sentiment of not giving up and that gaming was better in the 80s, but I never did beat this game as a child. And when I did finally beat it in college, I used a Game Genie.
My only gripe with the game is Link's sword length. It would have been more fun if it was longer. This is not to say the game is lacking it's a great entry in the zelda series but like all the games there's always room for improvement.
@ldlrdrllrr totally agree, it's so stupid that "you could torture someone with the Zelda 2 music" that's so not true. The overworld theme's more complex and it's a new twist, also you're not listening to it CONSTANTLY like in Zelda 1. And the boss music is intimidating, Zelda 1 DIDN'T have boss music. Also, there were only 3 different songs, 1 of which you only heard at the end. Zelda 2 has WAY more than that. To me, it's a better game overall, people are just jealous because they can't beat it.
@SouthNintendoPark its all matter of opinion. i personally thought the music was great for zelda II, but every song in zelda II doesnt match up to the overworld theme of legend of zelda. the overworld theme is the theme that brings gamers together (screwattack's words, i just agree with them), but thats my opinion
I was never a big fan of the game because of the random battles on the overworld. They used to get my blood boiling at times. But other than that the side scrolling parts were really good and I actually really liked the combat system as well. Perhaps I should just give the game another shot.
@el10presidential well yeah, i the manual but I was refearing to the first princess zelda who was put into a sleeping sleping spell hundrets of years before the first zeldas
I love this game :D although I actually found it really easy, unlike most people. Maybe it's because I always played this as a kid, not the first Zelda.
@TheTenjin666 im pretty sure he is listening to his heart. hes just saying that even someone who has a degree in music has the same opinion as he does.
I disagree with what you said about the music...the overworld music for this game does in fact suck, but the rest of it is pretty good and fits the game well. Then again, you also said the intro was "awesome" so I guess we have pretty varying tastes as far as music goes ;-)
Personally, I liked the music in Zelda 2 more then the first one. I'm sorry, but the music that you used for the boss to make your point, well, it's just way too repetitive and annoying. It sounds to much like a warning whether than a musical piece... There, I spent my two cents towards sharing my opinion.
I love the music in this game, although I get where you're coming from. It was simple stuff, and not the best, but I think it works. Especially the Great Palace theme.

lol, nowadays games are less buggy then they were back then, the problem with NES oldfags is the assumption that unfair challenges from games riddled with bugs and poor control makes for better gameplay, if the industry were to listen to you, we'd be back selling to an audience of 30 Million gamers instead of 150 Million Worldwide. Games like this are not "challenging" they're frustrating, and i can't imagine many people being happy about having to buy a new controller every week because of it
Some games have things called a PLOT, that's the reason you'd play RPG's.
Platformers like Sonic and Klonoa are just mindless fun with great soundtracks and can be replayed endlessly, a game does NOT need unfair challenges to be enjoyable, and i'm sorry i have to vent out my frustrations like this, but, i'm sick of listening to all these people saying "oh, Klonoa 2 is too easy. it sucks!" or "I think battletoads is better than Streets of Rage cause it's harder"
I have the gameboy advanced version of this game it's really hard! I can't beat the second palace but still this is an awesome game not as good as the original wich I also have for game boy.
Although many fans consider it the "black sheep" of the Zelda series, Zelda 2 is my personal favorite. The storyline was dark, the combat was intense, and the overworld map was HUGE.
This game showed no mercy and didn't cut the player ANY slack, and that's what I loved about it.
Personally, I thought the music was fantastic, but this was still a good review.
I give it 10/10, and rate it as not only my favorite Zelda game, but also my favorite video game of all time.

lol, nowadays games are less buggy then they were back then, the problem with NES oldfags is the assumption that unfair challenges from games riddled with bugs and poor control makes for better gameplay, if the industry were to listen to you, we'd be back selling to an audience of 30 Million gamers instead of 150 Million Worldwide.

The game's dificulty is insane.
And the story is a little simpler than ocarina of time.
