@wrenberney As for what I did when I started out.... I actually watched videos on youtube too! I learned the kana writing systems from youtube videos, and I think that is definitely the best place to start! If your goal is to speak Japanese, I would recommend listening to Japanese music, watching Japanese shows, and subscribing to some people that blog about Japanese! My personal favorites are Ciaela, koichiben, tofugu, and occasionally laoshu505000. Just try to soak up as much as possible!

dude i want more kanji lessons, i thought they were great.
but i do have a tip, try researching the stroke orders. teachers go nuts if you get the order wrong
