  • You sure that's a Redline? I didn't hear any supercharger. Even with the stock intake you can still hear it. Just to put it out there, Saturn did make a 2.4 version of the Ion which had the Redline body kit but wasn't supercharged. Could that be what this Ion was in the vid?

    Nice stang BTW... I am by no means a mustang fan, but 5.0 Mustangs are definitely a soft spot for me lol

  • LOL I have a '99 cobra(+basic mods exhaust, p/p intake, pulleys, 326 rwhp) and was VERY surprised by a some neon srt or something like it. I could hear his turbo blow-off. When the light turned green, I had him off the line but he stayed with me until the 2-3 shift. I started to pull away but not far or fast. If I had been stock he would have had me.

  • @AgentStyles 86-93 only had 220-225 hp stock. 240 would be closer to what it had at the crank. The 86 wasn't bad, just the heads were goofy. Bump the timing and remove the sway bar on a fully stock 86-93 and you saw high 13's with the horrible 2.73 gearing. Grind the "smog bump" from the exhaust ports and you saw an added 20-25hp. Add 3.73's, 5 speed, re-worked heads, frame ties, lower control arms, street cam + exhaust and air filter and you're in the high 12's lo 13's with little money spent.

  • The old Foxes were choked big time in the engine department. Ford could have gotten better fuel mileage and power had they used a better flowing H/C/I combo. My 2000 puts down 279hp/ 309 ft tq. and gets 33mpg highway AND is a balst to drive and doesnt wake the neighbors.

  • @grawfor What world do you live in? I've owned an '85 Mustang GT, an '87 LX 5.0 notch and a '91 LX 5.0 hatch. ALL were comfortably in the 14's with the fastest being the '87 LX which - in COMPLETELY STOCK form, with street tires - ran 14.18 @ 100 MPH.

  • @redd7188 In all honesty, my personal best was 14.23. My buddy ran the 14.18 and yes, he was a very skilled driver. Keep in mind that these were our best times. I ran 14.30 -14.50 for the majority of my runs as I experimented with different shift and launch points. Goodyear 'Gatorbacks' 225 60VR 15's! I heard, but never validated, that 'early production' '87 LX's (I had one of the very first!) came from the factory with more HP than later versions.

  • @superalex1988 All the engines I listed are n/a. If you want to go forced induction... Porsche 911 GT2 gets 523hp out of a 3.6. 145 hp per liter. SS has 710 ft lb torque. thats 131 ft lb tq per liter. GT2 has 132.8 ft lb per liter. Not to mention the 0-60 or Nurburgring lap time for the GT2. And the Super Snake has Kenny Bell supercharger. I might as well drag a T88 supra making 888 WHEEL hp into this. 888/3.0=296 WHEEL hp per liter. Over 300 hp/liter at the crank.

  • @superalex1988 Techart Turbo is 2.9 0-60, 997 whp....not impressive from a tt V10. I can get that from a 3.0 Supra, the 1/4 is impressive but again... street supras can run 9's all day. Not to mention their (Viper's) rep for breaking down. The GT2 RS does the ring in 7:18 (top 5). Faster than the ACR/ZR1/GT.

    I agree. but you realize that youre comparing Heavily modified supras to out of the box performance cars. i love Porsche. But youre comparing a car that was built to run on that track to cars built on the other side of the Atlantic... which by the way dont get terrible numbers at the Nurburgring...

    PS. i grew up around toyotas... including supras. and i know the punch they pack. but i prefer the sound of a supercharged V8

Like I said, nobody else gives a shit about 1/4 miles and top speed besides Americans. That's also why american cars have the quickest 1/4 mile times. If you really want to test a car, take it to Laguna Seca or the ring.

At one point I had mine running around 370HP and 340TQ but I blew the engine at those numbers. Horsepower sells cars Torque wins races.

    There seems to be some confusion on what I was talking about. The 5.4L 4v DOHC is not the engine in most Ford trucks. That engine is 5.4L 3v SOHC. The 4v DOHC is quad cammed and comes factory with around 100HP more than the 3v SOHC. Not to mention the fact that I swapped the 5.4L 4v out of a Lincon Navigator into my v6 Mustang. Took all summer to complete, and now it's snowing so she's in storage. Can I just say, I have respect for your trucks guys.

    Not when modded. Simply by running a custom air intake I gained 40hp. I have aftermarket cams, heads, and a fully built exhaust system no power adders and am running 525hp 540ft lbs. Same mods on the 3v and I'd be at around 350-420hp tops.

  • @larsen550 Not even close. I'm a HUGE MOPAR fan and a 440/6 wouldn't stand a chance against a 5.4L S/C. Look even a 426 Hemi would lose. Look at a Ford GT and Look at a Hemi Charger. Yeah different era, and different weights but look at numbers. 550HP and 500 ft lbs of trq for the 5.4L, the Hemi, probably close to 500 Hp and 500ft lbs of trq. The Ford GT would shit on any stock Hemi you threw at it.

  • @xLuckydemonx Really? I've seen a 440 personally smoke a 5.4L. Idk maybe it was just that rare instance but that's what I have seen. What era's are you talking? A Ford GT is this decade but a GT40 is the 60's... As for Hemi Charger, could be any era. Just confused a bit so specifying could help me understand more. I have always been a huge believe of the 440 6 pack but that's just me I guess. What are the advantages of the 5.4L over the 440?

  • @larsen550 the 440 is a beast but its N/A from the factory. The 5.4L on the other hand is S/C. So S/C = immediate power boost, usually int he 390-550HP range stock.

  • @EMHbelmonte you blew the engine because of your own ignorance, 4g63t bottom ends are good for over 1000hp with a good tune. your 5.4 4v probably also blows spark plugs out of the heads too. mike reichen owns an evo II with a 4g63t that makes over 1000whp and will do 237mph in a standing mile. 4g63t's are some of the best engine ever made whether you want to admit it or not

  • @EMHbelmonte were you crank or whp at 370? they can take a lot more than that, you probably just forgot to add something small, like stronger studs, or something large like a crap tune.

    either way, the mustang in that video looked kinda slow. expected more out of a H/C/I combo.
