I don't really want to sound racist as I'm Caucasian, but I've been in prison in the US. Those tiny little rivets wouldn't hold a 6'8" nigger for 2 seconds. They'd just reach down with their hands and pop those things open in a second. One time in supermax a black dude opened an electric cell door with a plastic spoon, (don't ask me how) and nearly killed the dude inside. It took like 20 minutes before the guard even noticed. I thought the dude was dead.

they are pressed on using a portable vice. all prisoners wear them going on their court days ( every 12 days at least 7 times) also there are heavier punishment ones weighing 7 kilos. i know i have been on remand there

In Bang Kwang Central Prison shackles are only worn by the prisoners on death row. And they aren't shiny at all, I was told. Its up to the prisoner to take care and keep them clean so one don't get wounds (which then get infected) constantly.

To the tool-discussion: If you had a tool, you could also open shackles which are locked by a padlock with a simple tool like a iron saw.

Your right about the shackles being dirty and stuff, but it isn't just Death Row prisoners that have to wear them.

Foreign prisoners must wear them for, I believe, 3-6 months depending on there sentance when they first arrive.
