The global climate models don't factor this nor do they factor many other variable such as the impact of galactic radiation and solar cycles and many other relevent information. Is it any wonder why the computer climate models are almost always wrong? It's because the results are predetermined and the 'science' is designed to match those results. Even if agriculture is able to meet the challenge of climate change and extreme heat, variable weather and volatile commodity prices will remain. Although that volatility can be disconcerting, it reflects a market working to allocate scarce commodities efficiently -- a job the market does reasonably well.
Not only that; if some weirdness were to wipe out all vegetation forever, I'd be willing to bet that modern technology would be up to the task of replacing it.

Global warming IS real! We are coming out of an ICE AGE! Does anyone really think that the polar caps melting would cause us to lose cities? Think about it, the caps are only a few feet above sealevel and only make up about 10% of the area of the oceans. Add on top of that that ice is water that has frozen and EXPANDED, and we realize that the sealevel might actually not move at all if the poles melted. But, they refreeze every winter, so the point is moot. There is always one frozen.

@ballrude Do you know that as water is heated it releases gases that it holds in solution at lower temperatures? That includes CO2. Basically, if the globe really is warming, so are the oceans. That would lead to the outgasing of CO2 from the world's waters, which cover 70% of the earth and are filled with CO2 producing organisms. This means that any conclusion you can draw about CO2 causing warming is inconclusive. You can stop polluting today though, just stop breathing. I'll be thankful.

Methane Releases from Arctic Shelf May Be Much Larger and Faster Than Anticipated

Research results, published in the March 5 edition of the journal Science, show that the permafrost under the East Siberian Arctic Shelf, long thought to be an impermeable barrier sealing in methane, is perforated and is starting to leak large amounts of methane into the atmosphere. Release of even a fraction of the methane stored in the shelf could trigger abrupt climate warming.
As Martin Heimann writes in Science: Wetlands and permafrost soils, including the sub-sea permafrost under the Arctic Ocean, contain at least twice the amount of carbon that is currently in the atmosphere as carbon dioxide. Release of a sizable fraction of this carbon as carbon dioxide and/or methane would lead to warmer atmospheric temperatures, causing yet more methane to be released. It would thus create a positive feedback loop that amplifies global warming.

You just referred me to a 1994 skeptic's argument that CFCs have nothing to do with the ozone layer. Since he wrote that, CFCs were banned and the ozone hole got smaller. In the Laboratory CFC's deplete ozone. Some CFC's have been recorded in the stratosphere where ozone is. However, the hole is shrinking? How is that possible if CFC's are there for 100 years?

Rising temps are from solar flares not CO2! correlations in CO2 levels and temperature have nothing to do with global warming. CO2 levels follow rising temps 800 years later from the ocean heating up and releasing more CO2. Gore didn't let you know that one!

This was a great video. I believe that we are probably causing global warming. Not because of Al Gore or the IPCC, but because of the results of the actual scientists studying this. The issue is certainly not settled though. We should encourage dissent like this. I can't believe it took the threat of a lawsuit to remove that guys name from the "consensus list".

Those petitions are complete BS. Look at the list of qualifications you need to be an "expert." A bachelors degree in just about anything related to science would qualify. A DVM would qualify, and a lot of them did sign, as well as a lot of engineers and biologists, and so on. Hell, I could sign up if I wanted to. I have a degree in physics, specializing is condensed matter. I could probably spin this is a way that makes me qualified to voice my opinion on the subject, but I assure you I am not.

questioning global warming is like questioning evolution. there are tons of evidence for both, and the only reason you would disagree is because of misinformation or external motives.
I don't think it matters whether or not global warming is caused by people, because regardless we should be trying to reduce our pollution to better the planet as a whole. I hope there's something we can do about it, because the coral reefs are dying, flowers are blooming months early, and armadillos are migrating north from Mexico. All of this is straining the ecosystem, and if there's even a chance to stop it we should do something. THAT shouldn't be argued against.

Is it any wonder why the computer climate models are almost always wrong? It's because the results are predetermined and the 'science' is designed to match those results. Global warming IS real! We are coming out of an ICE AGE! Does anyone really think that the polar caps melting would cause us to lose cities? Think about it, the caps are only a few feet above sealevel and only make up about 10% of the area of the oceans. Add on top of that that ice is water that has frozen and EXPANDED, and we realize that the sealevel might actually not move at all if the poles melted. But, they refreeze every winter, so the point is moot. There is always one frozen.

@ballrude Do you know that as water is heated it releases gases that it holds in solution at lower temperatures? That includes CO2. Basically, if the globe really is warming, so are the oceans. That would lead to the outgasing of CO2 from the world's waters, which cover 70% of the earth and are filled with CO2 producing organisms. This means that any conclusion you can draw about CO2 causing warming is inconclusive. You can stop polluting today though, just stop breathing. I'll be thankful.

Global Warming is real, there is a University degree on Climate Change, and my brother's friend studies it. The world has increased by 1.6 degrees and the point of no return is at 2 degrees. CO2 increases the temperature, and there is 390 PPM (increasing 3-4 each year) of CO2 right now (More then the 200 ppm it should be at), the red zone is at 450 ppm and unfortunately that's coming soon. How can u argue with that.

Actually that's relatively easy to explain, cold areas of Europe, Asia and North America used to have Megafauna too. They were hunted to extinction quite recently.
The reason Megafauna survives in, for example, Africa is because of the relative lack of people. That may change however as Africa becomes more developed.

You just referred me to a 1994 skeptic's argument that CFCs have nothing to do with the ozone layer. Since he wrote that, CFCs were banned and the ozone hole got smaller. What we were told... "CFC's will be in the atmosphere for 100 years and CREATED the hole and CAUSING it to expand"
In the Laboratory CFC's deplete ozone. Some CFC's have been recorded in the stratosphere where ozone is. However, the hole is shrinking? How is that possible if CFC's are there for 100 years?
Its all a hypothesis... the hole could have been there for millions of years... it could grow and shrink on other processes. Its only a no brainer if you over simplify complex things.

It's shrinking because CFCs were banned but it will take 50 years for the hole to close completely. Look I'm not an expert but sometimes 2 plus 2 equals 4 however much Fox News tries to spin it.

Green freaks try and make 2 + 2 = 5. If CFC's are in the atmosphere for 50 - 100 years... then the most CFC's would be there right now and the hole would be getting larger and larger; it would not be until 2045 to 2095 until it would start to shrink.

There is something called a thermometer that measures the world's temperature and it shows the earth has been getting hotter. This is slightly less complicated than carbon dating machines that prove that the earth is older than 3000 years (unlike what your bible tells you) so I think you should be able to do the experiment.

Rising temps are from solar flares not CO2! correlations in CO2 levels and temperature have nothing to do with global warming. CO2 levels follow rising temps 800 years later from the ocean heating up and releasing more CO2. Gore didn't let you know that one!

Melting ice caps are not science - it is just an observation.
IPCC models are science and they predicted some very high temps for 2008 - and they were hopelessly WRONG.
Temps have fallen for 8 years now while CO2 has continued to rise.
Oceans are not rising.
Ocean temps are not increasing.
We have too many polar bears.
Warming DRIVES CO2.
CO2 is about 0.03% of the atsmoshpere. Viva La Debate!

I've watched the "Inconvenient Truth" DVD twice and assert that Al Gore took extreme care to well document & explain every bit of evidence provided in the film, to affirm a fact.
CONCLUSION:

This was a great video. I believe that we are probably causing global warming. Not because of Al Gore or the IPCC, but because of the results of the actual scientists studying this. The issue is certainly not settled though. We should encourage dissent like this. I can't believe it took the threat of a lawsuit to remove that guys name from the "consensus list".

Those petitions are complete BS. Look at the list of qualifications you need to be an "expert." A bachelors degree in just about anything related to science would qualify. A DVM would qualify, and a lot of them did sign, as well as a lot of engineers and biologists, and so on. Hell, I could sign up if I wanted to. I have a degree in physics, specializing is condensed matter. I could probably spin this is a way that makes me qualified to voice my opinion on the subject, but I assure you I am not.

I find it funny that all the skeptics can do is try to poke holes in Global Warming predictions, and then make baseless claims (such as its cause by the sun, even when there hasn't been any increase in solar radiation since measurements begun). And there arguments are always changing. First it was: "its not happening" then it was: "it could be a good thing" and now its "we're not causing it and its only a natural cycle"

science isn't supposed to deal in "the debate is over" fact. while the panel assembled are scientists that respect science there are non-scientists in the heartland institute, aei and heritage foundation that play scientists for political stakes - much like the flip side of al gore. its important to remember science was labeled "pseudo" to bring down the "elite" in hitler's regime too. i think doing something is usually better than doing nothing. if global warming is a myth at least we tried.

I don't think it matters whether or not global warming is caused by people, because regardless we should be trying to reduce our pollution to better the planet as a whole. I hope there's something we can do about it, because the coral reefs are dying, flowers are blooming months early, and armadillos are migrating north from Mexico. All of this is straining the ecosystem, and if there's even a chance to stop it we should do something. THAT shouldn't be argued against.
