  • @horstphil2 Techno, Pure Detroit Techno

  • BELLZZ

  • @bobywaz

Beatmatching is the simplest part of DJing - Anyone can beatmatch after 2 - 3 hours practice. Cueing is much more important which is knowing when to start mixing the track. It's not as simple as fading one out and the other in - You can't just drop a track in anywhere. 99.9% of dance music follows a 4/4 rhythm. which means you can count the beats in multiples of 4 (so 4, 8, 12, 16) before the track loops... That is the simplest way of learning when to drop your next track.

  • Cannot stop rewinding to Jeff mixing the Bells with the Bells - most intense DJ, most intense Track, most intense style

  • @igosended Ok... i'm buying it then :) thx

  • @Schaezen

    that's fine

looking for octave one, they make good techno

  • @Schaezen Random Noise Generation - U-Move

  • him and laurent garnier should start their own country.

  • This is for those who just want to bear witness to how a DJ/Artist work.

No flashing special effects or booty shakers to distract the viewer.

Most videos have all that extra stuff to distract people from noticing that something ain't really as good as they think.

This look easy for Jeff compared to the stuff we heard back in Detroit live on WJLB when he was known as THE WIZARD! That would be something to see!

  • Imagine if you will...Beethoven or Mozart or Chopin or Mahler fading in through the mists of time and hearing and SEEING this ( most important that bit...SEEING the music ) they would undoughtably decreeing this to be the work of genius as the linear picture this music paints in the minds ear is, after all, what they where trying to do...Gerry...

  • All other Techno DJ.s can suck cock, Jeff Mills is the Man..

  • LOL

  • anyone know when this was recorded?

  • noticed how you dont see him doing anything but mixing? fuck all those gay ass handclappin djs

  • @nickholm I hear ya this guy was the real superstar DJ this is what DJing was supposed to be all about real mixing!! Tiesto is good but he's a gay ass handclapper compared to Jeff DETROIT Mills!!

  • @nickholm Yeah well he's kinda mixing threee tracks together very often... Most DJ's work with only 2 turntables, so once beatmatching is done, one has to wait for one of the track to start to fade to leave some place for the next one...

DeeJaying with 3 or more turntables is another realm, and Jeff masters it totally. But lots of DJ's are more conservative and still do a great job at it. DJing is not about talent, it's about knowing the best and most suited music for a specific set.

  • @bobywaz This is one of the most intelligent youtube comments i ever read. And i really mean what i'm saying, no sarcasm or something!

  • @nickholm "Forget" all those other DJ's, lol:).

  • @nickholm

Couldn a said it better, propa dj'ing skill

  • @nickholm I agree with you to some extent but when playing infront of a crowd I think it's better to have some hand clapping... Gives you a greater connection with the crowd : )

  • @Plamen2007 look something, if he is continuedly doing movements that are mart of djing process is because those movements are needed. like @nickholm said, those nowadays djs only handclapp, do u know why? because they prepare the set over and over again at home till it comes ok for the show and then, on the real live show they only have to make the transictions of the songs.

THIS GUY MAKES THE REAL DJing LIVE ON THE SHOW

  • @joaosilva008 Dude, have you seen Laidback Luke? He absolutely never prepares his sets prior to gigs and always thinks up and does everything on the fly... Yet when he plays infront of a crowd he still claps his hands and shows that he's having fun! : ) And he's one of the best DJ's I've ever seen. : )

  • @Plamen2007

It's ok man, you "won" the great youtube internet comment freestyle battle, go listen to that luke whatever...

  • @mehoprelivoda What battle you immature moron? Does every discussion in the comments have to be a flame-war? Isn't that what the comment feature on YouTube is for? Discussions?

It's amazing, isn't it? How a few people can express their thoughts and opinions without fighting. That's what I was doing there. Expressing my opinion : ) Some people may agree, some may disagree but that's up to them ; )

  • yah this is a fking detroit..ooo i love this guy how is mixing

  • i need a tracklist :D

  • @amerattila go to discogs and search for Jeff Mills and find the exhibitionsit dvd and there is a full trackkist there

  • @Gronat1 FUCK YES!Detroit in the house baby!!!

  • @Gronat1 cant help but do it!

  • You know it's crazy, but I really haven't noticed a difference between vinyl sets and laptop sets by people who know what they're doing.

  • @C6H12O6sugar

seeing a person carry in a box of vinyl and turntables, using their fingers and hands to beat match and see them handle these records is a lost art

  • @westcoasthaze Now that I can agree with. It's a different art, but a good set is a good set, no matter the medium.

  • @westcoasthaze Visit Berlin and you will see it!

  • chi mi sa dira la traccia del 9° minuto???

  • Negative. Those two would be Lenny Burden and Lawrence Burden of Octave One/Random Noise Generation. Check out the Loveparade YouTube page for one of their sets as well.

  • ..or better yet, go out and buy the shit the guy that runs this channel pirated.

  • @GBisquick

Do you happen to know the name of the somg they're playing? I thought it was the highlight of the video.

  • @michaellopez412: Lenny and Lawrence Burden AKA "Random Generation"

  • I never tire of this set, especially when the drop around 6 minutes comes.

I picture myself in an open air techno party on some sunny beach in the middle of the summer.

  • Go Jeff GOOOO!!!

  • volteretaaaa!!!!!!voltereta!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I used to listen to Mills at 10pm on FM 98WJLB Detroit. He'd do a half-hour or so mix of Rap and Techno, and he called himself the Wizard. To me, at the time, it was like entering a star-gate portal of music.

  • ..do you by any chance got some of that stuff recorded?

  • Haha, nice one. I remember those sets, but I had no idea it was Jeff.

  • techno is Jeff, thank you Detriot!

  • Jeff Mills = old school for the fool!!!!

  • JEFF MILLS is one of the Master ! DETROIT IS THE ROOTS OF TECHNO MUSIC !!!! LOVE DETROIT !!!

  • problem for me is this is techo from back in the early 94 - 99! !! SO ITS NOT NEW!

  • shouldnt be a prob that,, all the best stuff came from that era 91-94

  • it doesn't matter because back then techno was great. not too many new jacks on the scene like today.

  • este tio es un cierra bare, deja mucho q desear, hace 1 buena sesion de cada 10

  • it's techno of detroy MozzarM

  • Think your missing my point. I was replying to some guy who said tiesto played techno!

  • Mills is phenominal! When you see the Apple laptop you can tell it's software music BIG time; sounds OK, but all music made in the computer has absolutely NO dynamics. I can tell a tune made with softsynths from a million paces. Music made from within the computer is flat compared to analogue instruments.. I don't care what anybody says about this matter... Hardware annihilates software soundwise unless ur one of the extremely rare people that uses music software very well.

  • i agree. ALso people that use a laptop, i tend to hate their track selection. ANd when you can download music for free or for $1, i guess you arent that picky or dont listen that carefully. At least thjat is my experience with these Serato DJs and the like. I hear Serato djs all the time, and they typically bore me and have boring track selection. It is also easier to beat match on it. So they have no excuse for boring or bad sets

ANd i agree about analogue sound. it is much better.

  • @LiquidSmooth its not easier to beatmatch on serato, youre thinking of traktor maybe? if anything its harder to lock a mix on serato unless the signal is perfect as it doesnt stay perfectly in time. While i agree that it is sad that not many people play vinyl anymore,i no longer have to curse that i didnt bring a certain tune due to weight/bag size issues and also i dont get a bad back the morning after a gig any more.
