This film stayed with me well after it was over and I think besides the fact that it took place in Iran, more importantly it showed the weight of leadership and religion and war almost breaking the back of a family keeping them apart, keeping a young girl feeling like a foreigner in her own native country, depressed, dislocated. To film o wysokim artyzmie, spełniający bardzo przenikliwie i błyskotliwie moc dziennikarską sztuki. Taki czas pogardy, absurdu, groteski jest i nam Polakom nieobcy. Tylko my mieliśmy trochę więcej szczęścia w walce z totalitaryzmem. When I watched this trailer it was both scarey and liberating to me. Scarey cause I wonder why are the women behaving like that. Iran scares me because I don't have a good source that will tell me why the people are like they are there. I loath being judgmental to anyone and want to always know the meaning behind cultural behavior.
Why do they behave like that? Religion. They call it Islam, and when my European ancestors lived under a theocracy they called it Christianity, but it's the same difference. Iran's government is theocratic, just like Europe was under theocratic rule/oppression in the Dark and Medieval Ages. If you take a close look at what Christian conservative fundamentalists from America and Africa stand for you will see they would like women to behave in about the same fashion, just like in Biblical times.

I saw the movie...it was great, i hope that america isn't playing "world police" i hope that the irani's figure it out by themself's that they need to make their own revolution, they would have the force to change something the roots are given (i mean the communist/anarchist roots). Democracy is a political system that fails since it's own creation.
Audiences generally prefer movies over graphic novels, so the movie is useful, from Satrapi's point of view (the graphic novel wasn't only made for esthetic purposes). Yet personally I prefer the graphic novel too, personnal taste. Its awesome, and I recommend to anyone.
you can also check out marjane satrapi's english-translated graphic novels of the same name that the film is based on. they're so good that i read them straight from start to finish without interruption the first time.

This is a lovely animation. This film shows the concise history of Iran in the form of a fairly tale.
Frankly, Im ignorant about the modern history of Iran. But this film may be a good 'introduction' to the history of the country.

When I watched this trailer it was both scarey and liberating to me. Scarey cause I wonder why are the women behaving like that. Iran scares me because I don't have a good source that will tell me why the people are like they are there. Why do they behave like that? Religion. They call it Islam, and when my European ancestors lived under a theocracy they called it Christianity, but it's the same difference. Iran's government is theocratic, just like Europe was under theocratic rule/oppression in the Dark and Medieval Ages. If you take a close look at what Christian conservative fundamentalists from America and Africa stand for you will see they would like women to behave in about the same fashion, just like in Biblical times.

not only do i think this is DEFINITELY the best animated film of the MILLENIUM, let alone the year, but also has the most INCREDIBLE art direction i have ever seen ... and to anyone who is offended, you are idiots b/c this IS what is actually going on in Iran, although the only parts I didn't like were those blatantly communist, but not enough so that it made me love the film less
although my favorite part was DEFINITELY the Iron Maiden part, because I LOVE that band XD

I saw the movie...it was great, i hope that america isn't playing "world police" i hope that the irani's figure it out by themself's that they need to make their own revolution, they would have the force to change something the roots are given (i mean the communist/anarchist roots). Audiences generally prefer movies over graphic novels, so the movie is useful, from Satrapi's point of view (the graphic novel wasn't only made for esthetic purposes). Yet personally I prefer the graphic novel too, personnal taste. Its awesome, and I recommend to anyone.
