My grandmother who also died in 1918 in Akron was a friend of Mr. Williams, and so his middle name went to my dad, then me. She was introduced to Caruso once by Mr. Williams, and so quite naturally we are all Caruso fans as well.
So many comments of this song concern themselves with tears of joy...or tears of sadness. Certainly this contribution deserves praise. Great pictures of this gentlemen and the history of Evan opening The Chorus Hall in Boston. The gift of this post moves me emotionally
While inside a function room on break while singing in the Boston Pops Holiday Chorus at Symphony Hall in Boston in 2004, I noticed a plaque on the wall with information about the famous hall. It stated that Evan Williams had sung at the grand opening in 1900.
Gosh, Bob, you've done it again. One of the most beautiful songs of all time. And the photos are wonderful, setting the mood perfectly for this old gem. Thanks!
Very nice to be able to hear this old record. The first time I heard "A Perfect Day" was in the movie "Remember The Night" where Sterling Holloway as character Willie Simms sings A Perfect Day.
On second thought, there's a reason why EW's sales were up there with the others. All three are fine, but very different tenors. Have you heard much EW? If not and you're interested, I could list some suggestions.
Let's see, The Prodigal's Son - How Many Hired Servants (Victor 74127), Elijah - If With All Your Hearts (Victor 74088), Carmen - Flower Song (Victor 74122), A Spirit Flower (Victor 74331), Judas Maccabaeus. Sound an Alarm (Victor 74131) among many others. His interpretations of popular songs were his best sellers, but he performed a wide range of oratorio and opera as well. He was also well known for his performances of Handels Messiah and Id recommend his 3 recordings from that.

Read the English Wikipedia articles on "A Perfect Day" (song), Carrie Jacobs-Bond, and Evan Williams (tenor).

pax41, you made me happy beyond measure with this song and video. Evan Wiliams gets constantly underestimated. Thanks.

"Highest seller after Enrico Caruso and John McCormack" , I can hear why. Wonderful voice.

Although very good, he is not close to the other two in my opinion.
